Chapter 43 Indiscretion

"Say that again!" Chen Wanping pointed at Han Zhiyuan's face. "Without my grandfather, would I have my mother? Without my mother, would I be here? Without me, where would you get your wife and three children! Han Zhiyuan, you've forgotten your roots!"

"Okay, okay, I was wrong. I shouldn't have insulted your grandfather." Han Zhiyuan admitted defeat. "If I were really as ungrateful as you say, and you ran away with all my money, I would have killed you the first day I found you. If it weren't for the fact that we were husband and wife and that you gave birth to three children for me, would I have forgiven you so quickly?"

The more Han Zhiyuan talked, the more he realized how kind and generous he truly was.

"How many men in this world are as kind, generous, and good to their wives as I am? You should be content!"

Chen Wanping pressed, "What exactly is going on between you and Song Yinhua!"

"It's all for our three children." Han Zhiyuan said with a look of humiliation and forbearance. "I've only met Song Yinhua a few times. How can she compare to you? Does she even deserve you? If it weren't for her big build and ability to work, I wouldn't even give her a second glance!"

Chen Wanping was satisfied when she heard Han Zhiyuan belittle Song Yinhua.

“Wife, last time I asked you to come home and live a good life with me, but you refused. We made a promise then, and you agreed that I should marry Song Yinhua to help us take care of the children. If you want to go back on your word now, it’s not too late. Come home with me now, apologize to my mother, and we’ll live a good life together.”

"How can you go back on your word!" Chen Wanping muttered, pouting, not wanting to go back and suffer that ordeal.

"Then once I marry Song Yinhua, you're not allowed to cause trouble for me!"

"Then promise me you won't fall in love with Song Yinhua!" Chen Wanping rested her chin on Han Zhiyuan's chest and acted coquettishly, her fingers tickling his chest.

"To me, Song Yinhua was just a free nanny. Who would fall in love with their own nanny?"

In his past life, he had the same attitude towards Song Yinhua.

From beginning to end, he felt that Song Yinhua was not good enough for him, nor was she as good at stirring his heart as Chen Wanping.

They would do farm work, housework, and take care of the elderly and children, just like a maid.

She doesn't usually say sweet words to please him; she's incredibly boring.

Han Zhiyuan thought back to his past life, wondering if his children had brought Chen Wanping home to reunite with him after his death.

In his previous life, he accidentally learned about Chen Wanping at Cai Xing's wedding. Since then, he and Chen Wanping have maintained a romantic relationship. Sometimes, he would find excuses to take his three children out to secretly reunite with their mother.

The two agreed that after their children grew up and started their own families, Song Yinhua would help raise her children and then they would divorce.

Then they remarried, went on a trip together, and ate seafood.

At home, I usually enjoy family time.

Enjoy a peaceful and happy old age.

But before he could enjoy his good days, he suddenly contracted the same illness as his father.

Han Zhiyuan was still feeling regretful about his previous life, but fortunately, he was reborn forty years ago, and everything could start over.

Chen Wanping asked Han Zhiyuan, "Between me and Song Yinhua, who is prettier?"

"You jealous bastard! You're good-looking, of course you're better looking!" She always liked to ask him these questions in her past life too.

He asked her who was prettier, her or Song Yinhua; he asked who served him more comfortably in bed, her or Song Yinhua; he asked if Song Yinhua had a better figure than her.

She always compared herself to Song Yinhua.

As night deepened, Han Zhiyuan, who had to go to work the next morning, got dressed and prepared to leave.

Chen Wanping said reluctantly, "The thought that I have to wait ten days for you to come see me next makes me so sad."

"You won't come home with me!"

"Are you willing to let me suffer like that?" Chen Wanping asked coquettishly.

The two parted reluctantly, agreeing to meet at 9 pm every month on the ninth day of the ninth month outside the Tang family gate.

Chen Wanping watched Han Zhiyuan ride his old bicycle into the night before pushing open the door to enter the courtyard.

The large iron gate was tightly closed.

Chen Wanping pushed the door again and found that it had been locked from the inside.

She pounded on the large iron gate, making it rattle loudly.

The entire Tang family was woken up by the noise.

Zhou Qiaoyun, who had already gone to bed, was nudged by her husband, who urged her to get up and check what was going on.

"They're knocking on your door, why should I, an outsider, open it?" Zhou Qiaoyun said sarcastically.

Tang Youliang was getting annoyed by the noise. "Why are you so suspicious? I've already told you that what my dad and the others are talking about has nothing to do with you. Don't meddle in other people's business."

“I’m an outsider, I don’t want to meddle. You’re the family, I’m the only outsider,” Zhou Qiaoyun said sarcastically.

Tang Youliang had no choice but to get up and open the door.

Once outside, the lights in the main living room were on.

Grandpa Tang went to open the door himself.

The door was pounded on loudly for a long time, but no one came to open it.

"Dad, who is it? It's the middle of the night!" Tang Youliang called out and went over.

When Grandpa Tang opened the door, he saw Chen Wanping.

"Wanping, what are you doing outside?" Old Master Tang asked when he saw his son. "Wanping sleeps over there. Didn't you know she hadn't come home? Who closed the door?"

Tang Youliang was completely confused by the questions. When he saw his wife had followed him, he started to get angry at her.

Zhou Qiaoyun said aggrievedly, "Your family finished the meeting at almost 11 o'clock. I've been busy working and looking after the children. I thought Wanping was asleep in the room, so I closed the door. What if we hadn't closed it and a thief had broken in?"

Zhou Qiaoyun's answer was perfectly correct. Old Master Tang asked Chen Wanping, "Where have you been? It's already past midnight."

Just as Chen Wanping was trying to figure out how to get out of this, Zhou Qiaoyun exclaimed, "Wanping, why are you covered in grass? And why is your neck so red? Did you get bitten by insects?"

Chen Wanping became nervous.

Only then did the Tang father and son notice the marks on Chen Wanping's neck.

They're all in their fifties or sixties; they know perfectly well how those marks on their necks got there.

It must have been left by a man.

"You met with Han Zhiyuan again?" Old Master Tang asked.

"No, his home is more than 20 miles away from here."

"That's good. You break up with that Han Zhiyuan right now!" Grandpa Tang thought she couldn't stand being alone and had hooked up with some guy nearby. "Grandpa will introduce you to a good young man in a couple of days."

Chen Wanping made an excuse and hurriedly ran into the house.

Tang Youliang was worried that his father, being old, might fall while walking at night, so he helped his father into the main house.

Seeing that Zhou Qiaoyun hadn't come along, Tang Youliang asked his father, "Dad, are you really going to send someone to Songzhuang Village to pretend to be a fortune teller and slander Erzhuang's daughter for being immoral? If you get caught, with Erzhuang's temper, you'll get beaten up. The mark on Wanping's neck is obviously from a man. Your own granddaughter is immoral, and you're sending a fortune teller to slander her..."

"With so many grandchildren, why would I be afraid of a mere Song Erzhuang? Besides, I'm almost seventy years old. If Erzhuang dares to lay a finger on me, I'll paralyze his house and make him pay up!" Old Master Tang interrupted his son, saying confidently, "This time, I didn't let your fifth sister know about it, and I didn't let her get involved. As long as our family doesn't say a word, who would know that the fortune teller was hired by our family!"

Tang Youliang couldn't understand it at all. "Dad, why do you always make trouble for Erzhuang's eldest daughter? In the countryside, an unmarried girl is being spread those kinds of dirty rumors. It could even lead to someone's death!"

"Why else? Of course, it's for your fifth sister's second daughter!"

"Erniu is already married and has two children, the older one is five years old. Erzhuang's eldest daughter has nothing to do with Erniu."

"What do you know? The fortune teller said that Yinhua is destined to be a mistress, that she's immoral and will steal Erniu's man. I'm Erniu's maternal grandfather, how can I not care?" Old Master Tang said as if it were the truth.

Tang Youliang: "Dad, didn't we come up with this word during our family meeting tonight?"
