After dinner
Grandma Rong didn't keep Rong Jingxi for a moment. She was upset to see him pretending to be serious and saying that he would compensate the good boy, but actually he had no real sincerity. She pushed him out of the yard in a half-driving state.
Of course, he did not forget what he brought. When he saw someone passing by, he raised his voice slightly and said:
"Hurry up and take your things back. I haven't taken care of them for more than ten years. You don't need this little bit of food as compensation. His uncle can easily buy a whole truckload."
Passersby and neighbors were discussing the matter one after another, and every word was like a slap in the face of Rong Jingxi. He turned around and wanted to go back to the yard to hide. It was really embarrassing to be watched and pointed at by others for having no face.
"Bang!"
Grandma Rong closed the door directly from the inside, and did not forget to fasten the bolt.
Rong Jingxi's nose almost hit the gate. To make amends, he shouted towards the yard:
"Mom, whether you accept it or not is also my gift. This time, I really didn't bring much because I was in such a hurry. Please don't be disgusted and accept it. I will put it all at the door and remember to take it. I will bring my whole family to see you in a few days."
"Take your things and leave quickly. Don't come here. I'm an old lady and I'm too fragile to stand up to any stimulation. Just live your life happily. Don't come and get in my way. Amitabha."
For a long while, there was no more voice from Rong Jingxi outside.
Grandma Rong was about to go back to the house. Her son's time was very precious. It was not easy for him to take half a day to visit her. She wanted to pack more food, drinks and daily necessities for him to take back.
“Bang, bang, bang…”
There was a knock on the door, and a strange voice came from outside:
"Whoever's in that yard, please open the door. The man who just put his things at the door got in a car and left."
Even though supplies were scarce in this era, people were very simple and kind, and did not covet so many delicious foods.
Grandma Rong said to Rong Jingdong, who had just walked out of the house, "Go to the door and get the things back. Have someone deliver them to his house tonight. Send them there in a lively manner so that people know that I, an old country mother, and my beloved daughter who was abandoned by her in the countryside, have no desire for his things, especially those two carefully prepared flowery cotton-padded jackets!"
"Mom, don't worry, I will definitely arrange for someone to send it to my second brother's home."
After saying this, the mother and son looked at each other and smiled.
"Go ahead, I'll prepare something for you."
"You don't need too much. We have enough at home. Leave some for you and your sweetheart."
"We only have two mouths to feed, so we don't need anything. Even if you're a high-ranking commander, you still need tickets to buy things. Don't be so polite to your mother. I've never been polite to you brothers and sisters either."
Rong Jingdong had no choice but to go to the door and bring the things in again. This time, instead of taking them back inside, he called the accompanying guard and gave him some instructions. When he returned to the room, he saw all sorts of things placed on the kang and cabinets.
"Mom, this, this is a bit too much."
Rong Qing: "Compared to your truckload, these are nothing compared to the big ones. Don't be polite, there is really no shortage of them."
Then she took out a juicy pear from somewhere and handed it to him: "Try it, it's very sweet. I like it."
“Click, click, click.”
Suddenly, the sound of eating pears could be heard in the room. Rong Qing and his uncle were eating pears as if they were competing to the death, taking turns to eat, and their mouths were full of sweet pear juice.
After finishing a large pear, Rong Jingdong was very satisfied: "This pear is really crisp and sweet. It's even bigger and sweeter than the one the army distributed during last year's Spring Festival."
Rong Qing and grandma looked at each other and smiled implicitly.
It doesn’t taste good, but it has been nourished by spiritual energy.
"Grandma, uncle loves pears, so bring him the whole basket!"
Rong Jingdong looked in the direction he pointed and was slightly stunned. It was a largest backpack, and it was estimated that there were at least fifty pounds of pears in it.
"It's too much. Leave some for yourself."
Rong Qing pointed to the small basket next to the basket and said, "There are some more. Besides this, the earthen cellar is better. There are other fruits there as well."
Rong Jingdong was so excited after hearing what he said that he wanted to go into the cellar and take a closer look. How many good things were there?
He looked at Rong Qing gently. It was really worth it that he loved this little niece so much. She was really like a little cotton-padded jacket. Look, look, how generous she was. Those white and tender little hands were still constantly taking things out of the cabinet for him.
But, can this cabinet hold so much?
Rong Qing: “…”
It's not that the cabinet can be used to store things, it's really just a tool to hide things! Finally, Rong Jingdong couldn't stand it anymore. It was too much, too much. How did he become the one going back to his mother's house to beg for money? Thinking of this, he said it jokingly:
"Mom, why do I feel like a poor relative who's trying to get money from money? I feel like a swarm of locusts, emptying the house."
Grandma Rong clenched her fist and hit his sturdy arm lightly: "You little brat, why are you coming to my mother's house? What happened to our separation?
Besides, you really underestimate your mother. These things are nothing. Even though you are a commander, you can't get these new things. Are they for you alone?
You brothers and sisters should share some and try some. There is more at home after you finish eating. You can take more when you come back."
"Hahaha... Mom, you're awesome. Fine, I'll shamelessly ask for your help."
Rong Qing waved his hands generously: "Beat them as you like, beat them as you like. When I need something, I'll go to my uncle, my third uncle, and my aunt's house to beat them. Don't be polite and take turns beating them. We jokingly call ourselves the "Autumn Wind Family"!
"Ha ha ha ha......"
"Hahaha......"
As soon as the words fell, two laughs were heard.
