Chapter 38 Special Roast Duck

The train traveled quite slowly, taking a whole day and night. By the time the family arrived in Beijing, it was already the next morning.

The Beijing of the 1980s certainly cannot be compared with the postmodern era, but its current prosperity far exceeds that of other places.

There are a lot of cars on the streets, people are dressed more beautifully, and women show more skin than in other cities.

Chu Qingshan returned to his hometown after more than 20 years of wandering. The unfamiliar feeling made him feel a little timid. He held his wife's hand tightly with tears in his eyes.

Li Lihua patted the back of her husband's hand soothingly.

Aunt Jiang has lived in a small county town all her life and has never seen such a prosperous place. She stared with wide eyes along the way and exclaimed in amazement from time to time.

Chu Yu was even more childish. Seeing the pedestrians and cars passing by on the street, his face was filled with curiosity and excitement.

Chu Yun was the calmest among the group. She looked around and began to plan where the family would stay.

Chu Yun asked: "Dad, do you still remember the address of your original home?"

Chu Qingshan's eyes dimmed when he heard this, and he sighed, "When I was sent down, all the properties in my family were taken away. I'll find a hotel to stay in first."

After he was exiled to the island, his household registration was also moved there a few years later. Although Jingshi was his hometown, he obviously had no place to stay at the moment.

Chu Yun was unfamiliar with this place, and noticing her father's downcast expression, she nodded, "Alright, let's find a hotel first, and then we can ask about renting a courtyard."

Li Lihua nodded. "Xiaoyun is right. Once we get to Beijing, things will be easier. We can find a house later. But right now, we've been traveling all the way. Let's find a place to rest and have a meal first."

In the 1980s, there were already taxi-like vehicles on the roadsides of the capital, and Chu Yun waved to stop one.

The destination is the Hongye Hotel near the city center.

The hotel Chu Yun mentioned was something she found out about from a Beijing local on the train.

She wrote down all the key information in Guo Yong's two letters.

What interested her most was the person behind the scenes who gave Guo Yong 100,000 yuan and the address he left.

That address is the Hongye Hotel on Hai Street in Jing City.

There were five adults in their group, and the taxi could only seat four. Chu Yun originally wanted to take another one, but Aunt Jiang huddled in and kept asking them to squeeze in.

In a small county town, everyone travels by walking or riding a bicycle; no one takes a car.

It was the first time for Aunt Jiang to ride in one, and it was not cheap. She felt that she was causing trouble for others, and she was already very grateful to her niece and her family for taking her to the capital. Food, clothing and drinks were expensive along the way, so she saved a lot.

The taxi driver was accustomed to this kind of scene. Since the whole family was from out of town, he said, "This place is not far from the city center. It's only about ten minutes to get to the hotel over there. If you can squeeze in, get in the car and go."

The weather was hot, so Chu Yun originally wanted to ride in two cars.

But it seemed that Aunt Jiang wanted to curl up her body, and she pulled her uncle to the innermost part, while smiling foolishly and letting Li Lihua get on the car.

Li Lihua saw the embarrassment behind Aunt Jiang and could only look at her daughter helplessly.

Chu Yun smiled and said, "Okay, let's squeeze in."

There is still a lot of space for taxis at the moment.

Aunt Jiang is thin, and although her uncle is tall, he is also rather thin. The two of them huddled together and took up less than half of the space.

Li Lihua has gained some weight back on her face these days, but her body is still very slim. With Chu Yun being a little girl, she can still sit comfortably.

"Everyone, please sit down. Let's go."

The driver stepped on the accelerator and set off for the destination.

After settling in the hotel, seeing that everyone was very tired, Chu Yun went to a nearby restaurant and packed some food.

After dinner, everyone went back to their rooms to catch up on some sleep.

The train was overcrowded and there were no berths available. Everyone had back pain after sitting on hard seats for a whole day and night.

It was not until the afternoon that the big guys regained some energy after a nap.

After asking the waiter at the front desk, Chu Yun took everyone to a well-known roast duck restaurant.

It’s so hard to come to the capital, how can you not try some local specialties?

The roast duck restaurant is a time-honored brand and you can smell the fragrance from far away.

When we went in, there were already quite a few customers eating.

Chu Yu's eyes lit up, he sniffed and whispered, "What a nice smell! Is this the smell of roast duck?"

Chu Yun smiled and said, "Yes, uncle, let's eat this."

Chu Yu was already dizzy with the aroma, and he swallowed his saliva and nodded obediently: "I'm already dizzy with the aroma, thank you Ayun for taking my uncle to eat roast duck."

Everyone was amused by Chu Yu, and the nervousness of entering the roast duck restaurant was relieved.

The old roast duck restaurant is very large and the interior is decorated in a very high-end and classy manner.

"Welcome, please come this way, five of you." The waiter came over.

Chu Yun chose a seat by the window.

After sitting down, Chu Yun showed the menu handed to her by the waiter to her parents and Aunt Jiang, and asked the elders to order first.

In the end, they didn’t even look at it, and quickly pushed it to Chu Yun, “Xiao Yun, order it, we can all do it.”

Chu Yun smiled and didn't refuse anymore.

We ordered a special roast duck and some special dishes. These are for now and we can add more later if they are not enough.

The waiter quickly recorded the order, left a pot of tea, and asked us to wait for a moment.

It's nice for everyone to sit down and drink tea. It's a grand restaurant in a big city.

As the dishes came up one after another, I was shocked by the chef's dazzling knife skills.

The roast duck is made with absolutely authentic ingredients, the meat is firm and has a good taste. The chef's knife skills are superb, and each piece is cut very evenly. Paired with a special sauce, it is a feast for the eyes.
