Chapter 150: Deserved Punishment
The first to get out of the car were two officers in military uniforms.
He stood tall and straight, with a serious expression.
He walked straight toward the dean's office.
Many doctors and nurses passing by in the corridor turned their heads in surprise, wondering why soldiers had suddenly come to their hospital.
But they only muttered a few words in hushed tones, and no one dared to go up and ask.
Ning Tang stood in the dean's office, taking in the scene outside.
Dean Gou hung up the phone, turned to look at Ning Tang, his face full of seriousness: "Dr. Ning, what evidence do you have for what you're saying?"
“Lu Jiaxiang and Zhang Yanfei were talking privately. I just overheard them talking about it, but they probably haven’t had time to put it into practice yet.”
Ning Tang calmly recounted the private deal between the two of them.
"Zhang Yanfei wanted to use the name of the joint medical mission to win over Lu Jiaxiang in order to profit from the hospital and team's resources, and even wanted to embezzle medical equipment."
"Lu Jiaxiang agreed to these things because his daughter Lu Niannian and Zhang Yanfei's wife had a fight and pushed each other, almost causing the child to miscarry."
“Zhang Yanfei used this as a threat. If Lu Jiaxiang did not agree to put him in the medical team, he would report him to the military region and make it difficult for Lu Jiaxiang to stay in his position as the director of surgery.”
Dean Gou nodded. He knew Ning Tang's personality; she never said anything she wasn't sure of.
When Ning Tang first entered the hospital, she relied on her superb traditional Chinese medicine skills to establish herself among a group of veteran doctors. She was never the kind of person who would spread rumors or make things up out of thin air.
Knock knock knock.
A knock came at the door.
"Go in," Dean Gou said in a deep voice.
The door was pushed open, and two military officers walked in.
Behind him followed an officer with stars on his shoulder insignia, his face resolute and his eyes sharp.
His gaze swept over the two people in the office, finally settling on Ning Tang. He nodded slightly and asked, "You must be Comrade Ning Tang?"
Ning Tang nodded: "It's me."
"I am Li Wei from the Military Region's Discipline Inspection Department," the officer introduced himself in a loud voice.
"We came here specifically to investigate after receiving Dean Gou's report. Please tell us more about the matter concerning Zhang Yanfei and Lu Jiaxiang."
Ning Tang didn't hide anything and told her everything that happened in the ward, as well as the rumors she had heard about Zhang Yanfei abusing his position to bully others.
She didn't embellish the story; she simply stated the facts objectively.
But the calmer the narration, the more unsettling it becomes.
Li Wei looked up at Ning Tang, his gaze holding a hint of scrutiny, but also a touch of approval: "Do you have any witnesses to what you've said?"
"Lu Jiaxiang's wife, Zhou Hairong, and his daughter, Lu Niannian, were also in the ward," Ning Tang said calmly. "They were all present and heard Zhang Yanfei blackmailing Lu Jiaxiang with Lu Niannian's matter, as well as their private deal."
Dean Gou added from the side, "Lu Jiaxiang has indeed been behaving strangely lately. A lot of precision instruments are missing from the department. He only said that they were lent to the joint medical task force, but now it seems that they have all ended up in Zhang Yanfei's pocket."
Li Wei closed his notebook, his face so dark it could drip water.
"The joint medical task force of the military region is here to support people in remote areas. It is a glorious mission. I never expected that someone would dare to use this name to line their own pockets. It is simply outrageous!"
"Dean Gou, Dr. Ning, you are both very conscientious comrades. I will praise you in front of the leaders when I get back today!"
Ning Tang chose to report it not for the sake of praise or dissent.
On the one hand, she was really annoyed by Lu Jiaxiang and Zhang Yanfei.
On the other hand, it's also unacceptable that these two people, for their own benefit, chose to harm those who truly need help.
The group chatted for a long time inside the house.
It wasn't until an hour later that Li Wei and his men emerged from the dean's office.
They called over a nurse and asked her to lead the way.
——
On the other side.
Zhang Yanfei was unaware that Ning Tang had reported him and that he was about to face dire consequences.
He was sitting in the hospital room.
Ning Xin, who had been full of energy just moments before, lay on the bed, clutching her stomach. Her face was deathly pale, even more so than the wall behind her, due to the pain.
Seeing Ning Xin's cry of pain, Zhang Yanfei couldn't help but frown impatiently and said coldly:
"As I just said, I can go by myself. The doctor said that the baby in your belly is not safe for the time being, and you need to rest in bed to save the baby."
"Now look what's happened! My son is uncomfortable in your belly again. If anything happens to my son, I'll definitely not let you off the hook."
Ning was sweating profusely from the pain.
Hearing this, he trembled slightly.
She snorted coldly, stubbornly retorting, "You won't let me go?"
"You dared to stare at Ning Tang with lustful eyes even when I went there. If I don't go, who knows what you're up to!"
Zhang Yanfei was speechless with anger and turned pale. He raised his hand to hit Ning Xin.
He raised his hand halfway and then stopped abruptly, ultimately mindful of the child in her womb, and could only reluctantly withdraw his hand.
He cursed fiercely, "Stop your nonsense! I get angry just looking at Ning Tang's cold demeanor. What's wrong with staring at her? What are you going to do to her?"
Ning curled up in pain, cold sweat dripping down her temples, but she still wouldn't let it go.
"Don't think I don't know what dirty thoughts you have in your heart! Ning Tang is beautiful and has excellent medical skills. You've been attracted to her for a long time, haven't you? If she weren't pregnant, wouldn't you have pounced on her already?"
"fart!"
Zhang Yanfei flew into a rage and kicked the edge of the bed, making the bed creak.
"Am I that kind of person? I just want to force her to prescribe a pregnancy-preserving medicine for you, and by the way, control her so that she will be obedient and work for me in the future!"
His words were half true and half false.
Ning Tang's medical skills are among the best in the city. If he could get her to submit, he would have an extra layer of protection, whether in the military or in civilian life.
Moreover, Ning Tang's aloof and stunning appearance did indeed make him feel a little itchy.
Unfortunately, she was pregnant and a tough nut to crack, so it was really difficult to get to her.
Ning Xin naturally sensed the perfunctory tone in his words, and felt both angry and resentful.
Unfortunately, the cramps in her stomach were getting worse and worse, so bad that she barely had the strength to curse.
She bit her lip hard, tears mixed with sweat streaming down her face, her voice trembling.
"I don't care what you're up to, you have to get Ning Tang to prescribe a medicine for me! My baby can't be harmed, this is my only hope!"
Zhang Yanfei paced back and forth irritably, then raised her hand and slapped her face hard.
Just as he was about to say something, the door to the ward was suddenly pushed open from the outside.
Li Wei walked in with two staff members, followed by Dean Gou.
As soon as the group entered, their sharp gazes fell on Zhang Yanfei.
The air instantly became heavy.
Zhang Yanfei's heart skipped a beat.
A sense of foreboding suddenly surged up.
But being a soldier by training, he forced himself to stand up, frowned, and asked, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
Li Wei ignored his question, simply placed the notebook in his hand on the table next to him, and said in a deep voice.
"Comrade Zhang Yanfei, we are from the Military Region Discipline Inspection Department. We now have evidence that you colluded with hospital employee Lu Jiaxiang under the guise of the joint medical task force to embezzle public medical resources for personal gain. Please come with us to accept the organization's investigation."
"investigation?"
Zhang Yanfei's face turned deathly pale instantly, her eyes filled with disbelief.
"Are you mistaken? When did I ever embezzle resources for personal gain? This is slander!"
“Slander?” Li Wei sneered, then turned to Dean Gou. “Dean Gou, please produce the materials that Lu Jiaxiang provided.”
Dean Gou nodded, took out a stack of papers from his briefcase, and handed them to Zhang Yanfei.
"Zhang Yanfei, Lu Jiaxiang has confessed everything. He not only admitted to blackmailing him, but also confessed to making him embezzle precision medical equipment from the department and resell it. This is all evidence. What else do you have to say?"
Zhang Yanfei looked at the stack of papers and felt a sudden darkness before her eyes, her hands and feet turning ice cold.
He never expected that Lu Jiaxiang, that spineless coward, would confess so quickly, without even the slightest resistance.
His gaze suddenly turned to the doorway, as if he had suddenly remembered something, and he stared intently at Ning Tang.
She was standing at the door, her posture upright, her eyebrows and eyes cold and indifferent, her gaze devoid of any emotion.
"It's you!"
Zhang Yanfei's voice suddenly rose, carrying a hint of hysteria.
"You're the one who snitched, aren't you? Ning Tang, you vicious woman! I knew it was you!"
Ning Tang glanced at him indifferently, her tone calm and unwavering: "If you're upright, you have nothing to fear. If you're not upright yourself, don't blame others for exposing you."
"you……"
Zhang Yanfei was so angry that he trembled all over. He raised his hand and was about to rush towards Ning Tang, but the two officers next to him quickly grabbed his arms.
The cold handcuffs instantly fastened to my wrists.
The icy touch sent a shiver down Zhang Yanfei's spine, and his rationality returned instantly.
He stared at the handcuffs on his wrists, a look of despair on his face, muttering to himself, "Impossible... This can't be... I did it flawlessly..."
"Flawless?" Li Wei scoffed.
"Do you think the military region is blind? The joint medical mission is for the benefit of the people, not a tool for you to line your own pockets! Take it away!"
The two officers immediately escorted Zhang Yanfei outside.
Zhang Yanfei struggled to turn around and look at Ning Xin lying on the bed, her eyes filled with resentment and venom.
"Ning Xin, you good-for-nothing! You can't even handle a woman, and you've brought me to this state!"
Ning Xin was terrified by this sudden turn of events.
Upon hearing Zhang Yanfei's curses again, he felt a rush of blood to his head, his vision went black, and he fainted from the pain.
Upon seeing this, Dean Gou immediately instructed the nurse beside him, "Quick! Get her to the emergency room! Notify the obstetrics and gynecology department to come over!"
The nurses didn't dare to delay and immediately pushed the bed, rushing to the emergency room.
The ward fell silent instantly, leaving only Dean Gou and Ning Tang.
Looking at the ward that had just been noisy, Dean Gou sighed and said, "Dr. Ning, go and keep an eye on things outside the operating room later. Ning Xin is pregnant after all, and her family isn't around. If anything happens, you and I will both be in trouble."
Ning Tang knew that Dean Gou had an important meeting later.
Since she had nothing to do that afternoon, she nodded in agreement.
Not long after, a nurse rushed over and said that Ning Xin had been taken into the emergency room and the obstetricians and gynecologists were busy inside.
Ning Tang responded and got up to walk towards the operating room.
The red light outside the operating room was blindingly bright, so Ning Tang found a chair and sat down.
About half an hour later, the door to the emergency room was pushed open, and a doctor in a white coat came out, took off his mask, and looked somewhat tired.
Ning Tang stood up and went to greet him: "Doctor, how is the situation inside?"
The doctor recognized Ning Tang, knowing she was a renowned traditional Chinese medicine doctor at the hospital, and quickly said, "Dr. Ning, the patient is out of danger for now, but the condition of the fetus is not optimistic. There are signs of threatened miscarriage, and she needs to stay in the hospital for observation for a period of time."
Ning Tang nodded, her heart unmoved.
Ning Xin's current predicament is entirely of her own making; she has no one to blame but herself.
"Thank you for your trouble," Ning Tang said calmly.
The doctor smiled and said, "It's just my job. By the way, the patient has been insisting on seeing you since she woke up, saying that she won't cooperate with the treatment if you don't come."
Ning Tang's brows furrowed almost imperceptibly, and a hint of coldness flashed in her eyes.
She knew that Ning Xin wouldn't let her off easily.
"I understand," Ning Tang said in a deep voice. "I'll go see her once she's been wheeled back to her ward."
The doctor responded and turned to go back into the emergency room.
Ning Tang sat back down in her chair.
She was pondering how to resolve this matter completely, so that Ningxin wouldn't bother her with the child again in the future.
A little while later, Ning Xin was wheeled out of the emergency room.
His face was still frighteningly pale, his lips were cracked, but his eyes revealed a kind of madness.
Her eyes lit up the moment she saw Ning Tang. She struggled to sit up, but the nurse held her down.
"Ning Tang! Come here!" Ning Xin's voice was hoarse, carrying an unquestionable command.
People around her turned their heads to look, but Ning Tang seemed not to notice. She slowly walked to the bedside and looked down at her.
"What do you want to do?" Ning Tang's voice was indifferent, revealing no emotion.
Ning Xin stared intently at her, her eyes filled with hatred and resentment: "The baby in my belly... is it going to die?"
"The doctor said there were signs of threatened miscarriage and I need to stay in the hospital for observation," Ning Tang said truthfully.
Ningxin's tears welled up instantly, not from fear, but from anger.
She suddenly raised her hand, trying to grab Ning Tang's arm, but Ning Tang easily dodged it.
"It's all your fault! Ning Tang, it's all your fault!"
Ning Xin screamed hysterically, "If you hadn't refused to prescribe any medicine to help me have a healthy pregnancy, if you hadn't reported Zhang Yanfei, how could I have ended up like this? How could I have lost my baby?"
Ning Tang looked at her coldly, as if she were watching a clown.
“Ning Xin, get this straight. It was your own fault for ignoring the doctor’s orders and throwing a tantrum in the ward, which caused the miscarriage to be affected. It was because you colluded with Zhang Yanfei for personal gain that you ended up like this. All of this is your own fault, and has nothing to do with me.”
"You're talking nonsense!" Ning Xin screamed in exasperation.
"If you hadn't been so ungrateful and refused to help me, how would I have ended up like this? My mother raised you for ten years, is this how you repay her?"
