Chapter 405 Reciprocity is Key
Yao Shula didn't speak, she just looked at Yao Shuxin.
Yao Shuxin used to always have a slightly furrowed brow. Even when she was happy and smiled a little, her brow would quickly return to its previous furrowed state.
A girl like that clearly has something on her mind.
Yao Shula knew that Yao Shuxin's problem stemmed from her heart; her worries had been lingering for many years.
Even after she grew up and went to school in Shanghai, she looked like any other girl, but she only hid what was in her heart and never forgot it.
Seeing that her sister was not speaking, Yao Shuxin quickly turned to the side and hugged Yao Shula's arm, resting her head on Yao Shula's shoulder.
"Sister, really! After I went to North America, I really felt like there wasn't enough time at first."
There were so many things to do back then. I had to practice my English well, otherwise I wouldn't be able to understand the professor's lectures.
There were so many books to read that I was so busy I didn't even have time to eat. Back then, I would often buy a bag of bread and a bottle of water in the morning and take it to class. That bag of bread was my only meal for the day.
I even have to squeeze in time to call you. Every time I run to make the call, I rush back to continue reading afterward.
Later, one time when I was about to go to sleep, I suddenly remembered that I hadn't thought about Yao Guohua for a long time.
It's like I've forgotten him!
It's like my time is so tight, how could I possibly waste it on him!
Later, I would go with my teacher to see some patient cases and such. At that time... I really felt the impermanence of life.
Since then, I've learned that we only live once, and it's better to forget people we shouldn't remember as soon as possible. Just stay away from that rotten mud and spend your limited time on more important people.
Sis, you really don't need to worry about me anymore!
"Yao Guohua... he's just a stumbling block on my path in life. I can just jump over him; I don't need to keep looking back," Yao Shuxin said earnestly.
Yao Shula hummed in agreement and pulled the blanket up a little higher.
"Shuxin is right! We don't need to be distracted by those stumbling blocks, let's just live our lives well!"
Okay, time to sleep. You must be tired after such a long flight, so get some rest!
"I'll buy you soy milk and fried dough sticks tomorrow morning!"
Yao Shuxin nodded, then snuggled closer to Yao Shula and quickly fell asleep.
...
The next morning, when Yao Shuxin opened her eyes, there was no one beside her.
She slept so soundly that she didn't even dream, and slept until dawn.
Yao Shuxin quickly got dressed and got up. After washing up, she went downstairs and saw Yao Shula coming back from outside with breakfast.
"Soy milk, fried dough sticks, steamed buns, scallion pancakes, we have them all! Eat whichever you like!" Yao Shula said with a smile, urging Yao Shuxin to come and have breakfast.
Yao Shuxin took a deep breath of the aroma of breakfast.
"I want to eat them all!"
"Then eat! It would be best if you could finish it all, but you can eat it a little later at noon!"
Shuxin, you eat first, and then clean up the dishes. I'll go open the door next door.
"It's almost the end of the year, and there are more people out shopping for clothes, so I need to open early." Yao Shula said, putting on her scarf and heading out.
Yao Shuxin quickly sat down at the dining table.
"Okay, sis, you go ahead and do your work! I'll finish breakfast, wash the dishes, and then go out to visit two classmates at school."
I probably won't be coming back for lunch; I'll eat at the medical university.
"Sister, where's Shuli? Is he still asleep or has he gone out? Where's Tiantian?" Yao Shuxin asked while biting into a fried dough stick.
"Tian Tian was picked up by his grandfather's people early this morning. He has two foreign language classes this morning, and his grandfather is taking him to a lunch party at noon."
Shu Li got up early in the morning and went to see his classmate, as there was something going on at school.
If you eat at the school and don't come back, just give my shop a call, and I'll just go across the street for noodles for lunch.
Okay, you go eat first! I'm going to open the shop next door!
Yao Shula went out after she finished speaking.
...
At noon, neither Yao Shuxin, Yao Shuli, nor Xiao Tiantian came over.
Gu Xiaoman's workplace is also busy, and she can only come over in the afternoon recently, so Yao Shula is the only one working in the store.
It's almost the end of the year, and everyone is out shopping for New Year's goods.
Yao Shula's shop was extremely busy. Customers came in as soon as the shop opened, and Yao Shula didn't have time to drink some water until noon.
However, Lei Jingwu came over at noon. He brought some food from the restaurant for Yao Shula and ate with her.
"Your shop needs to hire someone! Xiaoman is too busy at work to come over, how can you manage on your own!"
"Once we get back from Yun County, we need to find someone right away!" Lei Jingwu handed the chopsticks to Yao Shula.
Yao Shula nodded and began to eat in silence.
Lei Jingwu didn't even bother to eat himself, he just kept putting food into Yao Shula's bowl.
"Oh, I've already bought all the things you need to take back to Yun County. You're so busy right now, you probably don't have time to prepare those things yourself."
You'll be a little busy these next few days. Xiaoman won't be so busy in a few days; she comes over to check on the shop every day.
We'll go back together then.
"Did you call and tell Grandma and the others that you're going back?" Lei Jingwu asked.
Yao Shula chewed and swallowed the fried shrimp in her mouth before nodding.
"I called and told Grandma, and she was so happy. She said she and my sisters-in-law went and cleaned our house thoroughly."
They also said they made a lot of sausages this year, as well as a lot of cured meat and salted duck eggs pickled in wood ash, and they wanted us to take them with us when we came back.
Lei Jingwu, are you sure you want to come with us to Yun County for the New Year?
"Your father and your parents... don't have any objections?" Yao Shula looked at Lei Jingwu.
Lei Jingwu chuckled and served Yao Shula another small bowl of chicken soup.
"My mom was overjoyed! She thought I was only able to go along because of Xiaotian, and she even told me to make a good impression on my grandma."
Saying that you are a filial person, and that if Grandma thinks I'm good, she'll say nice things about me in front of you, that will earn you a lot of points.
They even said I was smart, that I knew how to achieve my goals indirectly!
They also told me to buy more food for the elderly and bring it with me, so I could make sure to keep Grandma happy!
As for Grandpa... he said it was only right and told me to handle it myself!
Shura, I need to talk to you about something. After we come back from Yun County, should we go public with our relationship?
"Shouldn't you also make a proper visit to our house? It's only fair to reciprocate!" Lei Jingwu said, looking at Yao Shula.
Yao Shula...
"Didn't your grandfather already know?"
"That's different! Grandpa knows, but the rest of the family doesn't! We need to let them know that they'll have someone to take care of them from now on!"
"Let them open their eyes wider and come to pay their respects to you sooner rather than later!" Lei Jingwu chuckled.
Yao Shula...
"Let's talk about it after we get back from Yun County!"
