Chapter 172
After these two weirdos left, Zhong's mother was extremely anxious and stood still.
"Tell me, they shouldn't be lying, but the last time I saw my dad, he was fine. How come he suddenly got sick, and it's so serious?"
Mr. Zhong was also puzzled: "Yeah, last time we met on the street, Dad was chatting with me and asked me how you were doing recently. You didn't look sick, how could you suddenly fall ill? Could it be that they were talking nonsense?"
There was no point in the two of them speculating here. Mother Zhong was really worried, so she decided to discuss with Father Zhong and go to the house in the afternoon to check on them.
Before leaving, they did not forget to remind Zhong Qiao to remember to eat, as they had already prepared food. Zhong Qiao originally wanted to go with them, but was persuaded to stop in order to prevent anyone from having any more thoughts about Wanwan.
"Then take these with you." Zhong Qiao stuffed all his expensive candy and meat coupons into Zhong's mother's pocket. "Give them to Grandpa when the time comes. Let him have a good rest and eat more good food to replenish his body."
"Don't worry." Zhong's father said comfortingly, "Your mother has already brought a lot, and there will be no room for more. You should take good care of the children at home and try to go out as little as possible."
Zhong Qiao knew that he was worried about her, so she nodded: "Dad, don't worry, I'm fine alone, and your daughter is not that fragile."
Father Zhong looked at her and sighed: "It would be great if I could take you back to Hong Kong, so you wouldn't have to work so hard every day."
The corners of his eyes felt sore, and he wiped away a tear and said, "Forget it, your mother and I have something to do, so I'll leave first."
Zhong Qiao watched the two of them leave.
After about ten minutes, it started to drizzle, dark clouds rolled in, and thunder began to roar.
Zhong Qiao went to the kitchen to cut some fruit, then read a book in the bedroom, occasionally glancing at Wanwan lying on the bed.
Wanwan is growing very fast and is very lively. She is playing on the bed with the little toy that Siqi gave her last time and is quite happy being alone.
There were some small noises outside the window.
Zhong Qiao stopped and looked out the window. He saw that it was Zhong Siqi who had returned. He was still wearing a raincoat. He put his bicycle aside and rushed home.
When Zhong Qiao pushed the door open, she saw that he looked like a drowned rat.
"Why are you so late from school today?"
Zhong Siqi wiped the raindrops off his face carelessly: "No, Xiaohe didn't bring an umbrella, so I sent her home first."
Zhong Qiao looked him up and down: "How come you're so wet even though you're wearing a raincoat?"
"No." Zhong Siqi took off his raincoat and explained, "I only have one. I gave it to Xiaohe first. I only wear it when I come back."
Zhong Qiao raised her eyebrows: "You finally got it." But in a flash, she felt sorry for her silly brother and went to get a dry towel to wipe his hair.
"Why did you think of sending her home today? And you even gave her your raincoat."
Zhong Siqi shook her hair like a golden retriever, trying to shake off the water droplets on her hair: "She is a girl and can't go home alone. Her family must be very worried. Besides, I am a boy and I am in good health. She is so thin. I think she will be blown away by the wind before she even leaves the house. That would be too pitiful."
Zhong Qiao smiled.
Although her brother's reason was silly, it was still somewhat cute. Fortunately, she had been training him since he was a child and he did not disappoint her expectations.
"I'll go warm up the food for you. Hurry up and change your clothes and take a shower. Don't catch a cold." Zhong Qiao reminded.
Zhong Siqi was already shivering from the cold and nodded quickly: "Okay."
After saying that, he went to take a shower. In this short time, Zhong Qiao had already warmed up the food. When she came out, Zhong Siqi had been waiting at the dining table for a long time. Except for some damp hair, his clothes were dry, and he could even free up one hand to coax Wanwan.
Zhong Qiao said, "Are you done washing? So fast." She remembered that it was only a few minutes. Is this the speed of a man?
Zhong Siqi said: "It's not fast anymore. It's much slower than usual. It took me a little longer to dry my hair."
"Sister." He stretched out his hand eagerly, "Give me food quickly, I can smell the aroma of meat, I'm starving."
Zhong Qiao handed him the dish: "Be careful, it's hot."
Zhong Siqi took it and opened it. It contained vegetables, pork rib soup, and a piece of fat braised pork. Zhong Qiao knew he loved this kind of food, so she picked it out specially. Sure enough, his eyes lit up: "Braised pork."
He stuffed the food into his mouth without caring about the heat: "Mom hasn't made braised pork for a long time, I miss it so much."
Zhong Qiao poured him a bowl of soup and said, "Eat slowly. Drink the ginger soup later to get rid of the cold."
Zhong Siqi hated ginger soup the most. When he was a child, his mother often gave it to him to dispel the cold. However, Zhong Qiao worked hard to make it, so Zhong Siqi had to give her face and drank a few sips perfunctorily.
Zhong Qiao knew that he didn't like to drink, so he didn't make it too difficult for him.
After eating and drinking, Zhong Siqi finally remembered and said, "Sister, what's going on between you and the eldest brother of the Ji family?"
"I passed by Baihelou today and heard that you had a fight. The waiter said your face looked really ugly at the time. What could have happened to make you so angry?"
Zhong Siqi began to imagine, and before Zhong Qiao could say anything, he covered his mouth in fear: "Could it be, could it be that he is cheating on me?"
Zhong Qiao was amused by him: "What nonsense are you talking about? It's not true."
She explained the matter clearly, but Zhong Siqi frowned instead: "Sister, Brother Ji is not that kind of person. Is there a possibility that he is trying to protect you, or that he has his own difficulties? I heard that he had a big fight with his family because of you. It's impossible that he didn't tell his family the truth."
Zhong Qiao glanced at him and said, "You've heard this and that, how come you know everything?"
Zhong Siqi was very proud: "I'm not exaggerating. My friends know all kinds of gossip. I heard that Brother Ji had a big fight with his family last time, and it was all because of you."
"But," Zhong Siqi was puzzled, "since I've already confessed to my family, why did I lie to you?"
"Could it be that my information is wrong?"
Zhong Qiao lowered his eyes: "Since he lied to me, it means he has a guilty conscience. I don't like people who lie, no matter what the reason is."
Zhong Siqi knew that although she appeared to be indifferent on the surface about the Xu family, she was still brooding over it in her heart and was unable to trust others. Lying was something that could be tolerated by others, but for Zhong Qiao, it was unforgivable.
"Sister." Zhong Siqi said in a calm voice, "I just want to say that you're not in a good mood right now. You're like a turtle I raised when I was a child. When it gets hurt, it retreats into its shell and even bites me. But I'm obviously the one who treats it well and didn't hurt it, yet it blames me for its injury. I'm very sad."
"Sister, you are that kind of person now."
