Chapter 826 Parents' Side Story (Part 1)

The moonlight poured down, shining coldly on people, as if they were covered by a thin layer of frost, making them shiver.

Footsteps slowly approached from behind.

In an instant, a glimmer of light appeared in Ye Xia's eyes. She turned around and saw that long-lost slender figure.

The man has lost a lot of weight.

His cheeks were slightly sunken, and his eyes behind his glasses seemed somewhat lifeless. It was hard to tell what kind of torment he had endured during this time.

Ye Xia suddenly felt a pang of heartache.

She forced herself to remain calm, handed him the metal lunchbox she had been keeping warm in her arms, and said with a smile, "Here, these are dumplings my family made, they're still warm."

Mu Jingsheng didn't speak, staring blankly at the dumplings in her hand.

She was freezing and couldn't stand it anymore. The mountains were already cold, and her nose and ear tips were turning red. She forced a smile and said, "What are you standing there for? Sit down and eat."

She pulled him along, and they sat down side by side as before.

She opened the lunchbox and placed it in Mu Jingsheng's hand. The lunchbox was warm, while Mu Jingsheng's hand was cold. The difference in temperature seemed to make him pause for a moment.

"Eat quickly, it will get cold later."

She gently urged him on.

Even when urging someone, her voice is gentle and soft, neither arrogant nor impatient, like a feather lightly brushing against one's heart.

Mu Jingsheng looked up at her.

Under the moonlight, a gentle smile played between her tender brows and eyes. Her nose and eyes were red, and she wore a small white hat. Her gaze was soft yet full of strength, making her indescribably charming.

At that moment, Mu Jingsheng etched her image into his heart.

In the agonizing years that followed, he still vividly remembered a girl looking at him so tenderly under the moonlight, and every time he recalled that scene, he was filled with unbearable pain.

They ate the dumplings in big bites.

Tears fell in large drops.

He desperately tried to conceal his despicable thoughts through his urgent eating.

Fortunately, the night was dark enough that he kept his head down, concealing the moisture in his eyes and suppressing his filth and the urge to drag a beautiful girl into the swamp.

Until he swallowed the last dumpling.

"do you like me?"

Mu Jingsheng was taken aback by her direct expression. He stared at her silently in the moonlight, not daring to make a sound.

Ye Xia sighed softly.

"I'm getting married."

The man's hand gripping the chopsticks tightened suddenly, his pupils contracted sharply, and astonishment appeared on his pale face.

After a long pause, he swallowed hard, his voice hoarse: "How...is he?"

"I have no idea."

Ye Xia couldn't understand his reaction, and her heart sank slightly. She looked up at the clear moon hanging high in the night sky and sighed softly, "It's all the same, even if it's not you."

Mu Jingsheng's lunchbox clattered to the ground.

Ye Xia turned to look at him, her profile bathed in a beautiful, hazy glow under the moonlight, and asked with a hopeful look in her eyes, "Mu Jingsheng, will you marry me?"
