Chapter 62: Deterring Domestic Violence

Ge Peng didn't expect that a young girl would dare to yell at him. He didn't react for a while. Seeing a few aunts in the yard next to him sticking their heads out to look over here, he held back his temper.

He looked at Zhong Suxin with gloomy eyes and squeezed out a few words from between his teeth: "Don't mind your own business, you little bitch. Why don't you get off the bed and come home with me? I'll settle the score with you when I get back."

Although Ge Peng has a bad temper and is well-known in the area for beating his wife, he is not completely stupid. He only does it when he is locked up at home.

If a woman scolds her daughter-in-law in her own house, even if the neighbors go to complain and the people from the street and the Women's Federation come, it is her own family affair and they have no right to interfere.

The nature of the action is different if it happens in front of outsiders.

However, he also knew that Zhong Suxin did not dare to leave this home. Without a job and with two children to support, it would be a dead end.

Ge Peng pulled Zhong Suxin over with one hand, and with his other hand, he grabbed the cloth bag that Xi had hung on the handlebars and pulled it down.

"Someone is robbing people in the street in broad daylight!" Ning Xi clenched her fists and used the protruding bones between her wrist and palm to hit the inside of Ge Peng's arm hard.

“Ouch!”

The wrist bone hit Ge Peng's Neiguan acupoint hard, and the pain made him quickly retract his hand.

After Ning Xi succeeded, she quickly pushed the cart back, shouting as she walked: "This guy wanted to steal my things. Wait for the police to come, ladies and aunts, please testify for me. I didn't expect the atmosphere in this alley to be so bad, tsk tsk~"

A few middle-aged women were watching the show inside and didn't want to get involved. It wasn't that they were not enthusiastic, but the Ge Peng family was too difficult to deal with and no one wanted to get involved.

But when they heard Ning Xi say that the atmosphere in their alley was bad, they immediately exploded and left the yard in anger.

"How can you say that, little comrade? Why is the atmosphere in our alley so bad? Let me tell you, many of our district's model workers are from here!"

An old lady rushed to Ning Xi fiercely, her eyes as big as cow's eyes, and it looked like she was going to attack her if Ning Xi didn't explain herself.

Ning Xi looked puzzled. "Auntie, what's wrong with what I said? You seem like a reasonable person. He just stole my food, and everyone saw it. If that's not robbery, what is it?"

"How can I be considered robbing if I take my family's food?" Ge Peng's arm still hurt. This damn girl was not very tall, so it hurt quite a bit when she hit me.

"You have a pair of useless eyes that you suggest donating to others. Can't you see the big name on this cloth bag? I think you are evil-minded. You want to use violence to rob us because we are weak women."

Ning Xi pointed at the bag, on which were written three big words "Lin Yongjun" clearly.

"What weak woman? She and I are from the same family!"

Ge Peng didn't grasp the point at all. He pulled Zhong Suxin over and didn't care that she was screaming in pain.

"Oh, even if you are her father you can't steal my things~" Ning Xi pretended not to know his identity. Anyway, Ge Peng looked to be in his forties, and Zhong Suxin looked about the same age as her.

There is nothing wrong with saying that they are father and daughter.

"Oh, Uncle Zhong, she fainted at the grain station today, and the police just happened to come and investigate. They asked if she was beaten. They might even come to investigate further. You're her father, so you must know what happened, right?"

"Public security? Why are the public security here?" Ge Peng chose to ignore her address, with a hint of viciousness in his eyes.

Ning Xi said calmly, "How would I know? It seems something happened at the grain station, and the police came to arrest someone. They happened to see Comrade Zhong fainted, and asked her if she was beaten by bad guys, and then they would come back to investigate.

The Chairman said that women hold up half the sky. If anyone continues to oppress women as they did in feudal times, the public security comrades will definitely not let him off.”

She didn't say that because she was afraid that Ge Peng would blame Zhong Suxin for not bringing the food back and beat her again.

With such a pretext, Ge Peng would at least be wary, after all, today's public security comrades are not only good at mediation.

Moreover, a guilty person like Ge Peng would never dare to confirm whether the police had questioned Zhong Suxin about this matter.

If you want to find out, just ask the police whether they have been to the grain station.

Ning Xi looked at the onlookers curiously: "Auntie, you live here, so you must know what's going on, right? Comrade Zhong said he's fine, but the police don't seem to believe him..."

The aunt who was furious just now avoided his gaze and waved her hands: "How would I know? She said she's fine, so she must be fine."

After saying that, he walked into the yard without looking back, as if he would be arrested by the police if he was a second slower.

The aunt breathed a sigh of relief after closing the door. The Ge Peng family was too mean. Someone had spoken up for Zhong Suxin before, and he turned around and reported that family for secretly raising chickens at home.

They said their family was preparing for speculation.

These days, every family is tightening their belts to make ends meet. There are so many children and not enough food to eat. Which family doesn't resort to some secret tricks?

Let’s not talk about anything else, just the black market, who hasn’t bought food at a high price?

Ning Xi saw that Ge Peng's face changed after hearing about the police, and knew that he must have some concerns, so she felt a little relieved.

"Then I'll go back first. By the way, Uncle Zhong, your family's grain is still at the grain station. You need to take your household registration book to collect it. You can also ask the people at the grain station about the public security."

Ge Peng's face was gloomy. He watched Ning Xi walk away without saying a word, then he pulled Zhong Suxin back home and closed the wooden door with a bang.

The old lady next door was so frightened by the sound that her heart skipped a beat and she almost fainted. She patted her chest repeatedly and muttered quietly, "What a sin!"

Zhong Suxin felt pain in her wound and subconsciously pushed Ge Peng away. After she came to her senses, she shuddered.

Ge Peng stared blankly at his hand that was shaken away, anger rising in his heart. He clenched his fist and wanted to punch Zhong Suxin.

"How dare you! If you hit me again, I'll tell the police when they come that you and your mother are simply the remnants of the feudal landlord class, treating your daughter-in-law like a servant at home."

Comrade Xiao Ning has already found an excuse for her. If she doesn't make good use of it, what's the difference between her and waste?

"Just wait for me!" Ge Peng finally didn't do it. He went to the inner room with a fierce face to get the household registration book, and walked out of the door with gritted teeth.

"Comrade, did the police come to the grain station today?" Ge Peng suspected that the two men had colluded to cheat him, so he asked this question when he took the grain.

"Yeah, what's the matter?" The staff looked at him suspiciously. Could this man be related to this matter?

"Oh, it's okay. I'm just curious. Well, I'll be leaving now. The family is still waiting for food to be cooked."

Ge Peng felt uneasy when he saw his eyes. He took the food, put it on his shoulders and left in a hurry.

He had to go home and keep a close eye on Zhong Suxin and not let her talk nonsense.

Ning Xi was having dinner when she returned home. The old lady put the meal on the kang table and asked Lin Yongjun and He Hongjuan to eat while leaning against the wall.

However, Lin Yongjun's bowl was full and he was eating a fried egg, while He Hongjuan only had a bowl of vegetable soup and a gray multi-grain steamed bun.
