Chapter 391 The Fourth Brother's Accident

After finding Qin Zheng, Ye Yun explained the whole story of Lao Si to him. Qin Zheng clicked his tongue and said, "That kid's messy love affairs have somehow prevented me from having a drink too?"

Ye Yun laughed and scolded, "Is the banquet more important, or your cousin's marriage?"

Qin Zheng shook his head unhappily.

He didn't want to leave just like that. He grinned, reached out and pinched Ye Yun's fair cheek, his tone slightly flirtatious: "Wife, want to come with me?"

Ye Yun ruthlessly slapped his hand away.

"No, I want to eat at the banquet."

"..."

...

Around noon, Qin Zheng had already left with his fourth brother. Before leaving, he took an iron basin and filled it with some wine and dishes that would be served soon.

Hmph, I'll pack it up and eat it at home.

Only after Qin Zheng drove away with Lao Si did Zhao Erling, who was behind the window, turn her gaze away and let out a long sigh of relief.

The thought of Mao Cuicui made her grit her teeth instantly. "I really didn't expect that Mao Cuicui would dare to set her sights on my younger brother!"

Ye Yun remained silent and took a sip of water.

After scolding Mao Cuicui, Zhao Erling gave her a grateful smile, "Ye Yun, thank you. If you hadn't reminded me, I wouldn't have realized this."

Ye Yun remained noncommittal.

To reiterate, she just felt that Mao Cuicui's gaze towards Lao Si was strange, but as for whether Mao Cuicui had taken a liking to Lao Si, she couldn't be sure.

However, it was the right thing to do to let the fourth brother leave first, no matter what.

But if it's really as Zhao Erling said, that Mao Cuicui's family is utterly shameless, then will the fourth son be able to escape successfully today?

...

Soon it was time to start the banquet.

In the village, banquets are held with tables set up inside the house or in the courtyard, and some are even set up at the front gate. Once the banquet begins, relatives who come to offer their congratulations take their seats with their friends.

As Zhao Erling's family members, Ye Yun and Qin Xiang'e ate together in the main room.

Also present at the table were Second Sister's parents-in-law and husband. Second Sister's room was separated from her by a curtain, making it convenient for them to help her if needed.

While the banquet was in progress, Ye Yun kept observing the tables outside.

Mao Cuicui sat at the table in the courtyard, surrounded by a group of elderly women who were laughing and chatting.

Halfway through the banquet, she suddenly picked up a glass of wine with a big smile and walked towards their room.

"Auntie, I've come to offer you a toast." As soon as Mao Cuicui entered the room, her shrewd eyes swept across the banquet table.

When she didn't see the fourth brother, her expression visibly stiffened.

She had been keeping a close eye on the main room since the start of the banquet, not daring to relax for a moment. She hadn't seen Zhao Laosi leave, so why wasn't he at the table?

Mao Daxing's mother didn't particularly like Mao Cuicui either, but since Mao Cuicui had come to offer a toast, she couldn't refuse. She nudged Mao Daxing's arm, inviting him to have a drink with her.

Mao Daxing, that simpleton, stood up happily and said, "Sister, I'll take the wine."

After saying that, he tilted his head back and drank it all in one gulp.

Mao Cuicui wasn't really there to offer a toast. Her face was slightly stiff, but she still pretended to take a sip of the wine in her hand and casually smiled as she spoke: "Auntie, why are there so few people in your room?"

Not only is Zhao Laosi not here, but even Qin Zheng, that living Yama, is nowhere to be found.

Ye Yun chuckled lightly, her tone indifferent: "The others weren't feeling well, so they went back first. Why are you so concerned about this?"

"I...I..." Mao Cuicui choked and couldn't speak, gritting her teeth inwardly.

We can't very well admit that she's got her eye on Zhao Laosi.

The plan hasn't succeeded yet, so she can't reveal her feelings. Otherwise, what if these people stop her from dating Old Zhao?

Mao Cuicui glanced at Ye Yun with her shrewd eyes. She knew that Ye Yun was the fourth brother's cousin-in-law and that Ye Yun had taught Qin Xiang'e how to make mung bean cakes. She swallowed Ye Yun's retort and smiled apologetically, "No, I was just asking out of curiosity. I thought many of Sister Ling's family members would come."

"We don't have many relatives."

Before Ye Yun could speak, Qin Xiang'e uttered a resentful remark.

What does it mean when many of the bride's family members come?

The way you're saying that makes it sound like your family members would be bringing their own people to freeload.

"Mao Cuicui, come back to the table and eat when you have nothing to do. Your aunt still has to entertain your in-laws." Mao Daxing's mother looked displeased and spoke in a distant tone.

She never thought much of Mao Cuicui, so who knew what this girl was up to now.

Mao Cuicui could easily detect the disdain in Mao Daxing's mother's tone, and a cold glint flashed in her eyes. "Alright, Auntie, then you two eat and drink well!"

Everyone: "..."

Hey, if you didn't know better, you'd think she was hosting a banquet.

Mao Cuicui turned and left.

Even though she was unwilling to see Zhao Laosi, she had to endure it to avoid alerting him.

It's a pity about the glass of wine in her hand. She originally intended to splash it on Zhao Laosi, but unexpectedly, Zhao Laosi got away.

"It's really strange. Mao Cuicui isn't familiar with our family. What was she doing coming into our room today?" Wang Daxing's mother clicked her tongue as she watched Mao Cuicui leave. She thought about it for a long time but still couldn't figure it out, so she could only shake her head again.

Ye Yun lowered her eyes and remained silent.

Their real intention was something else entirely.

Watching Mao Cuicui's departing figure, which was filled with deep resentment, Ye Yun couldn't help but sigh, feeling extremely fortunate that the fourth brother had already left with Qin Zheng.

Otherwise, I'm afraid things won't end well.

...

At dusk, Qin Zheng picked up Ye Yun in his sidecar.

Qin Xiang'e also went back with them.

Qin Xiang'e was, after all, her own mother, and she couldn't keep taking care of her daughter during her postpartum period, otherwise it would be disrespectful to Mao Daxing's mother, who was his mother-in-law.
