Chapter 122: Su Ying is Pregnant
The Xu family's dinner table was unusually lively that evening.
Grandma's braised pork glistened with oil, the stir-fried vegetables were crisp and refreshing, and there was also the corn and pork rib soup that Ningtang had been talking about all the way, all steaming hot in the center of the table.
Ning Tang was sipping her soup when she suddenly heard familiar footsteps outside the courtyard gate.
Accompanied by Su Ying's gentle voice: "Grandpa and Grandma, we're back!"
Everyone looked up and saw Xu Qiaolan helping Su Ying walk in.
Su Ying was wearing a light gray dress, but her face was a little pale, and her brows were slightly furrowed, as if she was not feeling well.
"Yingying's back! Sit down and rest for a while." Grandma quickly got up and pulled Su Ying's hand to a chair. "Were you tired on the way? You look so pale."
"It's alright, Grandma. She probably got an upset stomach while she was at the performing arts troupe."
"By the way, Tangtang is back today. The things I bought for you a while ago are in the house. I'll give them to you after dinner."
Su Ying forced a smile, and just as she sat down and picked up her chopsticks, her stomach suddenly churned.
She suddenly covered her mouth, got up and ran to the trash can in the corner of the yard, where she gagged while holding onto the rim.
"Huh? What's wrong?" Grandma was startled and quickly went over to pat her back. "Did you eat something bad for lunch?"
Xu Qiaolan panicked as well, handing over a tissue with a worried expression: "Yingying, how are you? Should we go to the hospital?"
Grandpa frowned as well: "Did you catch a chill from the wind on the way? You were fine this afternoon, why did you suddenly vomit?"
The family surrounded Su Ying, all asking her questions and assuming she had eaten something bad or caught a cold.
Ning Tang put down her chopsticks, walked to Su Ying's side, and waited for her dry heaving to subside before speaking softly.
"Sister-in-law, give me your hand, I'll take your pulse."
Su Ying paused for a moment, then subconsciously reached out her hand.
Xu Qiaolan looked at Ning Tang with a puzzled expression: "Sister-in-law, how can you diagnose this by taking a pulse?"
"Brother, have you forgotten that I was the one who diagnosed your illness?" Ning Tang placed his fingertips on Su Ying's wrist, focusing intently on feeling her pulse.
A moment later, her eyes slowly brightened, and a smile appeared on her lips.
"Tangtang, how are you? Is it a stomach problem?" Grandma asked anxiously.
Ning Tang raised her head, looking at the expectant gazes of everyone, her voice full of surprise.
"It's not a stomach problem, sister-in-law is... pregnant!"
"What?!"
These words were like a thunderclap, exploding around the dining table.
Su Ying's eyes widened in disbelief as she touched her lower abdomen: "I...I'm pregnant?"
Xu Qiaolan froze on the spot, and it took her a long time to react.
He grabbed Ning Tang's arm, his voice trembling, "Sister-in-law, are you telling the truth? Yingying is really pregnant? You're not mistaken, are you?"
“No mistake.” Ning Tang nodded with a smile. “Sister-in-law’s pulse is very steady, it’s definitely a pregnancy pulse. She’s probably a little over a month along. Dry heaving in early pregnancy is a normal reaction, don’t worry.”
Grandma was the first to react, and she hugged Su Ying tightly, her eyes reddening.
"That's wonderful! That's wonderful! Our Xu family finally has a fourth generation! Yingying, you are truly a hero of our Xu family!"
Grandpa grinned from ear to ear, nodding repeatedly, "Good! Good! That's perfect! I'll go call my old comrades right now and let them share in the joy!"
Xu Qiaolan was still standing there, staring at Su Ying's belly, as if she hadn't recovered from the surprise.
It wasn't until Su Ying gently pushed him that he suddenly hugged her tightly, his voice choked with emotion.
"Yingying, we have a baby! We finally have a baby!"
He had felt indebted to Su Ying because the poisoning had affected his fertility. Now that he learned that Su Ying was pregnant, his long-suppressed guilt and anticipation burst forth, and he almost burst into tears.
Su Ying leaned against him, her eyes also reddening, and said with a smile, "Yes, we have a baby."
The family was immersed in joy when Grandma suddenly remembered something, took Ning Tang's hand, patted the back of her hand, and said...
"Tangtang, this is all thanks to you! If it weren't for the Chinese medicine you prescribed for Qiaolan, which helped to improve his health, how could Yingying have gotten pregnant so quickly? You are the lucky star of our Xu family!"
"Yes! It's all thanks to you, sister-in-law!" Xu Qiaolan quickly added. "I was worried that the traditional Chinese medicine wouldn't work, but I didn't expect such good news so quickly. Thank you, sister-in-law!"
Su Ying looked at Ning Tang gratefully: "Tangtang, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I don't know how long I would have had to wait to have a baby."
Ning Tang felt a little embarrassed by what was said and shook her head with a smile.
"Please don't say that, everyone. I only prescribed some medicine to help regulate the body. It's mainly because my brother and sister-in-law are in good health and take their medicine on time. Besides, it's all about fate. When it's time for the baby to come, it will come naturally."
"No matter what, you're a great contributor!" Grandma pulled Ning Tang and put a large piece of braised pork into her bowl. "Eat up, eat more. You're pregnant now, so you need to nourish yourself and give our Xu family another healthy baby boy!"
Ning Tang smiled and agreed, feeling quite excited inside.
Looking at the happy family in front of her, she thought of the tragedy of the Xu family in her previous life.
Looking at my current happiness, I feel even more that being able to protect my family in this new life is the luckiest thing.
After dinner, Xu Qiaolan couldn't wait to take Su Ying to the hospital for a check-up to confirm her pregnancy.
Grandma specifically instructed, "Take it easy, don't let Yingying get tired. Come back early after the check-up, I'll make you some pigeon soup to help you recover."
"Okay, Grandma," Xu Qiaolan replied, carefully helping Su Ying walk outside.
He looked so nervous, as if he were holding a landmine.
Ning Tang leaned against Xu Qiaofeng's chest, watching their backs as they walked away, and said with a smile, "Big brother is completely different from before."
“He’s been longing for this child for so long.” Xu Qiaofeng hugged her, his voice gentle. “Before, he felt guilty because of his health issues. Now that his wish has finally come true, he’s naturally happy.”
Grandpa sat on the sofa, drinking tea, with a smile on his face.
"This is all thanks to Tangtang. Ever since Tangtang married into our Xu family, good things have been happening one after another. First, Qiaofeng was commended in the army, and now Yingying is pregnant. Tangtang is truly our family's lucky star!"
Grandma chimed in, "Yes! From now on, we should always listen to Tangtang's opinion on anything that comes up in the family. Tangtang is not only kind-hearted, but she also knows medicine. With her around, our family feels at ease."
Ning Tang blushed slightly at what was said and quickly changed the subject.
"Grandpa and Grandma, it's getting late, you should get some rest too. Qiaofeng and I are going back to our rooms as well."
Back in the room, Xu Qiaofeng massaged Ning Tang's legs and said softly, "Your elder brother and sister-in-law had good news today, aren't you happy too?"
"Yes, I'm so happy." Ning Tang nodded and touched her lower abdomen. "Looking at my sister-in-law, I'm even more looking forward to our baby."
"Yes, our baby will be healthy too." Xu Qiaofeng held her hand and placed it in his palm. "In the future, our family will definitely become happier and happier."
