Finally, Chen Zhaodi managed to get a bowl of vegetable noodles and, while chatting with Zhou's sister-in-law, managed to stay a little longer to finish up the leftover soup and broth from the children.
As Zhou Hongyu left the dried goods store, she turned away from Chen Zhaodi with a look of disgust.
Chen Zhaodi, clutching her stomach and burping, defended herself: "A full stomach doesn't know the hunger of an empty one. I only ate one bowl of vegetable noodles. If I hadn't been cleaning up after these kids, I wouldn't have gotten any meat at all!"
There was something she didn't dare say: "You, Zhou Hongyu, are eating braised pork noodles!"
Zhou Hongyu bluntly exposed her: "You're lucky you even got a bowl of vegetable noodles, since you're just a freeloader. The neighbors who came later will share a bowl of vegetable noodles!"
Chen Zhaodi was rendered speechless by the rebuttal.
After Zhou's sister-in-law finished making the noodles, she first gave them to Zhou Hongyu, then to the children, and then to the rest of the family. Chen Zhaodi was helping in the kitchen, calculating that if she was the last to eat, she could find an excuse to take the extra braised meat.
Unexpectedly, the aroma of the noodles attracted a group of neighbors, including their children!
Chang Meiying made a shy face at her: "Auntie, you glutton!"
Chen Zhaodi raised her hand as if to scold her, and said, "You little brat, you ingrate! You asked Zhou Xiaoliu for a small bowl of braised pork noodles but couldn't finish it. Which bad person was there threatening you that you would be beaten if you didn't finish it? And which good person helped you finish it?"
Chang Meiying responded with a few hums.
Zhou Hongyu looked at me coldly, "Am I a bad person?"
"Mei-Ying, let's go!"
Remembering the things she hadn't finished, Chen Zhaodi immediately chased after them.
"Wait for me! I'll treat you to a meal at a restaurant tonight!"
