Chapter 107: Wedding Postponed
At the top of Longshen Mountain, the setting sun dyed the sea of clouds into a brilliant golden red.
“Ouch——!”
A silver-gray shadow rushed out from the woods like lightning and knocked Xiaobai to the grass.
"Be good, be good?!"
She looked at the majestic wolf king in front of her in shock - it was even stronger than a few years ago, and it even had a bunch of fresh wild flowers in its mouth, and its furry tail was shaking like a high-speed propeller.
Tang Jingmo squatted beside him, lighting a fire and roasting fish. The firelight reflected his smiling face: "Secretary Lin said that it will wait for you at the village entrance every evening."
Xiaobai leaned on the wolf king's soft belly and watched Tang Jingmo skillfully flip the grilled fish. The mountain breeze blew by, carrying the fragrance of pine and wild flowers.
"Actually..." She suddenly spoke, curling the wolf king's hair with her fingertips, "It's okay if the wedding is a little troublesome."
Tang Jingmo raised his eyebrows: "Not running away from marriage anymore?"
"Run away!" She grabbed a handful of pine needles and threw them at him. The golden pine needles scattered in the air and fell all over the man's head. "Remember to add an extra page to the invitation--"
"I know." He smiled and brushed the pine needles out of his hair. "Special guest: The Good Wolf King."
"Just think about it. Taking it there might not be a good thing."
Xiaobai put away his smile.
"In fact, it may not be a problem for us to set up a table in Longshan Village. We can take advantage of the holidays when the school is closed, and my brother and his family can come back, or it can be the New Year."
"Besides, I'm most afraid of trouble."
As night fell, the stars dotted the deep blue sky like diamonds. The two people's whispers were scattered in the moonlight.
The wedding was ultimately not held as scheduled, and an urgent task fell on them.
Gu Xicheng slammed the gold-stamped invitation on the table. The gold-stamped Russian emblem glowed coldly under the light:
"The Northern Federation International Military Elite Competition, you two will lead the team!"
Gu Xicheng's voice echoed in the airtight command room, "You two lead the team. The underground bank has already opened, betting on us to lose."
He paused, his mouth curled up in a cold arc, "You know what to do."
Xiaobai stretched out his hand and slapped the invitation card, slamming it heavily on the table. The gold-plated emblem glowed ominously under the cold white light.
"You want us to lose? I'm afraid you're just daydreaming." She raised an eyebrow and twirled her fingers. "As long as I'm here, the gold medal won't belong to anyone else."
The invitation unfolded beneath her hands, the list of contestants scrolling out like an ancient parchment.
When "Leader of the American Federation Team: Hunter"
When Xiaobai saw this line of words, his fingers stopped.
"Hunter?" She sneered and tapped the name with her knuckles, making a crisp sound. "What kind of cat or dog is this?"
Gu Xicheng did not answer immediately. He walked to the window. The base was brightly lit in the night, and the roar of helicopter rotors could be heard in the distance.
Tang Jingmo had stood in front of the invitation without knowing when. His eyes swept across the names and finally stopped at "Hunter". His eyes suddenly turned cold.
"Hunter..."
Tang Jingmo repeated the name in a low voice, his fingers unconsciously stroking the dagger at his waist.
Xiao Bai keenly noticed the difference in his tone: "Do you know him?"
Tang Jingmo did not answer immediately. Outside the window, a helicopter took off, and the strong searchlight swept across his face through the window, illuminating the murderous intent that flashed in his eyes.
"Five years ago, in the Balkans," he finally said, each word sounding like it had been fished out of an ice cellar. "He killed the two new recruits I was leading at the time."
At that time, I was hinting at Tang Jingmo's original self. Xiaobai understood.
Xiaobai was silent for a moment, then reached out and held Tang Jingmo's wrist, feeling the suppressed anger beneath his pulse.
"This time is different. You have changed." She said softly, "And this time you have me."
"Yes, I have changed. I am not myself, but I am still me."
Every word sounded like a tongue twister, but only the two of them understood the meaning.
Tang Jingmo held her hand with his backhand, so hard that it almost hurt her. But Xiaobai didn't pull her hand away, but just held it back with the same force.
The two stood in the darkness, conveying a silent oath through their clasped hands.
"You are indeed very strong," Gu Xicheng finally spoke, with a rare cautiousness in his voice.
"But they are not weak either. Especially this Hunter, who led the team to three consecutive championships. Last year at the polar training ground, he knocked down half of our special forces team by himself."
Xiao Bai whistled: "That sounds good. I was worried that my opponent was too weak and that the victory wouldn't be satisfying enough."
She clicked Hunter's name, her eyes gleaming with belligerence, already looking forward to the confrontation.
Tang Jingmo was not as relaxed as she was. His slender fingers traced the dark pattern on the edge of the invitation, where there was a line of almost invisible small words: "The use of 'non-traditional weapons' is allowed."
"'Unconventional weapons'?" He looked up at Gu Xicheng and said in a low voice, "Is that what I thought?"
Gu Xicheng nodded, his expression becoming serious: "Yes, that's what you think. New weapons, nerve agents, and maybe even some... technologies we've never seen before.
The people of the North were very generous this time, perhaps they wanted to show their strength.”
He paused and said, "This is also a chance for us to get to know our opponent up close."
"Unconventional? Interesting." Xiao Bai licked his lips, a dangerous light flashed in his eyes, "I just don't know if they will regret noting this later."
Tang Jingmo raised the corner of his mouth slightly, and immediately understood the implication of her words.
The two looked at each other and tacitly listed several "unconventional" response plans in their minds that would definitely make the people of the Northern Territory regret it.
Late at night, Xiaobai sat alone on the bed in the new house.
The wedding dress was still hanging on the hanger in the corner, and the bright red cheongsam looked like a dancing flame in the moonlight.
She took off her military jacket and wore only a vest. The scar on her shoulder shone silvery-white in the moonlight.
The door was gently pushed open, and Tang Jingmo walked in with two glasses of white wine in his hands. The moonlight outlined his tall figure, and the belt buckle on his military pants reflected a cold light.
"Have a drink?" He handed her a cup, "Just practice for yourself."
Xiao Bai took it and drank it all in one gulp. The spicy liquid burned her throat, as if she had swallowed a ball of fire.
She stared at the empty cup and suddenly smiled: "You said, we won't run into anyone we know over there, right?"
"Acquaintance?" Tang Jingmo frowned, "What kind of acquaintance?"
"Dr. He secretly released experimental subjects into different time and space to change the fulcrum of history. Those people above are watching covetously. Could it be that they have already made some moves?"
“You mean, the crisis is over, but the remaining problems may be brewing?”
Tang Jingmo thought about Dr. He's plan and thought that this was not impossible.
"However, since he said that as long as he protects you and keeps you alive in this time and space, the end of the world can be changed, then the previous biological actions must have failed. Don't think too much about it."
