Chapter 5 The Eldest Son and Wife's Little Thoughts

Seeing her confident demeanor, Old Man Chang hesitated to speak.

The second son's wife's plan was nothing short of a pipe dream; it was obvious that the eldest son and his wife wouldn't lend money!

The eldest son might be soft-hearted and lend money, but his wife, Chen Zhaodi, is obsessed with money and would rather risk divorce than lend a single penny.

These two sisters-in-law often bicker over trivial matters, making them practically mortal enemies, and they even lent each other money...

The commotion caused by the second wife these days is probably something Chen Zhaodi is laughing at every day from under the covers.

Late at night, Chang Hongbing and Chen Zhaodi returned from their night shift.

After quickly wiping themselves with warm water, the two exhausted individuals immediately crawled into bed.

Chen Zhaodi was exhausted and sleepy, but the thought of Zhou Hongyu causing such a commotion because of her future daughter-in-law made her overjoyed.

"Zhao Di, I have something to tell you..."

“Speak! But turn off the lights first. Zhou Hongyu brings this up every time we argue. I’m keeping an eye on her to see what she’ll say next!”

Zhou Hongyu and Chen Zhaodi are both stubborn and insist on having solid evidence every time they argue.

Both of them have their flaws, so they always end up arguing.

Chang Hongbing didn't move, coughed a few times, and said, "How about we lend money to my second brother's family so that Pengfei can get married smoothly?"

"Chang Hongbing, you've gone mad!"

Chen Zhaodi thought he was deaf again and hadn't heard her, so she reached out to turn off the light. When she heard this, she almost fell off the bed.

"Zhou Hongyu wants to use my money to marry off his daughter-in-law? To hell with his ancestors! If you don't have money, don't mess with college students!"

College students.

It was a thorn deeply embedded in their hearts.

Their eldest son, Chang Yaozu, the eldest grandson of the Chang family, became obsessed with the college entrance examination after failing it, and this year marks his fourth year of retaking it.

Chang Hongbing held down the angry Chen Zhaodi: "Keep your voice down!"

"I'll keep it down! Don't even think about it! Zhou Hongyu has the nerve to mention it but not the nerve to let anyone know. I'm telling you, we'll make sure the whole world knows!"

"Zhao Di, calm down. I'm doing this all for my son's sake!"

Chen Zhaodi was even angrier: "You even cursed my son to never get into university in his life. Even if he doesn't get in, even if he doesn't get married and have children, I don't care about Zhou Hongyu's grandson!"

Chang Hongbing hurriedly explained, "What are you thinking? You're even bringing up your grandson. I wanted you to think about Yaozu's college entrance exam. And think about who in our family has the best chance of getting into college?"

Chen Zhaodi's face darkened: "Who else could it be but that son of a bitch Chang Rihui!"

Zhou Hongyu's second son is a high school sophomore at a national key high school and a well-known child prodigy.

Chang Rihui was a troublemaker, skipped classes and broke the rules, but that didn't stop him from always getting first place in his exams. As a second-year high school student, he could easily pass the college entrance exam.

Chen Zhaodi hated this the most.

Although she didn't get along with Zhou Hongyu before, she didn't want to cause trouble, as arguing with Zhou Hongyu would only delay her from going to work and earning more money.

When her eldest son failed his college entrance exam for the first time, something terrible happened.

Looking at Zhou Hongyu's abusive and wasteful son, she wished she could sharpen a knife in the middle of the night and kill Chang Rihui to supplement her eldest son's brain.

Of course, this is just wishful thinking.

She would never let her precious eldest son have a mother who had committed a crime.

Chen Zhaodi scorned Chang Hongbing's self-righteous cleverness: "You still want Chang Rihui to take the exam for you? That's killing people! If Yaozu is found out, his life is over. Don't even think about it!"

Chang Hongbing was exhausted. He knew that the two of them had slept in the same bed for most of their lives but had nothing in common. Why could they never seem to find common ground?

"What I mean is, let Rihui tutor Yaozu!"

"Tutoring?"

This idea opened a new world for Chen Zhaodi, and hope seemed to be right in front of her.

She quickly realized this wouldn't work: "Chang Rihui is so arrogant, he doesn't listen to anyone, and he always goes against Zhou Hongyu. This is unreliable!"

Chen Zhaodi warned seriously: "Just because he learns well doesn't mean he's a good teacher. Maybe he'll start scolding Yaozu for being brainless while teaching him. If Yaozu can't take it and can't think straight, he'll be finished!"

Chang Yaozu was obsessed with the college entrance examination. He failed, repeated the year, and kept repeating the cycle. He didn't know when it would end.

No one in the family dared to mention it.

Even when Zhou Hongyu and Chen Zhaodi are arguing, she won't be so shameless as to say such things.

Normally, bickering is just minor squabbles, but talking about these things is like risking your ancestors' lives to make enemies.

Chang Hongbing remained silent for a while, then lit a cigarette and said, "I'm more worried about failing the exam this time. Yaozu won't be able to handle it!"

Chen Zhaodi remained silent.

Chang Yaozu threw himself into the college entrance examination and became taciturn, which caused a lot of gossip among his neighbors, relatives and colleagues.

Everyone was convinced that her son had gone mad, and they urged her to quickly pray to gods and Buddhas and seek medical help everywhere to cure him, otherwise no girl would want to marry him and his life would be ruined.

Chen Zhaodi and Chang Hongbing were also afraid, and they argued with their eldest son several times but still couldn't get what they wanted.

There are also dissenting voices in the family.

In the end, they had no choice but to go with Chang Yaozu.

Many people in the Chang family disagreed with this view.

Their youngest daughter, Chang Huaying, felt that it was right to strive to get into university. Chang Huaying had good grades in school, but she was forced to attend a vocational school and start working so that she could quickly find a good family to marry into at the right age.

The elderly couple in the Chang family doted on their grandson, believing that whatever he did was right.

Zhou Hongyu, on the other hand, loved to contradict Chen Zhaodi. If Chen Zhaodi was wrong, Zhou Hongyu had to agree with her.

When Chang Xingwang, who was working far away, found out about this, he was very supportive and wrote back to encourage Chang Yaozu, along with a hundred yuan.

The younger siblings grew up listening to their eldest brother, so of course they did whatever their eldest brother said.

The only people who supported them were the third son and his wife, but in that situation, they weren't very important.

Almost everyone disagreed, and Chen Zhaodi was furious. She even used the hundred yuan to sow discord between the second son and his wife, which led Zhou Hongyu to write ten letters to curse them in a week.

After a long silence, Chen Zhaodi slowly said, "We need to think about this further. This amount of money is our life savings. If lending it out can ease our worries, I would be more than willing. I'm just afraid that if the money is gone, it won't even scratch the itch."

Of the three brothers, the second brother, Chang Xingwang, came from the poorest family. Chang Xingwang worked away from home for many years. Although his salary was high, Zhou Hongyu was unreliable, lazy, and had changed jobs four or five times, never staying in any of them for long.

Zhou Hongyu has long since given up on this job, and the Chang family elders are keeping an eye on her to prevent her from messing around.

With the second wife's children about to grow up, they will need money for marriage, education, and career development. Having more income will give them more peace of mind.

Chen Zhaodi couldn't guess what Zhou Hongyu's arrogant future in-laws would want in order to be satisfied. If they insisted on buying a particularly nice house, then the money they had lent out wouldn't be enough, and Zhou Hongyu would have to borrow from others.

With so many loans being taken out, the chances of the second wife being able to pay off the debt in her lifetime are extremely slim.

"Go to sleep first. Nobody's going to be so eager to borrow money!"

Chang Hongbing turned off the light, and Chen Zhaodi turned over and closed her eyes.

Early in the morning, just as dawn was breaking, Chen Zhaodi woke up.

After finishing her night shift, she, who loved money more than anything, paid one yuan a day to cover half a day shift for her colleague.

I was exhausted and felt terrible. After washing up, I was full of resentment.

Why should she lend Zhou Hongyu her hard-earned money to help her get married? She absolutely refused!
