Chapter 121 Belated Wedding
Before the Chinese New Year, Longshan Village welcomed the heaviest snow in ten years.
As dusk deepened, the aroma of rice wafted from the Lin family's old house.
Lin Guohua was busy in the kitchen, the aroma of fried bacon with garlic sprouts filled the whole yard as the spatula flew.
Song Wan and Gu Zhongzhang were arguing over whether the Chinese character "Fu" was correct for Chinese New Year.
"It's not even the New Year yet and you two are already arguing. You really have so much free time."
"Xiaobai, you don't understand. These two are clearly flirting!" Gu Mingyue teased her brother and good friend.
Xiaobai laughed loudly, grabbed a snowball and threw it at Song Wan, which caused Song Wan to counterattack. She then pulled Gu Zhongzhang off the field and the three of them started a snowball fight.
How could Tang Jingmo let them fight him two against one, so he quickly made a snowball and went to save his wife.
Suddenly, snowflakes flew in the yard. Laughter sounded outside the door, drifted to Longshen Mountain, and attracted waves of wolf howls.
"It's Xiaoguaiguai! I haven't seen that guy for a long time. I wonder how he is doing now." Song Wan recognized the voice.
"Don't worry, Guaiguai is still the wolf king. I'll take you to the mountain to see it later." Xiaobai looked towards the back of the mountain.
"Forget it, forget it. It's so big, I dare not get close to it." Song Wan waved her hands repeatedly. She was not the protagonist, so it was better for her to stay away from the "divine beast".
Tired of playing, Xiaobai and Tang Jingmo sat side by side on the doorstep, looking at everything that was familiar yet unfamiliar, feeling quite a lot of emotion in their hearts.
"Actually..." Xiaobai suddenly spoke,
"Professor Zhou wrote to me last week saying that Jianmu's roots have extended deep into the Kunlun Earth Vein.
He said...theoretically, if there is enough energy...it can cure our materialization phenomenon."
Tang Jingmo held her hand: "No hurry." He looked at the people laughing and playing in the yard, "This time, let's take it slow."
Lin Guohua's resonant voice came from the kitchen: "It's time to eat! Xiao Tang, come and help serve the dishes!"
When Tang Jingmo stood up, Xiaobai tugged at the corner of his clothes.
He turned around and saw his girl looking up with the lights of thousands of homes in her eyes: "Welcome home."
Outside the courtyard, someone had set off fireworks in advance. The bright light streaked across the night sky, illuminating the laughing family eating.
"When is your wedding going to be?"
Lin Guohua asked everyone's question: Whose wedding invitations were sent out twice, but were postponed both times due to urgent tasks?
If you don’t know, you might think they are staging some kind of “wedding guerrilla warfare” and canceling their wedding on an auspicious day.
"Three times the limit, there will be no problem this time!" Song Wan patted Xiaobai's shoulder vigorously, full of encouragement.
"Do you really think you are some lucky fish who can get things done as you say?" Gu Zhongzhang started to contradict her again.
Everyone is used to it.
Xiaobai was chewing on sweet and sour pork ribs when he turned around and saw a room full of his friends and relatives staring at him eagerly.
The eldest brother Lin Guohua, the younger sister Lin Shuhua, Song Wan whose face says "If you keep delaying, I'll get married for you", and Gu Zhongzhang who has his ears perked up next to him.
Xiao Bai simply gave a straightforward answer: "It's better to do it today than to wait for a day. Otherwise, why not take advantage of the New Year when everyone is in Longshan Village and do it right away!"
After saying that, she looked at Tang Jingmo with some guilt. After all, marriage is not a one-person thing.
As a result, Tang Jingmo smiled slightly and calmly replied: "Okay, that's what I meant."
He paused, his eyes softened, "Longshan Village is where you were born and raised. It means a lot that we meet again here. It's perfect to hold the wedding here."
Lin Shuhua's eyes lit up, but then he frowned again: "However, Xiaobai, Chief Gu and Professor Su..."
She had seen the grand ceremony of the elders in the city, and if she felt that the wedding in the village was too simple...
Xiao Bai waved his hands, with an expression of "I know my dad" on his face: "If they have time to come, of course they are welcome to come. If they don't have time, the worst that can happen is that we can go back to Sijiu City and hold another one!
Anyway, Father Gu and Uncle Su are not the kind of people who care about rituals, so as long as I am happy, that’s all that matters.”
"You are too optimistic." Gu Zhongzhang suddenly interrupted, looking gloating.
"Even if my uncle has no problem with it, my parents and grandma will never agree to it so casually! Just wait and see."
Xiao Bai was startled and slapped his forehead.
"Oh yes! I almost forgot about you, my lovely cousin!"
She came over with a smile, "Then I'll leave it to you to convince grandma!"
Gu Zhongzhang froze instantly and slapped himself: "My broken mouth! It's always causing trouble!"
Why are you saying this?
Now, not only do I have to face my mother's tears, but I also have to deal with my grandmother's 300 questions about the traditional wedding process...
Song Wan laughed so hard that she slapped her thigh: "Gu Zhongzhang, you are digging your own grave!"
As soon as the news that Xiaobai and Tang Jingmo were returning to the village to hold their wedding spread, the entire Longshan Village was in an uproar.
Song Wan waved a long list in her hand: "I have prepared the menu for the banquet! Roasted whole lamb must be included! And Uncle Lin's bacon and vermicelli stew, Gu Zhongzhang said he will be in charge of grilled fish..."
Gu Zhongzhang stood aside, rarely refutating, but just crossed his arms, with a slight smile on his face: "No way, Song Wan, are you crazy? You don't expect a few of us to prepare a buffet for the whole village, do you?"
"That's right!" Song Wan patted her head, "How can we, half-baked people, prepare a full banquet? We must invite people! We must invite people!"
Lin Shuhua has matured a lot. He pulled his brother Lin Xiaoan to excitedly plan the wedding process. Hearing this, he smiled and said:
"Don't worry, the village chief said that it will be more fun if the whole village works together, but we still have to prepare the ingredients ourselves."
Lin Guohua smiled and sat in the yard sharpening his knife. "Of course, I have discussed the menu with the village chief, and with Song Wan's recipe, I have already started shopping. But..."
He looked at Xiaobai and said, "You may need to ask the Wolf King to send us more wild animals."
Xiaobai and Tang Jingmo sat aside, watching the group of people busying around, and couldn't help laughing:
"Don't worry, even if they don't behave, I can go up the mountain and fight them myself. I guarantee they'll be enough!"
"Why do I feel like they care more about our wedding than we do?" Xiaobai muttered in a low voice.
Tang Jingmo squeezed her hand: "Because to them, this is not just a wedding, it is proof that 'we are back'."
The sun was shining brightly on the wedding day.
There was no luxurious hotel and no complicated procedures. The wedding was held on the open space behind the mountain of Longshan Village.
Xiaobai was wearing a simple military uniform without too many decorations, except for a red ribbon tied around her waist to represent festivity - it was the same one she had tied at the International Military Competition that year.
Tang Jingmo was also wearing a neat military uniform, simple and low-key.
Song Wan was the master of ceremonies, Gu Zhongzhang was the witness, the Lin brothers and sisters were responsible for scattering flower petals, and Lin Guohua watched everything with satisfaction, because at present, he was the oldest.
Without the older generation to keep things in order, this group of people arranged the wedding as they pleased, half Western and half Chinese, just to make it lively.
"Bride and groom, exchange rings--" Song Wan dragged out the tone, deliberately making it sound weird.
Tang Jingmo took out the wedding ring that was a year late from his pocket and gently put it on Xiaobai's ring finger.
Xiaobai also put the ring on his finger, then suddenly leaned in close and whispered in his ear: "This time, don't let any more missions disturb us."
Tang Jingmo laughed softly: "Don't worry, I won't care even if the sky falls this time."
Amid the crowd's cheers, he bent his head and kissed her.
In the distance, the sun sets and the sunset dyes half the sky red.
