"Dad!" Zhou Hongyu woke up with a start; it was pitch black outside the window.
She sat blankly on the hospital bed, wiping her face in despair. This time, she had been through a whole day of trouble, and it seemed that her discharge date was going to be even further away.
While waiting for hot water in the boiler room, Granny Zhou heard a nurse say that there was a commotion coming from the ward, so she hurriedly ran back with an empty bottle.
"Red Jade!"
"mom!"
Zhou Hongyu couldn't help but shed tears when she saw Granny Zhou suddenly appear at the door of the ward.
This is her mother, who always appears just when she needs her.
Granny Zhou put down the empty bottle and reached out to hug her daughter tightly.
Zhou Hongyu wiped away her tears, her eyes clearer than ever before. She confessed, "Mom, I remembered something before. I was the child you picked up outside..."
"Don't say that! In my heart, you're all the same!"
Granny Zhou scolded her sternly. From the day she decided to adopt Xiao Hongyu, she treated Xiao Hongyu as her own child. Moreover, because of the days and months of getting along, she regarded Xiao Hongyu as her most beloved child.
"Mom, what would I do without you!" Zhou Hongyu cried sadly.
Thinking of Lin Yiyi's neglect of her, she couldn't help but shed tears.
That's how it was before, and that's how it is now.
The thought of Lin Yiyi choosing to leave from just a door away, ultimately giving up on seeing her for various reasons, made her feel incredibly distressed.
Granny Zhou hugged her tightly: "Hongyu, don't be sad, Mom will always be with you!"
"mom--"
"I've bought dinner. Is Hongyu awake yet...?"
Chef Qiao pushed open the door and entered, immediately silencing himself.
Zhou Hongyu looked up from Granny Zhou and saw that the familiar face in her memory looked even older.
Zhou Hongyu cried out, her voice trembling with tears, "Dad, why did you only come now!"
"I, I, I..." Chef Qiao's composure vanished at this moment.
His daughter regained her memory and finally realized that he was her father!
"Sigh!" Granny Zhou sighed, got up and sat down, pulling the stiff-bodied Chef Qiao to the bedside.
"You two talk for a bit, I'm going to the boiler room to wait for hot water!"
Zhou Hongyu looked at Granny Zhou with tears in her eyes, "Mom..."
Granny Zhou gently shook her head: "Hongyu, this is your biological father. You need to be brave. Several decades have passed since you went missing. You are now a mother of four children and will soon be a grandmother. We don't have many years left to live, so don't have too many worries!"
Granny Zhou dispelled her last worry and promised, "You don't need to worry about your older brother and sister. We will always stand behind you and support you!"
Zhou Hongyu nodded vigorously; she understood!
Granny Zhou considerately withdrew from the ward, giving the father and daughter space to speak without restraint.
Zhou Hongyu held Chef Qiao's hand and suddenly burst into tears.
"Dad, I've been waiting for you for so long!"
All the unspoken words turned into a series of aggrieved accusations at the moment of reunion.
Chef Qiao said with a pained expression, "It's because Dad is late!"
Zhou Hongyu wiped away her tears: "Since you left home, Honghong has been working like crazy, and I haven't seen her at all. When Zhang Ma got sick, Honghong took Zhang Ma to the hospital for treatment, and Na took over taking care of me!"
“I was bullied by my cousins at home and no one cared. Even though it was my cousins who were bullying me, Cheng Na always sided with them. Hong Hong just told me not to be timid and afraid of trouble, and that they were all bullying me!”
“My dad didn’t even come back for my birthday. Honghong got angry and wanted to send me back to my dad’s hometown. Chengna took me there. Chengna was having an affair with a cousin in the village. She wouldn’t give me food and even pinched me. I was so hungry that I ran outside to find something to eat, and then I couldn’t find my way home!”
Chef Qiao was heartbroken and couldn't breathe. He cried out in grief and indignation, "It's all Dad's fault!"
He was young and impetuous at the time, and under the instigation of the Lin family, he became obsessed with proving his abilities as soon as possible.
This proves that their family can live a happy life.
However, this was exactly what the Lin family wanted. In those chaotic and turbulent times, their beloved daughter was eventually lost due to negligence.
He and Lin Yiyi, who should have been by their daughter's side, were absent for various reasons.
The father and daughter hugged each other and wept bitterly, without saying much about Lin Yiyi, the woman who played a complex role in their lives.
As she listened to the crying coming from the ward, Granny Zhou quietly wiped away her tears.
She carried the empty bottle downstairs to call her second son, who was far away in Guangdong Province, to inform him that Hongyu had found her biological father.
Zhou Zhongliang was still at work, casually answering a call from his hometown while working. Upon hearing this, he immediately perked up.
Zhou Zhongliang exclaimed in surprise, "Mom, I never imagined that Chef Qiao would be Hongyu's biological father. Chef Qiao is an extremely capable person. I was a little worried that he would stay, but it turns out that this is the truth. He and Hongyu... Sigh, what a cruel twist of fate!"
Only after becoming parents can one understand this feeling. In the past, Zhou Zhongliang and his wife would leave their child with Chef Qiao to take care of, while they devoted themselves to their work. They didn't feel anything even if they didn't see each other for half a month.
Chef Qiao took his child to Beijing, and even after only a day or two, images of his child kept popping into his mind.
Shen Keyi had originally said she would go to the capital to pick up her child in a month or two, but now she changed her mind and was focused on dealing with the Shen family's affairs as soon as possible before heading to the capital to pick up her son.
Zhou Zhongliang thought of his younger sister's relationship with his elderly mother and comforted her, "Mom, Hongyu is so lucky to have found her biological father after going through so much trouble. We, as her family, should be happy for her. Don't feel too much pressure!"
