Chapter 11: My fiancé called me? Guess!

Chapter 11: My fiancé called me? Guess!

After the cock crowed three times, a voice came from the yard:

“Ah—ah—”

The sound trembled and floated away, startling the sparrows on the jujube tree.

Xiao An rushed out from the inner room and covered her mouth, "Sister, you are killing yourself, Xiao Bai is still sleeping!"

Just as he finished speaking, there was a "clang" sound behind him, and Lin Xiaobai kicked open the door, with messy long hair and two small flames burning in his eyes.

"Lin! Shu! Hua!" She gritted her teeth, "What the hell are you making so many noises so early in the morning? If you want to make a noise, I'll hang you at the entrance of the village and use you as a megaphone!"

Shuhua shrank his neck and twisted the corner of his clothes with his fingers: "I, I just want to practice..." His voice became smaller and smaller, "Everyone says that I talk like a consumptive..."

"Bullshit!" Lin Xiaobai pulled her over and poked his finger at her chest. "You were born with a sweet voice! Why are you singing Qinqiang? You should just sing a folk song!"

Shuhua was stunned. "But they all say that I look strong and powerful, but I insist on learning to speak softly and pretend to be someone else, imitating others..."

Lin Xiaoan, who was squeezing toothpaste for Xiaobai in the corner of the yard, laughed out loud: "Sister, you just look a little more heroic, you're not that bad."

"You're not as smart as Xiao Anzi," Xiao Bai patted Lin Shuhua on the shoulder, "Stand up your chest, raise your chin, look straight ahead, and say 'None of your business'!"

"Ah?!" Lin Shuhua was stunned. He looked at Xiaobai and then at Xiaoan at a loss.

"Come here, I'll act with you!" Lin Xiaoan was the first one to understand Xiaobai's thoughts. He handed Xiaobai a toothbrush with toothpaste squeezed on it and a new cup, and moved in front of the calligraphy and painting.

"Lin Shuhua, you look like a man, but your voice is as soft as a peach. You are pretending!" Lin Xiaoan acted very well, making people want to slap him.

Lin Shuhua took a deep breath, straightened his chest, raised his head, stared at Lin Xiaoan, and uttered four words clearly: "None of your business!"

After saying this, his whole body felt like a deflated balloon, no longer bulging, and he felt as comfortable as he could be.

"Xiaobai, what did I say?" Shuhua looked at Xiaobai with bright eyes.

Xiaobai gargled and nodded in appreciation.

"Isn't it great? Xiaobai is really awesome. He brought me back to life with just four words!"

The aroma of scallion pancakes wafted from the kitchen. Lin Guohua poked his head out and said, "What's so great? It's time to eat! All you can eat is greasy scallion pancakes this morning!"

He had a rag apron tied around his waist - it was made by patching together old clothes, and he was dancing the spatula in his hand vigorously, as if he was commanding thousands of troops.

"I'll be there soon. Sister, go set the table first. We'll eat in the yard. Xiaobai likes open spaces." Lin Xiaoan held a new washbasin and a new towel and helped his sister wash her face.

"Okay. Oh, by the way, I'll go get some vanishing cream for my sister. After she washes her face, Xiao An, you can put it on her. Girls in the city love to use this."

Calligraphy and painting helped him untie the knot in his heart, and he became full of new energy. His voice was as clear, melodious and pleasant as a yellow oriole.

The morning light fills the courtyard, and four shadows are busy starting a new day.

Lin Xiaobai sat on a rattan chair, munching on a scallion egg pancake made by Lin Guohua while rubbing his sore lower back, his brows furrowed so tightly that they could kill a fly.

"This broken kang is as hard as a cement slab in the end times!" She poked the cake in the bowl with gritted teeth, "I have to make a mattress sooner or later, otherwise I can't live like this."

"Mattress?" Lin Xiaoan asked vaguely, holding half a cake in his mouth, "What kind of mattress is it?"

"Soft, thick, the kind you can sink into when you lie down on it." Lin Xiaobai gestured, his eyes suddenly lit up, "I need to find a skilled carpenter to make a spring bed frame, and then fill it with cotton..."

"Our eldest brother can do it!" Lin Xiaoan slapped the table and pointed to the corner excitedly, "Look at that wardrobe and that rattan chair, they were all made by my eldest brother!"

Lin Guohua was just carrying a pot of porridge in. Hearing this, his ears turned red: "Don't talk nonsense, I'm just messing around..."

"Really?" Lin Xiaobai raised his eyebrows and looked him up and down, "Then make me a mattress that can..."

Before she could finish her words, the gate was suddenly pushed open with a bang.

"Lin Shuhua! Lin Xiaobai!"

The sharp voice was like an awl, piercing the eardrums. A girl in a blue shirt and two pigtails stood at the door with her hands on her hips, her face smeared with white powder, as if she had been painted with lime.

"Ma Dongxue - the clerk of the village committee, my sister's 'good friend'" Lin Xiaoan explained to Xiaobai in a low voice, emphasizing the word "good friend" intentionally.

"Oh~" Xiaobai held the scallion pancake in his mouth, glanced at the uninvited guest, and then lowered his eyes.

"Hey, are you eating?" Ma Dongxue's eyes rolled around the dining table, and when she saw the golden scallion pancakes, her throat moved noticeably.

She raised her chin and shouted in a voice that could be heard by half the village: "Lin Xiaobai! Your fiancé called! The village committee asked you to answer the phone within ten minutes!"

The dinner table suddenly became quiet.

The chopsticks in Lin Shuhua's hand fell on the table with a "click", Lin Xiaoan spat out a mouthful of porridge, and Lin Guohua suddenly raised his head and looked at Xiaobai with complicated eyes.

"Fiancé?" Lin Xiaobai wiped his mouth slowly, smiling, "Which one?"

Ma Dongxue's voice rose again: "Which one? How many do you have?"

"So there are a few if you say so. You're shouting so loudly, aren't you just trying to promote me?" Xiaobai stared at her with a smile on his face.

Ma Dongxue pulled her lips awkwardly, and this time she spoke in a lower voice, but if one listened carefully, people outside the yard could still hear her clearly.

"He didn't say his name, but his voice sounded... um... similar to Uncle Lin Shan~"

Does Tang Jingmo's voice sound like an old man?

Lin Xiaobai recalled and found nothing.

"Do you remember? Who is it? What's your last name? What does your family do? How old are you? When did you get engaged..."

Ma Dongxue asked a series of questions very smoothly, acting like a warm-hearted elder sister Ma.

"Ma Dongxue, you might as well change your name to Ma Dahai," Lin Xiaoan said sarcastically.

"Why?" Ma Dongxue didn't think twice. She was complacently thinking that Xiao An's attitude towards her had improved a lot today. It seemed that it was right to come to his house to report the news.

"Why? Because you're nosy and live by the sea, so you eat too much salt!"

Ma Dongxue's face turned red, she stamped her feet and complained to Lin Shuhua: "Shuhua, look at your brother, he's talking about me again, I mean so well but he treats me like a donkey!"

I thought that Lin Shuhua would support her unconditionally as before, because I was her only friend.

But - tonight is different from the past.

"Dongxue, don't make fun of my sister. Xiaobai is only 17 years old, still a child. My brother and I won't let her get married so early. Even if Xiaoan doesn't say anything about you, I have to say something about you. You better watch your mouth!"

Lin Xiaobai smiled. Everyone performed well and everything was OK.

She stood up slowly and took the largest scallion pancake: "Let's go, I'm going to meet my fiancé~"
