Chapter 111 Genuine Care
He clenched his teeth, his forehead covered in cold sweat.
If Lu Zhonghe hadn't been standing next to him, he really would have wanted to take off his pants to see how badly he was injured.
The bed and blankets are now mostly wet.
If they aren't moved to a corner soon, they'll all be ruined.
Not only were the bedding soaked through, but a pungent, foul smell permeated the room.
The weather is hot and humid; if we wait any longer, it'll start to smell musty.
"oh……"
Lu Zhonghe slowly moved over to pull the bed.
He rested one hand on the headboard and the other on the wall.
I tried to pull for ages, but the bed wouldn't budge.
This bed is made of solid wood and is very heavy.
Over time, the wood absorbs moisture and becomes heavier.
Lu Zhong's arm muscles were taut, and his face turned red.
But the bed remained unmoved.
"Dad, I can't pull it by myself, can you lend a hand?"
Lu Zhonghe, panting heavily, shouted with a look of displeasure.
Lu Jianguo raised his foot to kick his butt, but as soon as he lifted his foot, he felt a sharp pain in his lower body.
"Hiss..." He gasped.
"It hurts so much!"
That punch was too hard; it not only hurts but also feels swollen.
"You're just like that heartless mother! Don't you know I'm injured?"
He cursed through gritted teeth, his eyes filled with resentment and venom.
Lu Zhonghe pursed his lips again and muttered under his breath.
"But my mom was injured by you before, and she still went to work in the fields, didn't she?"
"Say it again?"
Lu Jianguo suddenly looked up.
Lu Zhonghe immediately shook his head and waved his hands.
"I didn't say anything, I really didn't say anything... I can't move the bed, what do we do now?"
He changed the subject.
Lu Jianguo glared at the bed, his anger rising.
"You useless piece of trash! What are we going to do? Move the blanket to a place where it won't leak, and you can sit over there and sleep!"
He jabbed his finger hard at the relatively dry patch of ground in the corner of the room.
Lu Zhonghe pouted and reluctantly rolled up the half-wet blanket.
Lu Jianguo, on the other hand, lay limping on the dry side.
My front and back hurt, so I can only sleep on my side.
He closed his eyes and hummed softly.
Lu Zhonghe watched as Lu Jianguo lay comfortably, while he himself had to sit and doze off.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Lu Jianguo was too selfish and didn't deserve to be a father at all.
He was his own son, yet he wouldn't even be allowed to lie down in a dry place.
But Lu Jianguo occupied all the areas that weren't leaking.
Lu Zhonghe had no choice but to find a low stool to sit on and make do with sleeping.
He originally wanted to go up to the kitchen and bring over a few more stools so he could set up a makeshift bed like Lu Zhongping did.
But it was raining so hard outside that I couldn't go out at all.
Having no other choice, Lu Zhonghe angrily grabbed a stool and moved it toward Lu Jianguo.
The wooden leg scraped against the ground with a harsh sound.
He thought to himself that sitting on a stool with his upper body on the bed was better than just sitting there doing nothing.
Unexpectedly, Lu Jianguo immediately became nervous when he saw him approaching with a stool.
"What...what do you want to do?!"
That punch just now was no light one; Lu Jianguo always felt that Lu Zhonghe was deliberately retaliating against him.
Seeing him approach now, I'm afraid he'll make a move again.
Lu Zhonghe rolled his eyes, not understanding why he was so sensitive.
"Can't I sleep on the edge of the bed? I'm not lying on top of you!"
Lu Jianguo swallowed hard and raised his hand, pointing towards the door.
"Go to that cabinet over there! So you won't have another fit of madness and hit me in the middle of the night!"
Lu Zhonghe turned his head and glanced at the wooden cabinet, his brows involuntarily furrowing.
The cabinet was ridiculously low; if you sat down, your head would almost touch the edge.
Look at Lu Jianguo, he looks like he's guarding against thieves.
A surge of anger welled up inside Lu Zhonghe.
He wanted to argue, but he swallowed the words back.
Forget it, I'm too lazy to argue.
He walked over with a cold face and a huff.
The light cord made a "squeak" sound, almost being torn off by him.
Lu Jianguo immediately started shouting again.
"You little brat! Are you stupid?! That's not how you pull the light cord! Are you trying to break something?!"
Lu Zhonghe leaned against the wall, not saying a word.
He couldn't be bothered to pay attention to him, much less to explain.
I was born with a mother who was so domineering that she was unbelievable. She spoke to me with a commanding tone from childhood to adulthood.
And then I ran into a dad who only cares about himself and blames others when problems arise.
This life is so oppressive that it makes you want to escape.
The sky gradually brightened, and the rain stopped.
Shen Cuifen got up early in the morning.
She was busy making breakfast.
She opened the cupboard and took the eggs out one by one.
She had been saving these eggs for quite some time, and today she decided to make an exception.
Together with Lu Guizhen, she cooked a large pot of steaming hot egg noodles.
Of course, she didn't do Lu Jianguo's share at all.
She wouldn't even let him touch the pot, let alone serve him noodles.
"Oh dear, Cuifen, could you put in less eggs?"
Sister-in-law Li Guiying stood by the stove, her face contorted with heartache.
Nine bowls of noodles, and she counted with her own eyes, used more than a dozen eggs.
Today, Cuifen is getting a divorce from Lu Jianguo.
A woman raising three children alone, how can she not worry about the daily necessities of life?
Li Guiying felt heartbroken just thinking about it.
Yang Lanying stared at the fragrant noodles, her throat moving involuntarily.
She also joined in the persuasion.
"Yes, Cuifen, we're all family, no need to spend so much! What's the difference between eating whatever we want? We'll save money, we have a long life ahead of us."
Shen Cuifen smiled and waved her hand.
"Today is a day to celebrate, what's a few eggs! Sister-in-law, don't worry, there are more in the cupboard! From now on, I'll be living alone, and I'll have to make sure the children are fed."
After she finished speaking, she served herself another bowl and added an extra poached egg.
"Who...is this for?"
Li Guiying just counted, nine people, nine bowls, how come there's one extra bowl?
"For the child's grandfather."
Shen Cuifen spoke calmly.
Actually, she did hesitate.
But Lu Qiming is really pitiful; he's been bedridden for more than half a year.
Most of what he said to himself that day was true.
What man would lie about being disliked by his son and not even being able to afford food?
That's not shameful, that's heartbreaking.
Once she and Lu Jianguo completely separate, Yang Juanhua probably won't genuinely take care of him anymore.
That daughter-in-law has always been mean-spirited.
A person who is paralyzed in bed and left unattended will not live for more than a few days.
Never mind, it's just a bowl of noodles.
She sighed inwardly.
Tell Lu Fuhua to eat quickly, feed his grandfather on the way, and then rush to school.
Neither of the two sisters-in-law said anything after hearing this.
Shen Cuifen's parents knew perfectly well that their daughter was too soft-hearted.
But she just happened to run into the Lu family, a group of unreasonable relatives.
In particular, Lu Jianguo's mother, Yang Juanhua, was always finding fault with Shen Cuifen and was never satisfied with her.
After finishing their meal, the two sisters-in-law hurriedly headed to Shenjia Village.
They were preoccupied with the chores at home and couldn't sit still.
No one feeds the chickens, ducks, and pigs raised at home.
We have to get up before dawn to prepare feed and clean the pens.
I left in a hurry last night and didn't even close the door properly. The pots on the stove are still piled up and unwashed.
To make matters worse, he didn't even have time to explain things clearly to the children.
If I don't go back and check on them soon, I'm afraid the children will feel uneasy and there will be no one to comfort them if they start crying.
The others stayed behind.
Everyone worked quickly and efficiently, and soon the kitchen was spotless.
