Chen Zhaodi was furious. She had been grateful to Director He for letting her earn more money, but he was such a wicked person!
"It's not like I made her niece redo the work!"
"That's not the whole reason!"
My colleague glared at me and said, "That stupid rule the factory came up with has cut off so many people's opportunities. From now on, everyone has to come to work in person, or they'll be fired. Everyone here has connections. Asking them to do their jobs properly is worse than killing them. It's also slowing down our progress!"
The last sentence is the key point.
Due to a significant drop in work efficiency, Director He received a reprimand from his superiors.
Director He couldn't blame it on connections; he just pinned it on Chen Zhaodi, who had recently taken a few days off to go back and take care of her patient.
After explaining the reasons, her colleague turned to Chen Zhaodi and advised her: "She's smart, educated, and has connections. Her older brother is in charge of the union, so she might get promoted in the future. You've been tightening screws for decades, and that's all you'll ever be. If you go against her, you'll be constantly bullied until you retire. Can you handle that?"
It's not like I'm just saying this for no reason. The work that's been delayed is still there. If Chen Zhaodi, the old workhorse in the workshop, quits, everyone will get a share. Who would be happy about that?
Chen Zhaodi gritted her teeth: "Let her find whoever she wants to do it with. I'll leave work on time. Let her make things difficult for me if she wants. Who's afraid of who!"
"Zhao Di, are you really going to do this?"
"hundred percent!"
Making a few dozen yuan a month, what a show of power! Acting like an old nanny in the old society who manages a bunch of maids and servants.
On the way here, Zhou Hongyu said that she would receive a total of more than two thousand yuan, including the capital she had invested.
She thinks she can risk her life for a monthly salary of just a few dozen yuan? Who does she think she is!
Seeing Chen Zhaodi's "I'll do it if I say I'll do it" expression, her colleague suspected that she was bragging, because Chen Zhaodi used to be very obedient.
At lunchtime, as the workday ended, Chen Zhaodi rushed to the cafeteria with her lunchbox without stopping.
Director He is disgusting; she needs to eat something good to make up for it.
At this point, she was willing to spend money, after all, she was a woman who could earn more than a thousand yuan in five days!
Seeing Chen Zhaodi run out of the workshop first, Director He was furious.
If Chen Zhaodi doesn't stay and work against the clock, who will finish the work that was delayed by those with connections?
After Director He finished giving instructions to Chen Zhaodi in the morning, he immediately told the people with connections to relax and that the workload that had been delayed today would be doubled!
When Chen Zhaodi returned after lunch, she was greeted by a furious Director He.
"Chen Zhaodi! Who do you think you are! You think you can just refuse to do the work that was assigned to you!" Director He slammed his fist on the table.
"After all this talk, are you planning to give me a few hundred yuan a month as a subsidy?" Chen Zhaodi retorted defiantly.
She worked for Zhou Hongyu, earning over a thousand yuan in five days. The work was easy; she mostly just talked to customers.
I was still thinking she'd work her life away like before, but could she afford the money?
"You!" Director He felt a tightness in his chest and shortness of breath.
With a monthly subsidy of several hundred yuan, Chen Zhaodi must be obsessed with money.
Director He clutched his chest and stormed off in anger.
A colleague complained, "Chen Zhaodi, if you don't help share the workload, then we'll have to do all of this!"
Chen Zhaodi is capable of doing the work of three people. If people knew that Chen Zhaodi wouldn't help share the burden, who would want to take advantage of her?
No matter how many colleagues who had some influence tried to persuade her, Chen Zhaodi remained unmoved.
She knew exactly how much money she was paid to do the job.
Several colleagues, seeing that they couldn't persuade her, also got angry with her: "Chen Zhaodi, you can't be like this! With so much work, you'll kill us with exhaustion!"
Before Chen Zhaodi could respond, several colleagues left after saying their piece.
Chen Zhaodi's days of isolation in the workshop officially began.
After getting off work, Chen Zhaodi realized, a beat too late, that she was being ostracized.
She was completely baffled; she hadn't taken advantage of anyone.
After spending these days together, Chen Zhaodi habitually wanted to ask Zhou Hongyu for help whenever there was an emergency.
When they got home, Granny Chang told Chen Zhaodi that Zhou Hongyu was working overtime that night to entertain visiting leaders from out of town and wouldn't be coming back.
Chen Zhaodi said anxiously, "Mom, is the work meal any good? When Hongbing was sent to support other places, he said the work meal was terrible. Why don't you cook something and I'll send it to Zhou Hongyu!"
Granny Chang grinned: "Hongyu doesn't eat the work meals. The leaders from out of town are of high rank, so she accompanies them to the hotel, where they eat and stay!"
Chen Zhaodi's mouth dropped open. Are cadres really that well-treated?
If she had known this would happen, she wouldn't have persisted in tightening screws for decades.
She and the Chen family felt they had gotten a great deal with this job; it didn't require much effort, they could just focus on tightening screws, and the monthly salary was high.
Looking back now, I realize I wasted a lot of money. Although the cadres' salaries weren't high, their benefits were genuinely good.
Despite being envied by others, Zhou Hongyu did not get to stay in a hotel because of her superiors' influence.
Instead, he accompanied Comrade Zhao Daniu, a leader who was unwilling to spend money on extravagance, to stay in a somewhat dilapidated guesthouse in Beijing.
After completing the check-in procedures, Zhou Hongyu led Comrade Zhao Daniu and several accompanying personnel upstairs, under the scrutinizing gazes of the reception staff, who treated her like a criminal.
Comrade Zhao Daniu had bad knees and struggled to climb the stairs while holding onto the railing. He sighed, "I haven't been here for a few years, and the capital has undergone tremendous changes. I was right to come this time. But this guesthouse looks increasingly dilapidated. It used to be so bustling and impressive here!"
The dilapidated staircase creaks as people walk on it.
When facing acquaintances, Zhou Hongyu was not polite at all: "I told you from the beginning that we should stay at the newly opened hotel nearby. It has an elevator and offers discounts. The cost is about the same as staying here. But you insisted on coming here!"
