"Brother! Brother Qin Zheng!"
As soon as Gu Yingying saw Qin Zheng and the others come out, she immediately felt like she had found her pillar of support. With red eyes, she got up and stepped forward to complain about how Qin Xiang'e and Ye Yun had bullied her.
However, before she could speak, Gu Jin glared at her sternly.
Gu Jin pulled her to his side and scolded her in a low voice, "Gu Yingying, why do you talk so much? I can hear you making a racket in the yard even when I'm inside. Can't you just shut up for a bit?"
Gu Yingying was dumbfounded. She hadn't even complained yet, so why was she being scolded?
"Qin Zheng, we'll be leaving now."
Here, a middle-aged man and a few others said goodbye to Qin Zheng, who nodded in agreement and escorted them all the way to the gate of their courtyard.
Seeing this, Gu Jin quickly grabbed the still stunned Gu Yingying and put her on the sidewalk.
As the rickshaw's voice faded into the distance, Gu Jin and the others slowly disappeared from everyone's sight, and the small courtyard finally became quiet.
However, the atmosphere was somewhat heavy.
The atmosphere at home didn't improve much during dinner. The old lady didn't want to eat. The bowl was placed in front of her, but she didn't even lift her hand. She just stared blankly at the two broken bamboo poles.
Qin Zheng took the broken bamboo pole away and asked in confusion, "Why did Grandma's cane break?"
"Go ask your rotten peach blossoms!" Qin Xiang'e rolled her eyes at him irritably and slammed the bowl of rice she had just filled in in front of him.
Qin Zheng was completely bewildered. Why was he being scolded?
Ye Yun had a kind smile on her face. "Guess why Grandma's bamboo pole broke?"
Qin Zheng had a bad feeling.
“I won’t guess,” he said decisively. “I’ll go to the market tomorrow and buy a decent walking stick.”
He had long disliked that broken bamboo pole.
"Changing your cane is good, but I'm afraid that if you keep changing it, your wife will change too." Qin Xiang'e snorted again and slammed the bowl down.
Qin Zheng was stunned again.
Why are you scolding him again?
"Mother, please eat something. Our family might not be able to eat such good food again in the future..." Qin Xiang'e picked up the old lady's bowl and stuffed it into her hands.
The old lady snorted, her tone no better than Qin Xiang'e's.
Qin Zheng was confused. "Grandma, time to eat?"
The old woman slowly turned her head, her cloudy eyes seeming to glance at Qin Zheng, before slowly bending down to pick up the bamboo pole that had been thrown on the ground.
*Snap!* A bamboo pole struck Qin Zheng, making him tremble all over.
"Eat, eat your grandma's legs!" the old woman mumbled incoherently as she opened her mouth to curse.
Qin Zheng was completely dumbfounded.
Damn it! Why is everyone cursing him?!
The meal was quite unpleasant. After finishing the meal, as dusk was approaching, Ye Yun took advantage of the remaining light to wash up and hurriedly returned to her room.
Not long after, Qin Zheng finished washing up and returned to his room.
A kerosene lamp was lit in the room, and Ye Yun was sitting on the kang (a heated brick bed) spreading out her quilt. The lamplight cast her shadow on the wall covered with newspapers.
"Wife, I've taken a nice bath, smell me and see if I smell good!" Qin Zheng chuckled and got onto the kang (heated brick bed).
Ye Yun replied, "It smells good."
"Wife, you don't even look at me..." Qin Zheng moved closer to her, dissatisfied, and pulled her hand, insisting that she smell it.
Seeing that he was acting like a child, Ye Yun helplessly waved him over and said, "Come here, let me smell it."
Qin Zheng quickly leaned closer, showing off, "Gu Jin brought some new soap today, she said it's lemon-scented, smell it!"
Ye Yun leaned down and gave his neck a perfunctory sniff. "Mmm, smells so good!"
No wonder the soap smelled a bit off when she washed her face; it turned out she had changed to a new one. But he was sure it was brought by Gu Jin, not Gu Yingying.
Qin Zheng hadn't expected this at all.
Anyway, Gu Jin gave him that soap.
He only knew that Ye Yun had praised him, and he chuckled contentedly, then hugged Ye Yun and snuggled into the quilt, saying, "Wife, you smell even better."
Ye Yun twitched the corner of her mouth.
Feeling Qin Zheng's hands, hidden under the covers, becoming restless, she said, "Qin Zheng, I need to discuss this matter with you..."
