Chapter 60 A Big Tumble

Jiang Xue stared at Ji Chen in surprise, then said embarrassedly, "It's dark here, how about we do it tomorrow?"

Ji Chen suddenly realized his slip of the tongue and quickly corrected himself, "Tomorrow, I meant tomorrow."

"Oh, okay, then you can eat." Jiang Xue said, turning to take care of the two children.

Ji Chen stood there, stunned, leaning on the handle of the hoe, staring blankly at Jiang Xue Linglong's back.

Jiang Xue skillfully poured a spoonful of meat sauce onto the noodles for the two children.

"Thank you, Aunt." Shao Heng lay on the square table, picking at the noodles covered in soup.

After washing his hands, Ji Chen looked into his bowl and saw that there was a handful of chopped green onions on top of the chili oil, a fried egg peeking out from the noodles, and some small green vegetables that looked like jade.

"Thanks." The noodles, with their appealing color, aroma, and taste, tempted Ji Chen to sit down immediately.

"Will you be home tomorrow?" Jiang Xue asked slowly as she ate her noodles.

"Yes, I'm here. The materials will be delivered tomorrow, so I don't need to go." Ji Chen kept his head down and didn't look up at Jiang Xue.

"Then tomorrow, could you keep an eye on a few workers for me? The shops in the city need to open, otherwise it will affect my profits." Jiang Xue knew she could earn a lot right now, but who would complain about making more money?

"Tomorrow I'll try not being there and see how it goes. If it works, I'll have Xiaoling take charge of things from now on."

Ji Chen, who finished his noodles in a few bites, finally glanced at Jiang Xue, but his eyes darted away as if fleeing, not daring to linger on her for even a moment.

"Okay, the two kids can stay at home, I'll take care of them."

Jiang Xue's happy eyes curved into crescent moons in the water, sparkling and bright.

Their eyes met, and Jiang Xue felt nothing, but Ji Chen's deep gaze made her immediately look away as if she had been electrocuted.

The dimly lit, dilapidated house was filled with the stifling heat of an impending rain.

Feeling suffocated and unable to breathe, Ji Chen quickly ran to take a cold shower.

A light rain was falling, and the raindrops on the dirt road gathered into streams of all sizes.

After having breakfast, Jiang Xue noticed that Ji Chen was staying home and not going to work. Since her legs were getting weak from walking, she figured it would be more convenient to borrow Ji Chen's Phoenix brand bicycle.

"Can I borrow your bike for a bit?"

"I'll find you a raincoat." Ji Chen was originally helping Shao Heng add clothes, but when he saw Jiang Xue was about to ride her bike, he quickly left Shao Heng behind and ran to find a raincoat for Jiang Xue.

Jiang Xue looked at Shao Heng, who was sniffling from the cold, and felt sorry for him. She went over to help him put on his clothes, saying, "Don't let the two children get cold. It's getting colder today, so please be careful."

Ji Chen found a raincoat in the courtyard, in the awning that had been set up overnight. He awkwardly handed the raincoat to Jiang Xue.

Jiang Xue looked at the weather with a headache. Fortunately, she had moved all the fabric home last night. "If it's not working out in the awning, then five of them can stay here with us. I'll arrange for five more to go to a neighbor's house. It's up to you."

"Okay, got it. Be careful on the road."

It was the first time Jiang Xue had seen Ji Chen show concern for someone, and she immediately felt quite warm inside.

She quickly arrived in the city on her bicycle, but it was raining, and since there were no helmets or anything like that in those days, Jiang Xue didn't feel anything on the deserted country roads.

But once they got to the city, all sorts of vehicles passed by Jiang Xue.

The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and Jiang Xue didn't see clearly. A large truck that was speeding past on her left took her and the truck overturned, plunging headfirst into a large puddle.
