Chapter 462 Zhoujia Village

Old Man Chang led two children out of the room. Before anyone realized what had happened, they continued chatting.

Old Man Chang couldn't stand listening to their conversation for long and was eager to go to Zhoujia Village.

Everyone knew why he was in such a hurry, and Chang Hongbing, the dutiful son, stopped talking and let him have his way.

Without saying a word, Old Man Chang went out, and Chang Hongbing quickly followed behind him.

"Dad? Dad, wait for me!"

Qiao Sirui said enviously, "Grandpa cares about Meiying in a very special way!"

Chang Pengfei nodded in agreement: "Yes, in Grandpa's heart, none of us grandsons, including Rihui, are as important as Meiying!"

Qiao Sirui felt inexplicably nervous. The elders of the Chang family were not following the usual pattern and actually valued one of their granddaughters the most. She was worried that Chang Hongbing and his wife would follow suit.

In that case...

As they went downstairs, Qiao Sirui tentatively asked Chen Zhaodi when she would be able to go home.

"Haha, Auntie? I don't know..." Chang Pengfei's smile faltered, but he dared not tell her the truth, because by the time he and his mother returned after summer vacation, Auntie would still be gone.

Qiao Sirui was disappointed. This was a rare opportunity to ask her mother-in-law when she would be coming home, but she didn't get the answer she wanted.

Ask your father-in-law?

Qiao Sirui shook her head silently. Her father-in-law was so quiet that she couldn't say a word. If she asked her mother-in-law when she was coming home, she wondered if her father-in-law would just repeat what she said to her mother-in-law, and her mother-in-law might misunderstand her meaning.

If your father-in-law is home, why does he have to keep asking your mother-in-law when she's not home, unless he comes back with a specific purpose?

My father-in-law can stay home!

Chen Zhaodi: What do you mean by misunderstanding? That's exactly what you mean! You want money!

Zhoujia Village has changed a lot, with high-rise buildings standing tall and filled with a modern atmosphere.

In the 1980s, this area was full of farmland, and people were busy in the fields. Everyone in the village, except for the elderly, the weak, the sick, and the disabled, was always busy. Now, the strong young men are leisurely strolling around, and they can support their whole family every year with the rent.

Qiao Sirui held Enen in her arms, gazing intently at the scenery outside the window.

The last time she came to Zhoujia Village, it wasn't like this at all; the changes are shocking.

Upon arriving at their destination, before the car had even come to a complete stop, Old Man Chang rushed out and hurriedly went into the yard to find his most beloved granddaughter, Mei Ying.

Seeing his wild demeanor, Chang Hongbing was so frightened that he chased after him, shouting and yelling.

"Dad, slow down, no rush—"

Granny Chang and Granny Zhou were listening to a play in the room when they vaguely heard Old Man Chang's voice. Granny Chang murmured, "The old man has come looking for us?"

Granny Zhou pursed her lips, picked up a feather duster, and angrily hit him a few times: "He dares to come? I'll beat him to death!"

Granny Zhou and her late husband, Old Master Zhou, were deeply in love. She despised selfish people like Old Man Chang. During the time when Old Man Chang was making a fuss about getting a divorce and remarrying, she publicly said that she would beat him every time she saw him.

No sooner had he finished speaking than Old Man Chang rushed into the room with a beaming smile: "Mei Ying?"

Granny Zhou raised her hand and swung the feather duster at it.

Chang Hongbing, who was following closely behind Old Man Chang, immediately stepped in front of him, exclaiming in alarm, "Auntie!"

Granny Zhou angrily withdrew her hand, glaring disdainfully at Old Man Chang. Old Man Chang, however, was completely unconcerned. What was the purpose of his visit today?

See the US and UK!

Old Man Chang calmly found a seat and sat down. Old Woman Chang smiled at him and said, "You've come at an inopportune time. Mei Ying has been busy all day!"

Old Man Chang's face contorted with rage: I'm furious!

Granny Zhou felt inexplicably irritated whenever she saw Old Man Chang. She stopped listening to the play, turned around, and went out to get some fresh air.

Chang Hongbing felt awkward, so he sat down between his parents and started chatting with his mother, whom he hadn't seen in a while: "Mom, are you comfortable staying at my second brother's house? We'll come pick you up once Zhaodi has finished dealing with her affairs..."

He had a lot to say to Granny Chang. He shared the same feelings as Chen Zhaodi, and was deluding himself.

Grandma Chang smiled broadly, her face beaming with happiness: "Don't worry, I'm very comfortable here, and I see Meiying often!"

Old Man Chang was deeply provoked. He felt that he was much smarter than his wife, and that he would never be a coward like her!

Old Man Chang snapped at Chang Hongbing, "What are you doing here? This is none of your business! Get out!"

They kicked the people out.

Old Man Chang stared at the smiling Old Woman Chang with displeasure, and asked again, "Do you see Mei Ying often when you live at the second son's house?"

He was jealous!

Granny Chang smiled and nodded, then asked, "Why can't you see it?"

Old Man Chang was furious. "Nonsense, of course I won't see him!"

Old Chang gritted his teeth and pondered how he could see Mei and Ying more often.

He misses his little granddaughter—

The heartless Zhou Hongyu!

And then there's Granny Zhou, who loves to meddle in other people's business!

As soon as she entered the house, Qiao Sirui used the excuse of helping with chores to hide in the kitchen.

Hearing Zhou Pozi's voice coming from the room, she was terrified. Why was her second aunt's mother here?

Granny Zhou has a keen eye that can see through people's hearts, and Qiao Sirui has been afraid of running into Granny Zhou ever since she did something shameful.

The moment she saw Granny Zhou, her secret was exposed.

Qiao Sirui and Zhou Laohan's wife were working in the kitchen. Zhou Laohan's wife moved back to the village, and she became his shadow again, following him everywhere. In her own words, she was so bored that she just wanted to stay with Zhou Laohan's wife.

This time, Granny Chang was taken to Zhou Hongyu's home to be cared for. Usually, when she needed someone to come and help, Zhou Laohan's wife would volunteer to take on the task.

Old Zhou's wife kneaded the dough and grumbled, "...If you ask me, this job is pretty good. It's all family, so it's easy to talk to them. It's not tiring, and there's money to be made. I can even bring my eldest granddaughter's children to work with me, so my poor granddaughter doesn't have to worry about the children while she's at work!"

Zhou Laohan's wife was talking excitedly when she turned her head and saw Qiao Sirui looking distracted. She was being nosy.

"Yaozu's daughter-in-law, what are you thinking? Speaking of which, you three have been living in another city for so long, haven't your parents-in-law been urging you to move back? Old people like you all long for their eldest grandson to be around and keep them company!"

Qiao Sirui snapped out of her daze, her panic making her look like she was trying to cover something up: "I wasn't thinking about anything! Auntie was asking about moving back? I haven't decided yet! I listen to Enen's dad, and if he wants to move back, I have no objection..."

Nobody listens to her anyway, sigh!

Like someone who's just eaten melon seeds, Zhou Laohan's wife kept pestering Qiao Sirui with questions, leaving Qiao Sirui exhausted.

Just as she was about to give up, she heard Enen calling her from the courtyard.

Qiao Sirui ran quickly: "Auntie, Enen is calling me!"

Zhou Laohan's wife shook her head: "...Chen Zhaodi, this daughter-in-law, doesn't like to tell the truth!"
