Chapter 104: Intentionally Trying to Make Pei Yanning Look Bad
Pei Yanning's shout was both high-pitched and thin.
The sound echoed in the quiet corridor, startling even the staff on duty at the guesthouse downstairs.
But it's late now, and everyone's asleep.
Even if she speaks loudly, it's hard to hear her clearly through the door and walls.
Pei Yanning pressed herself tightly against the wall and then realized that it was just that the corridor window was not closed properly.
But once fear takes hold, it can't be suppressed.
She stared intently at the dark figure at the back of the corridor, and the more she looked, the more it resembled a human figure.
It was actually just a pile of mops in the corner.
Pei Yanning was so frightened by herself that she was stunned. Cold sweat streamed down her back, and her clothes were almost soaked.
She raised her hand and pounded on the door, her palm turning red: "Ning Tang, stop pretending to be asleep! Open the door!"
"I know you're in there. If you don't open the door, believe me, I'll go and complain to your dean!"
There was still no sound from inside the house.
Pei Yanning completely broke down.
She began to wonder if Ning Tang had really fallen asleep.
Pei Yanning thought about what she had discussed with Zhou Hairong that night, and then she remembered the thick blanket that Ning Tang had placed on top of her during the day.
I was both angry and scared, and tears of grievance fell down my face.
I should have known better than to pretend to be a ghost and scare people.
Now look what's happened; she's trapped outside, without even her keys, and everyone's asleep. She has no one to ask for help.
Pei Yanning wiped away her tears, found a random spot, and sat down against the wall.
There's no other way but to make do for one night.
The next morning.
Ning Tang woke up feeling refreshed.
She tidied herself up, took her toothbrush cup, and prepared to wash up. As soon as she opened the door, she saw Pei Yanning looking haggard.
Ning Tang was taken aback: "Dr. Pei, why don't you go inside to sleep?"
"It seems like it rained in the middle of the night last night. Weren't you cold standing alone at the door?"
Pei Yanning looked up abruptly upon hearing the sound, her eyes bloodshot and her hair disheveled and plastered to her face, clearly indicating she had been freezing all night.
She propped herself up with her numb legs, her voice hoarse: "I called you so many times, but you didn't open the door!"
"Ning Tang, how dare you pretend to be innocent here and ask me why I don't go back to sleep!"
But when he thought about how he had acted like a ghost last night, he didn't dare to say anything too outrageous.
Ning Tang shook her head in feigned surprise and pointed to her ear.
"last night?"
"I was sleeping too soundly last night and didn't hear a thing."
Ning Tang shook the toothbrush cup in her hand, her tone natural and without any guilt.
She even asked with concern, "Why didn't you ask the staff at the guesthouse for help? Isn't there always someone on duty in the downstairs office?"
These words sounded incredibly harsh to Pei Yanning.
She was so scared last night that she didn't even remember there were staff on duty.
Besides, it would be too embarrassing for others to know that I forgot my keys and spent the whole night waiting outside.
Pei Yanning was so angry she felt like she had a heart attack, but Ning Tang's concerned little face was right in front of her.
All I could do was retort harshly, "What's it to you?"
Ning Tang didn't press further, stepped aside, and smiled considerately:
"Come inside and warm up. It was windy last night, and you don't look well."
As if remembering something, Ning Tang smiled and said, "After you finish washing up, remember to go downstairs and wait. We're going to the hospital for a meeting in ten minutes."
After saying that, Ning Tang turned and left.
Pei Yanning was stunned.
Ten minutes?
She stayed out all night and is now a mess, looking like a beggar. She can't even wash her hair in ten minutes. How could she possibly catch up?
Ning Tang, that despicable woman!
She had thought the woman was genuinely trying to be helpful, but now it seemed she just wanted to see her make a fool of herself.
Pei Yanning stormed into the room, cursing and swearing.
He buried his head in his duffel bag, searching for clothes, and pulled out clean ones to put on.
In her frantic efforts, she even got her hair stuck in a button, causing her to wince in pain.
After finally getting ready, Pei Yanning stopped looking at herself in the mirror before even leaving the house.
His eyes were dark circles, his hair was tangled, and there was drool at the corner of his mouth from sleeping.
It's now solidified on my chin and looks disgusting.
He looked utterly pathetic.
Pei Yanning thought of Ning Tang's glamorous appearance just now, and she didn't want to be inferior to her.
I grabbed a comb haphazardly and started pulling at my hair, hurting my scalp, but I could only manage to gather it back.
When she rushed out the door with her bag, there were no other colleagues left in the guesthouse.
Pei Yanning was startled, thinking she was going to be late, and quickly ran downstairs.
I bumped into a hard shoulder as soon as I reached the top of the stairs.
Looking up, I was surprised to see Zhou Hairong.
"What happened to you?" Zhou Hairong frowned, his tone full of disdain. "Oh right, didn't we agree last night that you would take care of Ning Tang..."
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Pei Yanning's angry glare.
"Don't mention last night to me!"
"If you hadn't insisted on giving me that terrible idea, would I have gotten myself into this mess?"
After saying that, Pei Yanning shoved Zhou Hairong, who was in her way, aside with her shoulder and ran away in a hurry.
Zhou Hairong was caught off guard and nearly tumbled down the stairs when he was bumped into.
Her face instantly darkened, and a hint of impatience flashed in her eyes.
What an idiot.
He's too impulsive and rash; he'll definitely be no match for Ning Tang.
The original plan was perfect: to have Pei Yanning encounter a ghost and scare Ning Tang, ideally causing her to miscarry. But unexpectedly, this woman was so useless, and instead ended up making herself look miserable.
Zhou Hairong pondered to himself that Pei Yanning was unreliable, and it seemed he would have to take matters into his own hands.
*
The entrance to the guesthouse.
When Pei Yanning rushed downstairs, she was so anxious that she even tripped and fell hard.
Unfortunately, she was tackled by Dr. Wang, who was talking to his students with his back to her.
Dr. Wang is only fifty years old this year. After falling like that, he lay on the ground for a long time without getting up.
His reading glasses flew off and rolled on the ground.
The people around were startled and quickly gathered around to help the person up.
"Dean Wang, how are you?"
"That was quite a blow. Did you suffer internal injuries?"
"Who was so blind as to knock down our dean? If something happens, can you take responsibility?"
Pei Yanning's knees ached from the fall, and her palms and elbows were rubbed raw and bleeding.
She was about to get up when she realized she had bumped into the highly respected Dean Wang, and her face turned pale instantly.
She hurriedly and clumsily picked up her reading glasses, instinctively wiping them, her voice weak:
"Dean Wang, I'm so sorry..."
"I didn't mean to, I was just in a hurry to get to the meeting."
Dean Wang was helped to sit up, his face contorted in pain from his back.
His tone was unpleasant: "What's wrong with you, young comrade?"
"Luckily, you bumped into me today. What if you had bumped into a patient at the hospital?"
"I remember you're a doctor at Shancheng Hospital. Why did your hospital director send you? Don't they have anyone else?"
It was just a simple, ordinary question.
What Pei Yanning heard was doubt and disdain.
She was already feeling very aggrieved because of what happened last night.
Now, being publicly reprimanded by Dean Wang, he felt so embarrassed that he couldn't lift his head.
Just then, Ning Tang and Wang Yingying came out of the guesthouse carrying breakfast.
Seeing this crowd, I quickly squeezed in.
Ning Tang could tell from the way Dean Wang was sitting that he had twisted his back.
I quickly walked to Dean Wang's side and carefully helped him up by the arm.
"Dean Wang, is your lower back sore and stiff right now, and does it hurt a lot even with the slightest movement?"
"Yes, when I was bumped just now, it felt like my waist was twisted."
Ning Tang immediately said, "Please don't use force. I have learned basic massage techniques that can help relieve your pain. We can have a more detailed examination at the hospital later."
After saying that, she asked Wang Yingying and several men to help support Dean Wang.
She rubbed her palms together to warm them, then gently pressed them onto the acupoints on Dean Wang's side waist, kneading them slowly and gently.
Everyone watched quietly from the sidelines.
Although most of them practice traditional Chinese medicine, they do not perform massage.
Seeing Ning Tang, this genius, displaying her skills, everyone wanted to secretly learn a thing or two from her.
Not long after.
Dean Wang felt much better in his back; it didn't hurt as much as before.
He looked at Ning Tang in surprise: "Wow, Comrade Ning, your technique really works. It feels much better than before."
"By the way, your technique is quite unique. Did you learn it from someone?"
Ning Tang paused.
Actually, she found all of these in the medical books in her spatial dimension.
If I were to say it out loud, it would definitely cause panic.
Ning Tang smiled and withdrew her hand, changing the subject: "I learned it from my neighbor when I was a child."
"Don't mention it, Dean. It's just a minor matter. The important thing is that you need to go to the hospital for an X-ray to see if any bones are injured."
Dean Wang's face was practically beaming with joy.
He finally understood why Lao Gou always took Ning Tang with him wherever he went; she was a treasure after all.
If someone like Ning Tang were to come to their hospital someday, he would definitely cherish her.
No, Ning Tang is a genius that comes along only once in a century.
How could someone so easily possess the same talent as her?
Dean Wang's face suddenly fell, and he sighed heavily in his heart.
Such a promising talent, and Old Gou actually snatched him away.
He truly lives up to his name.
Old Gou, what a dog.
Pei Yanning, who was standing to the side, looked even more disgusted as she watched this scene, as if she had eaten something nauseating.
Ning Tang, that little bitch, is stealing the spotlight in front of everyone again, while she herself becomes the one who made a mistake!
Damn God, can't you be a little kinder to her?
Pei Yanning grew angrier the more she thought about it, and the admiring glances from others only fueled her anger; she was practically driven mad with jealousy.
Wang Yingying, standing beside her, noticed her expression and couldn't help but laugh:
"Dr. Pei, even if you're in a hurry to start the meeting, you can't be so reckless."
"Dean Wang is so old, what if something really happens to him?"
"You've really caught my eye, haven't you?"
Pei Yanning instinctively retorted, jealousy clouding her judgment, and she retorted without hesitation:
"What are you so smug about, Ning Tang's lackey? If she hadn't refused to open the door last night, would I have had to spend the whole night outside?"
"Ning Tang made me late, it's all her fault! What right do you have to blame me?"
The moment the words left his mouth, the surrounding air fell silent.
Especially Dean Wang.
He wasn't initially angry about Pei Yanning's clumsy behavior, but after hearing these words, he really got angry.
As a doctor, if your first reaction after something happens is to shirk responsibility, how can patients trust you?
"Dr. Pei, everyone knows you forgot your keys and were stuck outside. You were late and you're trying to shift the blame onto others?"
"What, does everyone think they're your father or mother, and they have to tell you what to do?"
Her colleagues around her also frowned, their eyes full of disdain as they looked at Pei Yanning.
It was clearly her own recklessness that led to this, but now she's turning around and blaming me.
Fortunately, they weren't in the same room as her. Anyone who gets involved with someone with such a terrible character is doomed.
Pulled into this by Pei Yanning, Ning Tang didn't rush to speak, but simply looked at her calmly.
A knowing glint flashed in his eyes.
Pei Yanning felt uneasy under that gaze, and remembering her attempt to scare people by pretending to be a ghost last night, she dared not meet his eyes and felt inexplicably guilty.
"I called her to open the door last night, but she didn't. Otherwise, why would I have been freezing outside all night? If this wasn't intentional, what else could it be?"
"Oh?" Ning Tang finally spoke, "I went to bed early last night and didn't hear any knocking."
"I thought Dr. Pei would take his keys with him when he went out, since it was so late and few people would go out."
"Besides, there are staff on duty downstairs. If Dr. Pei can't get in, he can ask them for help. Don't you know that?"
Ning Tang asked with a smile and concern.
Her beautiful smile showed no sign of pretense, and everyone praised her for being beautiful inside and out.
Pei Yanning's face turned pale instantly.
She felt that Ning Tang was being sarcastic and unfriendly.
"Can't I just forget about it? Does everyone have to keep thinking about it?"
Seeing that she was angry, Ning Tang apologized repeatedly, "Dr. Pei, please don't be angry. I was wrong about this."
"What are you doing outside so late at night instead of sleeping?"
Pei Yanning glared back: "What's it to you?"
"I was too talkative," Ning Tang apologized again, looking scared. "Next time you go out at night, you must take your keys with you. I go to bed early and can't hear anything."
Pei Yanning felt that Ning Tang's words were becoming increasingly strange.
I couldn't figure out what was wrong for a while.
It wasn't until she saw the people around her pointing and whispering that she suddenly realized what was happening.
That bitch Ning Tang is deliberately slandering her reputation!
She's spreading rumors that she goes out on dates with men; she's a shameless woman!
Pei Yanning pointed at Ning Tang and cursed, "Stop spouting nonsense! When did I go out on a date? You're deliberately saying this to ruin my reputation!"
Originally, everyone was just whispering among themselves, but after she shouted that, all eyes turned to her.
Ning Tang was just kindly reminding her to bring her keys, so why did Pei Yan Ning suddenly bring up the date?
Ning Tang seemed startled by her reaction.
She took several steps back, her face full of innocence: "Dr. Pei, why would you think that?"
"I was just casually mentioning that you take your keys when you go out at night, I didn't mean anything by it."
"After all, it was so late last night... I was just afraid you would misunderstand, so I quickly explained that I was a heavy sleeper."
Ning Tang is not a kind person.
She had long seen through Pei Yanning's dishonest intentions, and since Pei Yanning was targeting her, she naturally had to retaliate.
She said those things on purpose, just to make Pei Yanning look bad.
Pei Yanning panicked and tried to explain that she went out to scare Ning Tang after encountering a ghost.
But the words just wouldn't come out.
If she were to speak out, it would confirm that she harbored malicious intentions, making the situation even more difficult to resolve.
Just when the atmosphere was tense, Zhou Hairong suddenly appeared!
