Chapter 26
"Mom, this time I have a toy car and a pistol too."
"As long as An An likes it, come here and give me a hug. Who else has a car?" Zhong Miao opened his arms.
"Wang Xiaotian, the day before yesterday I went to play at Grandma Zhu's house, and they all went there too. Wang Xiaotian was holding this little car."
An An ran over like a little cannonball and bumped into her arms, but he was reluctant to put down the little car and the little pistol, and he couldn't hug his mother back. He looked at his beautiful mother, pouted his little mouth that was greasy from eating snacks, and was about to kiss his mother on the face.
When they were almost kissing, An An was picked up by Pei Ze, "Pei Ming'an, just try to kiss my wife."
Zhong Miao felt a little distressed when she saw An An pouting, clearly unhappy. "He's only four years old."
"Even at four years old, it's okay for a child to act up, but why are you still like this? Do you understand that grown-up children should avoid their mothers?"
His wife is beautiful and is always stared at when he is outside. When he comes home, he has a little baby to kiss, and he has only kissed her a few times.
"Then An An, let's hug each other." Zhong Miao reached out and rubbed An An's head, then picked up An An from Pei Ze's arms.
"Yeah, then let's kiss secretly after Daddy leaves." An An put his arms around his mother's neck and whispered in her ear.
"Pei Mingan, you think I'm deaf, right?"
"An An, ignore him, let's just kiss openly."
Zhong Miao kissed An An's little face. She was a little angry. She was just a four-year-old child. She didn't do anything, so why couldn't she be kissed?
Zhong Miao couldn't stand seeing An An's aggrieved look. She was originally quite happy, but when he got involved, everything was ruined.
An An also kissed her mother on the cheek.
Pei Ze was almost mad. His wife had never kissed him on her own initiative, but this guy got there first. No, he had to ask his wife for it back tonight.
Zhang Weilan prepared the meal, and Pei Ze went out to help his old mother serve the dishes. An An took advantage of his father's absence to kiss his mother twice, which made Zhong Miao laugh.
"An An, tell me, what's fun to do at Grandma Zhu's house?"
Zhang Weilan brought in some dishes and placed them on the kang table. As An An told Zhong Miao about her visit the day before yesterday, she couldn't help but interject, "It's so cold, the children can't go out to play. The grandchildren from our front yard neighbor's house came back these past couple of days and played with the other children in the village. I asked An An to go get some fresh air too; it's not good to be cooped up at home all the time."
"Yeah, I'll take An An out for a walk when the weather gets warmer." Zhong Miao has never taken care of a child before, so it should be fun to take him out to play.
"Okay, An An must be very happy."
Zhang Weilan is also happy to have her daughter-in-law take care of the children more, not because she wants her to do any work, but just to cultivate their relationship.
Zhong Miao is a good person and is genuinely kind to An An.
Zhong Miao rarely went to the city, and she originally thought that the bags and small bags brought by the young couple were all things bought by themselves, but she didn't expect that everyone got something, and An An got the most, including toys, snacks, and two new sets of clothes.
Even an old lady like her has one. It’s a woolen sweater, the most fashionable one at the moment.
But what about Zhong Miao? Not only did she buy a sweater, but she hasn't even finished knitting it yet.
The whole family sat around the kang table, eating and chatting.
"It's time to buy New Year's goods in a few days. What do you want?" Pei Ze asked.
"I want firecrackers." An An answered successfully.
"Okay." Pei Ze picked up a piece of meat for An An.
"You should buy more ribs and meat. We have chickens at home. It's the New Year, so we have to eat something good. We can fill the dumplings with sauerkraut and cabbage." Zhang Weilan said.
"Okay, what about you?" Pei Ze looked at Zhong Miao.
"Me? I don't need anything. I don't know what to buy."
"When the time comes, you can go shopping with Miaomiao and buy whatever you like." The more Zhang Weilan looked at her daughter-in-law's confused look, the more she found it adorable.
"Yeah, okay."
After dinner, Zhong Miao felt drowsy, so she took An An to the new house for a nap. In the main room, Pei Ze helped his old mother clean up and started talking about business.
Pei Ze told his mother about Zhong Miao going to school, and also told her about his and Zhong Miao's ideas about the furniture factory, and that he wanted to buy a house in the city.
"Oh my, when did my son become so hardworking and motivated? Wow, he's different now that he has a wife."
How could she not know what kind of person her son is? Once he earns enough money and has some financial resources, he loses motivation. He won't listen to anything you say to him, and only his daughter-in-law can make him heard.
"Who told you to find me such a spoiled wife? She really has no concept of money. If she doesn't make any money, she will spend all the family wealth on you."
"Don't blame my daughter-in-law. If you don't want to work hard, who can force you? You're like a stubborn donkey." Zhang Weilan teased her son while cracking melon seeds.
"Oh, aren't you surprised that your daughter-in-law has such knowledge and ability?" Pei Ze himself was surprised. He didn't expect that his old mother was so calm, as if this was how it should be.
"Surprised, really surprised. It's a blessing for our family to have such an outstanding girl marry into our family. Alas, the better someone is, the more people will want them. You're right. We should go to the city and buy a house. We can't live apart."
Zhang Weilan sighed. She didn't want to leave her little piece of land, but she couldn't burden her son and daughter-in-law to stay in the village with her.
"Well, you can go and live there when the time comes."
"Okay, I see you've received a lot of education this time. I'm afraid my daughter-in-law will find someone better and then look down on you for being incompetent. You must be feeling a sense of crisis, right?"
"Humph, I'm just afraid that she's stupid and will be fooled."
"I think you're the fool. If my daughter-in-law was easy to fool, you would have fooled her into getting her long ago. How can you still be so nervous?"
"I know that, but I'm still worried."
"Humph, I don't know who it was, but I never looked at him straight in the eye. Now I'm getting my comeuppance."
"Hey, Mom, why are you still bringing up old scores?"
"Alright, alright, I won't talk about it anymore. Your father-in-law is not an ordinary person in his speech and conversation, and the daughter he raised is also extraordinary. I didn't realize it before because our two families were not familiar with each other."
"No one can tell that you, an old country woman, are rich."
"Yeah, that's right. You're building a factory and buying a house. Do you have enough money? If not, just use mine. Those gold nuggets are just for you. Spend them when you need to."
"It's definitely enough to buy a house, and the rest is about enough to clean up the factory and open a store. I just don't know how much it will cost for advertising."
"Oh, you only give An An and me fifty dollars a month. I didn't know you had so much money. If I had known, I wouldn't have asked you for it. Hehe."
Zhang Weilan said this to tease her son. She had invested money in a furniture factory for her son. Pei Ze wanted to give her all the money he earned, but she asked him to keep it for himself. She only took back her own capital and 30 yuan a month for living expenses. Later, when prices were a little higher, she gave him 50 yuan.
What does fifty yuan mean? The family's food costs only a few to ten yuan a month, plus miscellaneous expenses, it is less than twenty yuan. After Zhong Miao came, she spent a little more in order to give her daughter-in-law good food, but it was still less than thirty yuan.
This is only because their family is well-off that they can spend so much. Some families with seven or eight people only spend a dozen yuan.
"You old lady always say I'm unruly. Isn't this just like you?"
"You little brat, how dare you make fun of your mother." Zhang Weilan reached out and slapped Pei Ze on the shoulder.
"It hurts, Mom."
My old mother works hard every day and she is very strong.
After Pei Ze finished reporting to his mother, he returned to his new home. His wife was sleeping soundly with her son in her arms.
He felt like he was really crazy, and he was a little unhappy with his son. He took off his coat and went to the kang, holding both the big and the small in his arms, and went to catch up on his sleep.
An An woke up first. Seeing that his parents were not awake yet, he felt a little bored and got down to the ground slowly, being careful not to wake up his parents.
When An An returned to the main house, he saw that his grandmother had also fallen asleep. The little guy picked up the toy car on the desk and fiddled with it quietly.
When Zhong Miao woke up in a daze, she opened her eyes and saw Pei Ze's enlarged face.
"Awake." Pei Ze touched her face.
"Well, what time is it?"
"It's still early, there's no rush."
"Well, where's An An?"
"I guess he went to look for his grandmother."
"Yeah." Zhong Miao took his hand away from her. She felt a little too hot from sleeping, so she rolled over on her own and continued to lie down away from Pei Ze.
"You kissed An An today." Pei Ze came over, hugged her, and rubbed her hair with his chin.
"Well, just kiss me." Zhong Miao had just woken up, and her voice was still soft.
"You haven't kissed me yet."
Zhong Miao came to her senses after hearing this. Pei Ze, the male supporting character, really didn't live up to his character setting at all. How come he was nothing like what was written in the book? Wasn't he said to be difficult to get along with? And wasn't he said to be rude to the female supporting character?
Why is he so clingy? I can't avoid him.
"Well, what's wrong?"
"You have to compensate me." Pei Ze leaned forward.
Zhong Miao gave a symbolic chirp. She had just woken up, her thoughts were slow, her emotions were out of sync, and she had no interest in him. "Okay."
Pei Ze got angry when he saw her heartless look, so he hugged her and kissed her.
He had originally planned to get it back at night, but now his wife was right in front of him and he couldn't wait even a moment.
As soon as Zhong Miao woke up, he kissed her again and she became confused. In her daze, she was still thinking that Pei Ze's character had collapsed beyond recognition.
Pei Ze let her go, looked at her silly and cute look, and laughed out loud.
"What are you laughing at?"
"My wife is lovely and very popular."
Pei Ze dragged his wife around for a while, and Zhong Miao almost lost her temper before letting her up.
After being away for a few days, Zhong Miao felt a sense of security when he returned to this familiar new house.
This was the room she had lived in on her first day here. After the renovation, it became the most comfortable place she had ever lived in. Here, she felt comfortable both physically and mentally. Perhaps she had developed a sense of belonging to this home.
-
The next morning, when Zhong Miao woke up, Pei Ze had already left. Looking at the dozen ten-yuan bills left on the kang, Zhong Miao wondered why Pei Ze had nothing better to do than give her money, as she had no place to spend the money in the village.
The art exam is a big deal for Zhong Miao but it is not a difficult task. She just needs to go to the school to register after the New Year, but she also feels itchy.
After dinner, there was nothing to do, so she lowered the easel a little. Zhong Miao sat on the kang and painted the small courtyard outside.
It is not possible to sketch outside at this time. Even if she is not afraid of the cold, the water in the bucket for rinsing the brush will freeze into ice cubes. It is better to sit in the house for comfort.
An An and Zhang Weilan were also sitting next to her, watching her paint.
Zhong Miao used a large pen to directly mix the background color and painted it on the paper. The courtyard wall, the sky, the chicken coop and the snow in the yard were divided into four large blocks of color. There were also some miscellaneous items next to the chicken coop. The plum tree in the yard now only had dead branches left, without even any fallen leaves.
