"It's okay, I can walk by myself. Put me down, put me down."
Several workers in the yard, especially Liu Aiyue who was heating water with a coal stove, were so angry when they saw this that they slammed the fire tongs in their hands to the ground.
But he was so focused on looking at Jiang Xue that he didn't notice his own toes at all.
Instantly, a large gash was smashed into his toe. He sat at the front door, clutching his foot in pain, cursing Jiang Xue with a ferocious expression.
He kept hurling insults at her, calling her a slut and a whore.
Aunt Wang and several other aunts were arranged by Ji Chen to stay in the west room, and Aunt Wang, in particular, found it increasingly difficult to listen to what Ji Chen was saying.
"How can you say that about your daughter-in-law? I think that Xie Xiaotian is no good at all."
Liu Aiyue was immediately displeased. "Xiao Tian has a big butt and can give me a grandson. Can Jiang Xue do that? She's always out partying and there's no sign of her pregnant."
"Jiang Xue just didn't get pregnant after getting married. Now she's not lazy and has changed her habits. You see, their relationship is pretty good now."
After Aunt Wang finished speaking, Aunt Zhao quickly offered a suggestion and chimed in, "Why don't you let them both go to a big hospital for a check-up? They often go to the city, so it's just a side trip."
These words struck a chord with Liu Aiyue. Right now, she has no other thoughts but to hold her eldest grandson. People in the village who are about her age already have grandsons who are in elementary school.
Besides the constant hum of sewing machines coming from the east room, there was also laughter from the courtyard.
Seeing that Sun Ze'an was standing there for a long time without leaving, Ji Chen said irritably, "She has so many neighbors helping to take care of her now, why aren't you leaving?"
Sun Ze'an calmly opened the plastic bag, placed the gauze flat on the table, and carefully applied the medicine, layer by layer, until it was evenly applied, following his life's instructions.
Sitting on the octagonal stool, Jiang Xue was determined to get Sun Ze'an's wooden stick for digging up medicinal mud.
Seeing this, Sun Ze'an smiled slowly and said, "You don't need to learn. I'll come and help you apply it again tomorrow."
"Cough cough..." Upon hearing this, Ji Chen choked on his own saliva and angrily spun around in circles.
"No need to trouble yourself. It's a small matter, so I can handle it myself tomorrow," Jiang Xue said, trying her best to decline.
"You should rest well. Do you want me to prepare your meal?"
Ji Chen couldn't help but say, "Do you think I'd let her starve to death? Go back to where you came from, this is none of your business."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Xue felt it was disrespectful and quickly explained to Sun Ze'an, "That's just how he is, a rough and uncultured country bumpkin, please be understanding."
Ji Chen's face, which was originally dark, instantly turned green.
"It's alright, it's alright. He's been taking care of you for so long, I don't even know how to thank him enough. I'll pick you up once you're done here." Sun Ze'an looked at Jiang Xue with eyes full of affection.
"Since I can't be of much help here, I'll head back now."
"Okay, then let Ji Chen give you a ride. It's not very convenient to take the bus here; we usually walk." Jiang Xue stood up with some concern, remembering to see the kind-hearted Sun Ze'an off.
"Sit down and get some rest. I can walk now, don't get up to see me off," Sun Ze'an said as he walked towards the door.
Jiang Xue tugged at Ji Chen's collar, "Could you please see him off for me? Thank you."
Ji Chen was seething with anger and was about to glare at Jiang Xue when he suddenly met her eyes – those bright, affectionate eyes, filled with a hint of expectation.
