Chapter 4 Broken System

The old man glanced at her small figure and shook his head inwardly, but he still didn't discourage her belief. "My son works in the armed forces department. Normally, it will be December."

"I heard the military district that recruits soldiers is different every time. I wonder which one it is this year? Is it the same as last year or the year before?"

The old man pondered for a few seconds and shook his head. "It's hard to say. The year before last it was the Jinling Military Region, last year it was the Kunlun Military Region, and I haven't heard anything about it this year."

"Thank you, sir. I'm relieved to know that conscription hasn't started yet this year. I'll go back and train hard and try to get in!"

Ning Xi got the information she wanted, said goodbye to the old man politely, and went to the supply and marketing cooperative according to her memory, bought an envelope for two cents, put the written letter of complaint in it, and filled in the address.

Then I took my household registration book to the post office and sent a registered letter.

Registered mail requires proof of identity and is a bit more expensive, costing eight cents, so it can be considered a real-name report.

Fortunately, the original owner had an uncle and his family who often helped her and would secretly give her some pocket money every few months.

Nowadays, you can’t buy things even if you have money, not to mention that the original owner was reluctant to spend it. As a result, he actually saved a huge sum of money - 39.47 yuan!

After sending the letter, Ning Xi came back into the alley and walked carefully, staying close to the wall, just like when she came out, trying not to be seen by outsiders.

After all, this is part of her performance tonight.

After returning home and putting the household registration book back in its place, Ning Xi slipped out of the house like a thief and headed towards her uncle's house. Next it was Lin Yongjun's turn.

Along the way, Ning Xi experienced the characteristics of this era firsthand.

There are no colorful neon lights. At first glance, there are very few buildings above two floors, and various eye-catching red slogans are printed on the outside of the houses.

"system?"

"receive!"

"I want to enter the space..."

"Ding!" A mechanical sound appeared in my mind.

Since they were in a book, she accepted the fact that there was a system.

System: "Hello host, I am running low on energy and will soon enter hibernation.

To introduce myself briefly, I am a trading system. When you come across something I can sell, I will passively activate my backup ability and officially awaken.

"What is something that can be sold?" Ning Xi asked in her mind, but after waiting for a few minutes, there was no response.

It won't crash immediately, right?

At least tell me what you can sell.

If it is an important cultural relic or antique, then this golden finger is equivalent to being useless.

As a Chinese who grew up under the five-star red flag, she would never sell these important cultural treasures for profit.

But how can a living person be suffocated to death by urine?

Even without the golden finger, she believed that she could survive and would not waste this opportunity to live again.

"Uncle, aunt, are you home?"

After getting off the bus, Ning Xi walked across the street and turned into the alley. Relying on her memory, she came to an ordinary bungalow with a wooden door ajar.

“Here I come!”

There was a noise in the yard, accompanied by hurried footsteps, and Liu Chunmei opened the door from the inside.

"Hey! Isn't this a stream? How did you find the time to come here? I thought you had forgotten how to get here!"

A sarcastic tone appeared on Liu Chunmei's pleasant round face, making her look a bit like a comedian.

"aunt......"

Ning Xi got into the role in a second, lowered her head, looked aggrieved, and called out to someone in a low voice.

"Why aren't you coming in? What are you standing there for? The door isn't locked. You don't have the hands to open it, right?" Liu Chunmei glared at the top of her niece's head and pulled her in.

Ning Xi followed her in obediently.

The yard is not big, and the wall is actually made of wooden boards. You can see other people's houses if you just stick your head out a little.

In the middle stood a large, dark wooden basin, with a few pieces of clothing beside it.

Liu Chunmei was on her day off today, so she cleaned the house and was washing clothes when she heard someone knocking on the door. Neighbors here usually just open the door and come in, so why would anyone knock on the door?

When I opened the door, I saw my niece who hadn’t been here for a long time!

"Have you eaten?" It's almost five o'clock, and it's almost time to eat.

"No..." Ning Xi had just answered one word when her stomach cooperated by making a loud "gurgling" sound. The frangipani she had eaten at noon had been digested long ago.

The sound was so loud that her face turned red. She had never experienced such an embarrassing moment before.

However, due to her long-term malnutrition, her face was sallow and even if she looked red, it was not noticeable.

Liu Chunmei's voice softened: "Would you like some of the leftover soup from lunch?"

Without waiting for Ning Xi's answer, she hurried into the kitchen again, "Wait outside and don't run around."

The powerful voice reached Ning Xi's ears clearly as she stood at the door.

Ning Xi took a broom from the door and started cleaning the yard. She couldn't just wait for food, right?

The yard was paved with dirt, and on the side there were several long wooden boxes surrounded by wooden boards, with some sparsely planted green onions in them.

There was a clanging sound in the kitchen.

After a while, Liu Chunmei came out and saw Ning Xi bending over and cleaning seriously with a broom. She looked at her intently for a few seconds, said nothing, plucked a few green onions and went back to the kitchen.

"Wash your hands and come over to eat!" Liu Chunmei placed a large bowl on the dining table in the living room.

It is called a living room, but it is actually the room of Liu Chunmei and Ning Zhisong. The innermost part is the kang, and the empty space is just enough to fit an old table and a few stools.

Normally, the stools should be tucked under the table.
