Chapter 108 Lu Manman

Following the address, Zhou Hongyu found the office that Director Ning had mentioned at the corner on the second floor.

A knock was made on the door, and a clear female voice came from inside the office.

"Enter--"

Zhou Hongyu pushed open the door and entered.

She had never met Director Ning's daughter before, so she figured the young woman working in the office must be her.

Seeing that the young woman was busy with her work and didn't even look up, Zhou Hongyu took the initiative to say, "Director Ning asked me to come and help you with your work."

Lu Manman buried herself in her work, her expression unchanged, and then raised her hand to put down the tasks that needed to be done.

You take care of these!

The tone of her voice was very impolite, but Zhou Hongyu didn't say much because she was focused on her work.

After taking the task, I glanced at it first; it wasn't too difficult.

So, she finished writing a short report in about ten minutes.

Zhou Hongyu capped the pen, stood up, slung her bag over her shoulder, and looked down at the girl on the other side who was engrossed in her work.

"I'm done. You can handle the rest yourself. I'm leaving."

Zhou Hongyu wouldn't force herself to endure hardship. Once the work assigned to her was completed, she wouldn't stay to do manual labor for Director Ning's daughter, waiting to finish the work before leaving, even though it seemed like several days' worth of work.

She still had her own things to do, and she needed to find Director Ning to introduce her to a teacher.

As for if Director Ning dislikes that she didn't stay to do hard labor and refuses to help, that's fine too; they can find someone else.

Lu Manman was engrossed in her work when she suddenly heard someone talking next to her, and she realized that there was someone else in the office at some point.

His mind was racing, but his face remained cold and indifferent, even looking a bit fierce.

Lu Manman ignored Zhou Hongyu, who was about to leave, and got up to pick up the report on the table and start reading.

His eyes widened slightly.

This person is incredibly efficient!

Compared to Ning Huilan, she's worlds apart!

"Wait a minute!"

Zhou Hongyu had just opened the door when someone behind her called out to her. She frowned. "You'd better not think about making me stay and help you finish your work!"

Just think about it; there's no way she'd agree!

Zhou Hongyu turned her head, ready to give her a hard time, but Lu Manman saw her face clearly and immediately let out a surprised scream.

"Sister Zhou, it's me, Lu Manman—"

Meanwhile, Director Ning finally escaped his daughter's clutches and set off from his office to try and prevent a major battle from taking place.

Ning Huilan harbored some secret thoughts. She still didn't want Director Ning to go so quickly. It would be best to wait until things got out of hand and both sides were badly injured before she went over!

Ning Huilan ran out of the office, grabbed Director Ning's arm, and said in a coquettish tone, "Dad, if there's anything going on, it's their business. Just wait until they've finished arguing before you go over!"

Director Ning was at his wits' end. He was hoping that Zhou Hongyu's arrival would curb Lu Manman's arrogance and teach her to be humble.

But now that the two are about to fight, he can no longer sit still.

"Huilan, don't be ridiculous. If something really happens to the cultural center, the Lu family will hold me accountable, and even your father, the director, won't escape. Think about it yourself, do you think you can live peacefully under Lu Manman without me?"

Ning Huilan's hand trembled, and she said fearfully, "Dad, can you please not talk so frighteningly? People can really scare each other to death!"

Lu Manman, the female demon of the cultural center.

She has a bad temper and extremely high expectations.

She not only has extremely high standards for herself, but she also can't stand seeing people in her workplace being perfunctory in their work, treating men like nuclear-powered donkeys and women like men.

My head may be severed, my blood may flow, but I will never bow my head; I will bleed and sweat, but I will never shed tears!

Director Ning and his daughter rushed over, but as they approached the office door, they heard bursts of laughter coming from inside. The two of them froze on the spot.

What's going on?

Zhou Hongyu and Lu Manman get along so well!

At this moment, in the office, Lu Manman affectionately held Zhou Hongyu's arm and reminisced about the past.

"...Sister Zhou, I was playing around and went ice skating on the lake when it wasn't frozen. I almost drowned, but you saved me!"

Zhou Hongyu covered her mouth and laughed: "What do you mean? You were just lucky that day. It just so happened that my husband and I were arguing and I took my eldest daughter for a walk by the lake in the dead of winter."

Zhou Hongyu vividly remembers that in the first few years of her marriage, she had one child after another, while her husband Chang Xingwang, who should have shared the family responsibilities with her, was nowhere to be seen except for coming back once a year to plant seeds.

The day she rescued Lu Manman, she forgot what had caused her to have a big argument with Chang Xingwang, who was preparing to go back to work. She took Shuying, who was still a child, to take a walk by the lake.

After she rescued Lu Manman and took her to the hospital, she returned home but had no news of her. She then heard that Lu Manman had gone to the Chang family's house by the lake and almost thought that Lu Manman had committed suicide by jumping into the river with her daughter.

In short, chaos reigned at home once again.

Because of the life-saving grace she had once received, Lu Manman and Zhou Hongyu had a good relationship. However, after Lu Manman transferred to her maternal grandmother's house for junior high school, communication became difficult, and they lost touch.

As girls change a lot as they grow up, Zhou Hongyu didn't recognize her at first glance.

...

The two were chatting and laughing in the office, and seemed to have a good relationship.

Ning Huilan's expression was complicated. She pointed with her finger and said, "Dad, are you sure you want to call Zhou Hongyu to help me?"

This is definitely not Lu Manman's friend!

Although Ning Huilan didn't think Lu Manman would have any friends—she was cold-hearted and had many flaws—the atmosphere in the office was really unusual!

Director Ning, however, was thinking about something else entirely. When he was choosing an opponent for Lu Manman, he picked Zhou Hongyu, who was of equal strength, thinking that at least the opponent wouldn't be beaten into a rout.

But the current situation looks like Lu Manman and Zhou Hongyu have teamed up to turn around and cause him trouble!
