Chapter 165 Success

Chapter 165 Success

Shen Fuhua obediently did as she was told, shrinking down to make room for her mother.

Shen Cuifen lay on her side, her cheek pressed against the pillow, and closed her eyes.

I slept until after six in the morning.

The nurse pushed the cleaning cart in to clean.

The bucket bumped against the doorframe with a loud bang, breaking the silence.

She opened her eyes groggily.

Zheng Mingyue also woke up and curled up on the narrow hospital bed.

She rolled over and couldn't help but groan; her bones were aching from the pressure.

Seeing her disheveled appearance, Song Lei felt a pang of heartache.

He said softly.

"Don't stay up all night, go home and sleep. We've got you covered at the hospital, nothing will happen."

But Zheng Mingyue readily agreed.

"Okay, okay, I'll definitely come back next time."

But I still can't let it go.

Shen Fuhua was also woken up by the noise and sat up, rubbing his eyes.

"Mom...I'm hungry."

Shen Cuifen sighed, then couldn't help but smile, reaching out to pat her son's head.

"Little glutton, it's only a little past six, and you're already hungry? Okay, okay, Mom will go to the cafeteria to buy you something to eat, don't rush."

She turned to Zheng Mingyue and asked, her tone becoming lighter.

"Sister Mingyue, I'll take the lunchbox. What would you like to eat? I can bring it back for you on the way. It's on my way anyway."

Without saying a word, Zheng Mingyue handed over the lunchbox.

"Three steamed buns will do, no need to be too particular."

After saying that, he was about to take out his money.

Shen Cuifen quickly waved her hand.

"No, no, no! You gave me so much food yesterday, I couldn't finish it all, there's still some left. I haven't thanked you yet, this meal is on me! How could I let you pay?"

Zheng Mingyue ignored her and shoved the money into her hand.

“You’re a single mother raising so many children, with elderly parents to care for and young children to raise. I understand how heavy the burden is on your shoulders. Take it! It’s not much money, but it’s a token of my appreciation. If you don’t accept it, you’re disrespecting me.”

She paused, her voice softening.

"Besides, your brother Song and I ate several of your steamed buns! If anyone should thank you, it's us. Go on, don't dawdle. I'll watch the kids for you; not one of them will be missing!"

Shen Cuifen couldn't persuade her otherwise, knowing that further refusal would only hurt her feelings.

She gave a soft "hmm" and turned to leave.

The hospital cafeteria is easy to find; it's just on the first floor, around the corner.

She finished quickly and hurried back, carrying the steaming hot lunchbox.

I had just stepped into the ward when I suddenly stopped.

Zheng Mingyue sat on the edge of Shen Fuhua's bed, head down, secretly wiping away tears.

Shen Fuhua lowered her head, clutching the corner of the blanket with her small hands, looking completely bewildered.

When he saw her return, he quickly looked up at her, his eyes full of pleading.

Shen Cuifen immediately rushed over, placed the lunchbox on the table, and made a soft "thump" sound.

She frowned and glared at her son.

"Shen Fuhua! What nonsense are you spouting now? How did you make Aunt Mingyue cry?"

Zheng Mingyue's voice trembled slightly.

"No, no! He's not making this up! Fuhua just told me all about how you've raised your child alone all these years... Hearing those stories made my heart ache and I couldn't breathe. Cuifen, your life has been so hard..."

As she spoke, her eyes welled up with tears again.

Shen Cuifen's heart skipped a beat.

She gently patted Zheng Mingyue's shoulder, her tone soft and gentle.

"Oh, Mingyue, please don't think like that! What the child said is all in the past, it's over! I'm doing very well now, I'm really not suffering at all. Look, I have hot meals to eat, a house to shelter me from the wind and rain, and my child is sensible, obedient, and doing well in school. I'm very content!"

Zheng Mingyue sniffled and nodded, her voice choked with emotion.

"Okay, okay, I won't cry anymore, I won't cry anymore... Let's not just keep talking, the food is getting cold, let's eat first."

Song Lei watched her quietly the whole time.

Seeing that there were still tear stains on her face, he silently raised his sleeve and wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.

Zheng Mingyue suddenly noticed that Shen Cuifen's gaze was on her, and her face flushed.

She quickly and gently pulled Song Lei's still-raised arm down, and scolded him softly.

"Oh, please stop! People are watching, it's so embarrassing!"

Song Lei was not annoyed when she pulled down his sleeve; instead, he laughed even harder.

"Okay, okay, I'll listen to you, alright?"

Zheng Mingyue's face turned even redder.

She lowered her head and pretended to tidy up the lunchbox, not daring to look at him again.

"Let's eat! Let's eat!"

Shen Cuifen quickly smiled and smoothed things over.

"If we don't eat now, the food will get cold, and then we'll be wasting Mingyue's good meal!"

At the dinner table, Zheng Mingyue picked up a piece of green vegetable with her chopsticks and chewed it slowly.

Suddenly, he raised his head and looked intently at Shen Cuifen.

"Cuifen, could you keep an eye on my husband's vaccination later? He needs to get it on time today, no delays. Don't go to the cafeteria at noon, it's too far and a hassle. Bring your lunchbox, I'll bring some food back on my way so you two can eat together."

Upon hearing this, Shen Cuifen was about to nod in agreement.

Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside the door.

Zou Qiuyue stood up abruptly and rushed towards the door.

She had barely opened the door a crack when she jumped back, her face turning deathly pale.

Just as Shen Cuifen was about to stand up and take a look, she heard Zou Qiuyue's heart-wrenching roar.

"Good heavens! Cuifen! Quick! Block the door! Don't let her in! Hurry!"

She jumped out of bed and rushed barefoot to the door.

The two men stood with their backs to the door, using all their strength to hold it shut.

Zhou Wenjuan pushed the door open desperately from outside.

A man followed behind her, his expression blank and his eyes cloudy.

He was holding a dark, lumpy object in his hand, which he would throw at Zhou Wenjuan every now and then.

"Open the door! Open the door now! Help me! He's gone mad! He's going to kill me!"

Zhou Wenjuan's voice was hoarse from shouting.

But there was no fear on his face, only a hint of smugness.

Shen Cuifen gave a cold laugh.

She knew exactly what this woman was up to.

She wasn't being chased at all; she deliberately lured the crazed man toward their ward!

If Zou Qiuyue hadn't been sharp-eyed and blocked them at the door, Zhou Wenjuan would have succeeded long ago.

Hearing the commotion outside, the other family members in the ward all put down their bowls and chopsticks and gathered around.

When they saw the scene outside the door with their own eyes, they were completely stunned.

Without saying a word, they all rushed forward and braced themselves against the door.

Seeing that she couldn't open the door and the man behind her was getting closer and closer, Zhou Wenjuan finally panicked.

The next second, she turned and ran.

"Help! Murder! Help!"

Shen Cuifen watched her retreating figure, then spat out a cold laugh.

"Pah! What a pretentious act, who are you trying to fool!"

A family member standing nearby was so frightened he was panting heavily.

"This man is delirious! You weren't here the day before yesterday, so you have no idea how terrifying the scene was. He was in this room that day, and suddenly he grabbed a piece of feces and threw it in people's faces!"

Another person continued.

"That's right! The hospital was in complete chaos that day. Several caregivers and security guards had to work together to barely tie his hands and feet and lock him in the isolation area. Who knew he would break free again today!"

Shen Cuifen was completely confused and turned to look at Zou Qiuya.

"Sister Qiuya, what is 'delirium'?"
