Chapter 146 Zhang Guifen Disappears

Zhou Hongyu was taken aback when she learned that Xianglan was leaving home.

"Xianglan, what's wrong? Are you not comfortable staying at home? Or do you have other plans?"

Zhou Hongyu knew that Xianglan had long been homeless. She had been left destitute on the streets and couldn't get enough to eat, which was why Old Man Chang took pity on her and took her in.

Xianglan didn't want to leave, but she was afraid of bringing trouble to the Chang family. She also didn't understand why the inspector was chasing her!

She was clearly just a helpless orphan.

After being captured, she found a chance to escape. During that escape, she lost her last support: her home and the belongings left to her by her grandparents.

She left her hometown and dared not return. She went to the capital to seek refuge with relatives, but to no avail. She ended up on the streets but dared not contact her fellow villagers, fearing that the people who had arrested her were still looking for her.

Xianglan still can't understand why she had such a fate. Her family was kind to everyone, and her grandfather had even saved someone in a heroic act, yet Xianglan didn't get the reward she was told.

They lived a life of constant displacement and fear.

"Xianglan, are you alright?"

Seeing that Xianglan, who was usually so strong, seemed dazed, Zhou Hongyu couldn't help but feel worried.

Although she was only about the same age as Shuying, she had already suffered hardships that most people could not imagine.

As the saying goes, "No pain, no gain," but I wonder if this applies to Xianglan.

Xianglan was taken aback by the sudden concern.

Xianglan knew very well that her experience was terrible, and she was not the kind of person who liked to use her tragic experiences to gain sympathy, but she still couldn't help but tear up when she heard such concern.

Xianglan opened her heart and told Zhou Hongyu everything.

Zhou Hongyu looked surprised after hearing this. Xianglan had such a rich experience at such a young age. She was truly a remarkable person!

Even so, Xianglan still maintains a positive attitude towards life, which is truly rare. She thinks that if Xianglan grows up, she will surely make a name for herself.

Even before Xianglan revealed her magical experiences, Zhou Hongyu had already begun to consider grooming Xianglan to be her third-in-command.

The other two are Chen Zhaodi and Zhou Bing.

These ideas have now been overturned.

If what Xianglan said is true, then Xianglan's continued stay in the capital becomes a big problem.

Zhou Hongyu had no support in the capital and could not help.

Zhou Hongyu suggested, "Xianglan, if you just plan to leave the capital and get away from those guys, how about I pick out a few places for you? I have people there who can offer you some help!"

However, although Shanghai is a good city, it is not under consideration. First, her sister-in-law is not easy to get along with, and second, Zhou Hongyu's relationship with her brother's children is not good, so they are not easy to order around.

Therefore, Xianglan had two choices: the provincial capital in the Northwest where her second sister lived, and Guangdong Province where her second brother lived.

Zhou Hongyu told Xianglan about the two places she could choose from.

Xianglan hesitated after hearing this. Deep down, she was still reluctant to leave the capital and the kind-hearted Grandpa Chang who had taken her in.

She said with difficulty, "Sister Zhou, let me think about it some more, and I'll give you an answer before tonight!"

Zhou Hongyu noticed her reluctance and comforted her, "Don't rush, you're tired from working hard today. Think it over and give me your answer tomorrow!"

Zhou Hongyu suddenly smiled: "Did you see those reporters from the hospital today? If they manage to get the entire Inspectorate arrested, then most of your troubles will be solved!"

"Sister Zhou, it's unlikely that everyone will go in."

Xianglan forced a smile. There wasn't even a one in a thousand chance. No matter how powerful those reporters were, the Inspectorate was still the official body, and in the end, they would only suffer a minor setback.

Send all the people from the Inspectorate who came that day inside.

Xianglan didn't even dare to think about it.

Zhang Guifen and her youngest son, Zhang Dabao, came out of Shuangdong Hutong and were soon followed by people who were watching them on the street.

Zhang Dabao walked down the street and passed a small restaurant, where he started fussing about wanting to eat.

Zhang Guifen wanted to spoil her youngest son rotten. She took Zhang Dabao into a small restaurant without stopping, and the people who had followed her all the way followed closely behind into the restaurant.

Zhang Guifen was completely unaware of anything amiss. She took the menu and ordered food without noticing anything wrong.

It was lunchtime, and the proprietress arranged for Zhang Guifen to share a table with a middle-aged man who looked peaceful.

Meanwhile, the group that had been following her sat down in a corner.

After Zhang Guifen finished ordering, Zhang Dabao was chatting and laughing with a middle-aged man. Zhang Guifen glared at him and then reached out to hug her youngest son.

Could this be some kind of human trafficker?

Before long, the stir-fried prawns ordered by the middle-aged man were served. Zhang Dabao's mouth watered, and he wished he could break free from Zhang Guifen's grasp and pounce on them. Even Zhang Guifen couldn't help but swallow her saliva.

What's with the show of wealth? If you have money, just take it home and hide it away to eat!

Before Zhang Guifen could launch into a veiled attack, the middle-aged man laughed and said, "Sister, if the child wants to eat, let him eat. These are all brought out of the kitchen by the restaurant staff, so you can rest assured."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Guifen immediately stopped being polite and threw down her chopsticks to grab the food with her hands.

The mother and son wolfed down their food, while the middle-aged man ate the peanuts that were served from behind, watching them with a smile.

After Zhang Guifen finished eating and drinking, she wiped her mouth and didn't think anything of it. She just assumed that the man especially cherished her youngest son, since he was a precious baby from birth.

The middle-aged man picked up a peanut and popped it into his mouth: "Ma'am, are you traveling far away with your child all by yourself?"

"What's wrong!" Zhang Guifen realized something was amiss and her vigilance immediately rose.

The middle-aged man said slowly, "Ma'am, didn't you know you were being followed? Look, in the corner to your northeast, do you remember that group of people?"
