There's a ghost

There's a ghost

Xu Hongqi felt better when he heard her cheerful voice. "What is a little white horse?"

The weather in October was neither too cold nor too hot. Xu Nian sat in the back seat with her eyes slightly closed. She wanted to imitate the heroines in movies and TV dramas and smell the fresh air, but when she took a deep breath, her nose was covered with dirt, which made her look silly. It turned out that not everyone can be the heroine.

"Haven't you read Journey to the West? Tang Sanzang's mount is the White Dragon Horse, the incarnation of Little White Dragon. Now that you've bought a car, it's like owning Little White Horse."

Xu Nian was actually quite curious about how much money Xu Hongqi had earned this year, so he poked his waist with his finger and asked, "Brother Hongqi, how much money have you saved?"

Xu Hongqi stiffened up at her sharp thrust, and then felt a little hot. He rode his bike with one hand, rubbed his waist with his free hand, and said in a vague voice, "It's enough to last for a few years."

Xu Nian had never told anyone about the money he had saved, so seeing his vague answer, he stopped asking...

Sometimes Xu Nian felt that the Xu family was also very magical. When Xu Hongqi rode the bike back home, no one asked him why he suddenly bought a bike, where the ticket came from, or how much money he spent. They were just busy and happy, picking a lot of vegetables from the farmyard, and celebrating happily with six dishes and a soup.

She saw that the unfamiliarity she had when she first came was gone in Xu Hongqi's eyes, and there was less cunning in them. There was more sincerity and familiarity, and he smiled more often than last year. This was what happiness was all about.

In order to celebrate National Day, the Third Brigade invited a film projectionist to show movies in the evening. Since it was free, everyone in the family, young and old, brought stools and went to the Third Brigade to watch the movies.

It was a rare occasion when it was so lively, so of course Xu Nian had to go. The adults all walked, but the three children at home were very curious about Xu Hongqi's bicycle. They twisted their bodies like a pretzel and acted coquettishly around Xu Nian.

The children are naive and smart. They know to ask Uncle Hongqi for help instead of their aunt. After all, their uncle rarely disagrees with what their aunt says.

As the aunt-in-law, Xu Nian received a lot of flattery from the three little ones, so naturally she agreed to their requests. When she went to Xu Hongqi and his son, she acted coquettishly and gave them even more advanced flattery, and finally got a cold response from them.

Xu Nian told her family to go and grab a seat first, and she and her nephews took Xu Hongqi's car. After everyone in the family had left and it was their turn to go, they realized that it was quite difficult to fit five people in one car, but... it was not impossible.

Xu Hongqi had been tortured to the point of losing his temper. Fortunately, it was already dark, otherwise people would definitely make fun of them when they saw five people carrying a heavy load in the car. There was one person sitting on the bar, two on the back seat, and the smallest child was in the basket. Fortunately, the three little ones were well-behaved, otherwise the car would have overturned in minutes.

Xu Nian was also in pain. She took up half of the back seat and had a little baby in her arms. The journey was bumpy and difficult. When Xu Hongqi said they had reached their destination, Xu Nian felt that she could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

There are so few entertainment activities nowadays that it is no exaggeration to say that there are huge crowds of people coming to watch a movie for free.

Xu Nian was afraid that he couldn't take care of the three children, so he needed to send them to their parents. Xu Hongqi couldn't go with them. They were both worried that the bike would be lost if no one was watching it. So it seemed that they shouldn't have ridden the bike here today.

She took her nephews and nieces and squeezed through the crowd to find her parents. After going around in circles for who knows how many times, she finally saw them. She put the children in front of them, took a breath and said something, then squeezed out again to find Xu Hongqi.

When she arrived at Xu Hongqi's place, the time was just right. The movie screen had just lit up and the equipment made a "ding ding ding" sound. The originally noisy crowd suddenly became quiet, and everyone stared at the screen with wide eyes.

Xu Hongqi stood behind the car and saw that Xu Nian's hair seemed to have static electricity and was frizzy, so he helped her to comb it. Xu Nian put her hands on her hips and pouted, saying, "If I had known it would be so troublesome, I wouldn't have come."

He thought it was funny, "I don't know how that person got so excited when he heard there was a free movie."

Xu Nian pretended not to hear. She turned around and looked at the movie screen, but... she couldn't see anything.

There were so many people that her neck almost broke when she looked up, and she could only see a little bit. Xu Hongqi was paying attention to her all the time and whispered something in her ear.

Xu Nian hesitated and said, "Isn't this bad?"

"What's wrong with that? If we go to the back, we won't be able to see anyone else." Xu Hongqi said.

She was excited after hearing that. After all, since she was already here, she might as well take a look at it. She hadn't seen the newly released "Wheels Rolling" yet, and she came just because it was a new movie.

Xu Hongqi pushed the cart first, and Xu Nian followed him out of the crowd. They stopped at the last row. The place where they were now was quiet and empty.

Xu Hongqi stopped the car and originally wanted to let Xu Nian get in directly, but then he saw something and said to her, "You stay here first, I'll go over there for a while."

Xu Nian agreed with an "hmm", and left the crowd. She looked at the screen from the outside, which had a wider viewing angle than before. Now that the film had just been connected, she was fascinated by it.

Xu Hongqi left quickly. He went to the shade of the trees and sold homemade roasted peanuts and sunflower seeds. He was about to leave when a man stopped him and asked, "Hey, do you want some rice balls?"

The rice balls are made by crushing rice into white and plump rice flowers, then refining white sugar into a paste, and then mixing the two into small balls. You can feel how delicious they are without even eating them. Thinking that Xu Nian would be happy seeing them, I took five.

When he returned, Xu Nian didn't react at all. She was really engrossed in reading. Xu Hongqi found it funny. If she had this much enthusiasm in studying, she would be able to learn anything well and they wouldn't have to quarrel every time they studied.

He didn't disturb her but took a rice ball and started eating it. The crisp sound and the aroma of rice when he bit it finally made Xu Nian's gaze shift from the movie screen to the side.

"Ah, when did you come?"

Xu Hongqi swallowed his food, handed her the snack he was holding, and said, "I'm afraid you don't even know that someone bought you."

Xu Nian curled his lips, "No way." He looked at the snacks one by one and curled the corners of his mouth, "Go buy these, Brother Hongqi, you are so kind, they are all my favorites."

"If you like it, eat more." Xu Hongqi's voice contained a smile.

Xu Nian peeled the burnt peanuts and melon seeds, collected them and handed them to Xu Hongqi. His hands kept moving while his eyes were fixed on the screen, seemingly a subconscious action.

Reflected in the darkness, Xu Hongqi didn't look at the screen but looked at Xu Nian. She was very well-behaved and cute at this time, and his heart started pounding as he looked at her for a long time.

He shifted his gaze in a disguised manner, looking at the car seat and thinking that there was a piece of clothing he seemed to have worn for a long time and would not wear it in the future. When the time comes, he can pack it up and tie it in the back seat, so that the person sitting next to him will be more comfortable.

When he was lost in thought, the wind blew, the leaves rustled, and Xu Nian trembled.

"Are you cold?" Xu Hongqi asked.

Xu Nian felt a little bit and nodded.

The movie lasted about an hour. "You're wearing thin clothes, why don't you go back? I'll take you to the cinema when we get back to the county."

"New movies in the cinema still cost two cents." Xu Nian felt a little cheated.

Xu Hongqi increasingly felt that he could be less generous with himself, but he didn't want Xu Nian to have too many concerns about money. However, he couldn't say it directly, "I'm cold and want to go home."

After being interrupted by Xu Hongqi, Xu Nian stopped clinging to the movie. After thinking about it, he realized that it wasn't worth it to catch a cold. "Then I'll go tell my mom and we'll go."

Everyone was so engrossed in watching that if anyone pushed forward they would surely be scorned. Xu Hongqi said, "Stay put, I'll go over and talk."

Xu Nian was amused by the dense crowd. When Xu Hongqi came back from the crowd, his clothes were also askew. Xu Nian found it funny. "You were just scolding me. Now you know how crowded it is."

He breathed a sigh of relief, having been holding it in all the way. Just now, someone had farted while eating leeks, and it was very smelly. Xu Hongqi didn't want to eat leeks again in the short term, so he pulled Xu Nian away from the crowd.

On their way home, they had to pass through a small forest, which was also the characteristic of the Third Brigade. There were not many other things there, but there were a lot of trees. Another important reason why the brigade could afford to hire a film projectionist was that they had brick-making technology, and it was heard that their economic strength was comparable to that of the factories in the county.

But for Xu Nian, who was not familiar with this place, she was still a little scared. At night, the leaves swayed in the wind, rustling in the wind, which was very creepy. The moonlight cast shadows, and Xu Nian always felt that someone was chasing her from behind. She originally held the hand on the back seat, but silently placed it on Xu Hongqi's waist.

Xu Hongqi pedaled hard but didn't say anything.

Just when Xu Nian felt a little relieved, she heard faint voices again. She didn't dare to look back, but there was no one else in the forest except the two of them, so where did the voices come from?

The more she thought about it, the clearer the voice seemed. This time, she no longer held onto Xu Hongqi, but simply hugged his waist tightly, burying her face in his back, and praying that they could get home quickly.

If Xu Nian just hugged Xu Hongqi, he felt that although he felt a little uncomfortable, he could still bear it. But now Xu Nian directly pressed his face against his back, and the airflow between his breathing made him feel hot and sweaty.

He pedaled harder and faster, but Xu Nian's breathing seemed to be more rapid. He didn't know what tripped the bike and the bike couldn't stop. The two of them jumped to the ground before the bike fell.

Xu Nian felt so sad that she could not even cry. She really thought something was up. After she had stood firm, she quickly went to Xu Hongqi and held his arm tightly.

Xu Hongqi's heart was on fire because of her. He closed his eyes tightly to keep calm. He couldn't help but lick his dry lips. He lowered his head and said to Xu Nian tentatively: "Niannian, you are still young. Our most important task now is to study hard. The future... we will talk about it later."

Xu Nian was trembling and didn't hear what he said at all. She leaned over to his ear and said, "Brother Hongqi, did you hear that sound?"

"Is there a ghost?"

"Um?"

“Ah?”

"What?"

Xu Nian thought he didn't hear clearly, so he said it again, "Brother Hongqi, is there a ghost? I keep hearing a man and a woman talking, and I'm scared to death."

"You hugged me so tightly just now because you were scared?"
