Chapter 36 You're Not a Good Person
"What's going on?!" Hao Mei almost fainted when she saw the messy house.
"Didn't I tell you in advance before we went out? I thought you would be mentally prepared." Rutang's reaction was not as strong as hers.
All the glass in her house was broken, and the private plot in front of the yard was poured with salt water. The leaves of the vegetables were all wilted and it was obvious that they were dead.
Although Hao Mei was mentally prepared, she didn't expect it to turn out like this. Her legs went weak and she was about to fall to the ground. Rutang quickly helped her up.
Yu Yaoyang quickly brought the village chief and the production team leader over, and the surrounding neighbors also gathered around.
"What happened?" The village chief asked the people around him when he saw Rutang's house was smashed like this.
The neighbors remained silent, apparently not wanting to cause any trouble.
"What's going on?" Yu Yaoyang pointed at a child next to him. This was the eight-year-old child of the Zhang family who lived in the west room of Rutang's house.
The child hid behind his mother and didn't dare to speak. Yu Yaoyang took out a piece of candy from his pocket. Seeing this, the child immediately stepped forward to grab it. Yu Yaoyang clenched his fist, making it clear that only the children who told the truth would get the candy.
"As soon as you entered the city, Sister Rutang's uncle came with some people. He stood outside the yard and cursed for a while, then he climbed into the yard and smashed the glass with a brick. When my mother asked him what he was doing, he cursed my mother."
The child couldn't resist the temptation and soon told everything. His mother couldn't stop him and could only sigh and say, "I can't persuade them either. They are a group of people who want to eat people. They will scold anyone who tries to stop them. I think this is your family affair, so it's not good for me to interfere..."
Rutang nodded to show his understanding. The village is so small that people would meet each other every day. It is normal for people not to want to offend others. It is already a favor that they can help stop it.
"Well...how about, call her uncle over, and you two can talk it out face to face?" When the village chief heard that it was Chen Cai who did it, he was frightened and didn't want to get involved.
Hao Mei could tell that the village chief didn't want to intervene, and her eyes were filled with despair. Without Ru Tang's father at home and without a man to support her, she was completely helpless in the face of such a thing.
"What is there to say? Did he break the glass? Did he pour salt water on the vegetables? Just tell me whether you care or not." Yu Yaoyang grabbed the village chief's arm. It was impossible for him to escape.
"Why should I care? It's the Chen family's own business. There's nothing that can't be explained clearly between relatives." The village chief felt even more pain in his head when he saw Yu Yaoyang.
"Come on, let's talk for a moment." Yu Yaoyang dragged the village chief aside.
He mumbled something but I don't know what he said.
Hao Mei asked Rutang in a panic.
"What should I do?"
"It's okay, leave it to Brother Yaoyang, he can handle it." Rutang patted her hands, signaling her not to be nervous, everything is under control.
Soon, the village chief and Yu Yaoyang reached a consensus. When he came back, he was no longer avoiding the issue as before, but was full of righteousness.
"Call Chen Cai over here. This is outrageous. Bullying an orphan and a widow with no husband at home? You don't even take me, the village chief, seriously!"
Hao Mei was surprised and subconsciously looked at her daughter. What did Yangzi say to the village chief? Why did the village chief suddenly speak like a human?
"Conquer people with virtue." Rutang curled his lips. What can awaken the conscience of the village chief may not necessarily be duties and missions, but also money.
"Don't talk nonsense, brother. My money didn't come from the wind, and not just anyone is worthy of my bribery." Yu Yaoyang came closer and whispered in her ear.
"Ah? Could it be that the village chief has suddenly developed a conscience?" Rutang was surprised. He helped even without being paid. Is he still the greedy and cowardly village chief in their village?
"Maybe. I told him that if he didn't figure this out, I would squat outside his house and sing songs every day. He was moved by me."
“…You are really not a good person.” Rutang sighed. Evildoers need to be punished by evildoers. Is that what it means?
The village chief is also in a dilemma now. The Chen brothers are not easy to deal with, and Yu Yaoyang is even more difficult to deal with than them. If he offends the Chen brothers, at most he will have a hard time talking to them when they meet. But if he offends the village's worst villain, that would be really unfortunate. This guy is not a good person.
Chen Cai came over very quickly, with a large family, including Sixth Aunt who had been scolded by Rutang in the morning.
"Did you break the glass?" asked the village chief.
"What's wrong with me smashing my brother's glass? It takes two to tango. You don't even ask what this son of a bitch did! As long as we are here, these two bitches will never have a good life in our village!" Chen Cai pointed at Rutang. He was arrogant for only a second, and the next second he was kicked away by Yu Yaoyang.
"It takes two to tango, right?" Yu Yaoyang walked over, stepped on Chen Cai, raised his hand and slapped him twice.
"If I hit you, will it make any noise?"
When the Chen family saw him taking action, instead of surrounding him, they all took two steps back.
Last night at Rutang's uncle's house, these people had already suffered at the hands of Yu Yaoyang, and no one in Dali Village dared to openly challenge Yu Yaoyang.
Yu Yaoyang quickly controlled the situation. No matter how noisy the Chen family members were, they dared not act in front of him. Rutang felt that the time was right, so he stood up and said, "Fellow villagers, you have seen that the Chen family bullied my mother and me. Chen Fu was caught for playing with money. Shouldn't his brothers take care of me and my mother? Not only did they not take care of my mother and me, they also messed up my family like this. We can't stay here any longer. Please ask the village chief and all the villagers to be witnesses that it was the Chen family who bullied my mother too much and forced her to divorce!"
Rutang stood on the moral high ground and put the blame for the divorce on the Chen family, and his words were reasonable and logical.
When people heard Rutang talking about divorce, everyone around them gasped.
"Rutang, Second Uncle knows that you feel wronged, but you can't just talk about divorce. Why don't you wait for your father to come back..." The village chief tried to smooth things over. He didn't expect the problem to be so serious.
"Will my mother and I still be alive when my father comes back? This house is for you, but do you dare to live in it? If they can come and smash the glass today, will they come with knives tomorrow? If my mother and I are chopped to pieces by them, who among you dares to take responsibility? And this land, just look at it!"
Rutang pointed at the family's private plot. Farmers have the most affection for the land. In the countryside, pouring salt water on other people's land is definitely the most vicious revenge.
Salt water is extremely harmful to the land. Not only will this crop not survive, but it will be difficult to farm again in the future, unless you spend a lot of money on spraying pesticides. But now every household is barely able to make ends meet, so where would they get the spare money to do this?
"Oh, this is the first time I've heard a daughter instigate her parents to divorce in my entire life. It's just a piece of land, isn't it? Everyone knows that you, Chen Rutang, have made money in the city. You are rich now, so why do you still care about this? It's just a piece of land, why do you care so much?" Aunt Six saw that the matter had become a big deal and wanted to put the blame on Rutang again.
Yu Yaoyang originally had one hand on his waist and was watching his future daughter-in-law doing things with a smile on his face, but when he heard Sixth Aunt dare to say that about Rutang, he refused to stand it.
