Chapter 40 Connecting with People

With just a little matchmaking from Sun Ze'an, Jiang Xue managed to earn a net profit of twenty yuan from the order. Moreover, the curtains were not complicated to make, and she also sold a large amount of fabric along the way.

Jiang Xue was overjoyed. Faced with Sun Ze'an's kindness, she could only refuse his wages. Making friends would also help her gain more connections.

"Don't mention it. I'll treat you to dinner sometime. There's a restaurant that opened over in Yaohe, and the food is really good." Sun Ze'an was more interested in taking Jiang Xue out to dinner that very evening.

Among the girls he knew, Jiang Xue, despite her low level of education and poor family background, was more hardworking and ambitious than the girls from the city. Most importantly, she was also talkative and had a wide range of knowledge.

He'd rather stay in the room a little longer.

Ji Chen interrupted their cheerful conversation with a hint of annoyance, "Aren't you going back yet?"

Sun Ze'an asked Jiang Xue curiously, "Do you two still live together even though you're in a fake marriage?"

Jiang Xue scratched her head awkwardly, "It's all thanks to his kindness in taking me in, otherwise I'd be sleeping on the streets right now."

Sun Ze'an immediately showed sympathy on his face, "You've really had a tough time. I'll help you see if there are any suitable houses nearby, and we can rent one together, so you won't have to bother me."

With his pure and clear eyes, he greeted Ji Chen very politely and courteously.

Ji Chen turned his face away with a livid expression, pretending not to see Sun Ze'an's polite words at all.

Jiang Xue saw Sun Ze'an off, saying, "How could you be so rude? He was greeting you."

Ji Chen pretended nothing had happened and chased after him outside, saying, "What? I really didn't see anything."

Jiang Xue was too lazy to argue with Ji Chen. She closed the shop door and took her two children home.

Sitting in the back seat behind Ji Chen, Jiang Xue calmly said to him, "I'm just a country girl, and it's rare for me to make friends in the city. I don't know anyone here, so it's such a big favor that people are willing to help me."

Ji Chen kept a dark expression on his face as he pedaled, and Jiang Xue didn't notice anything unusual about him at all.

"How about I steam some buns and bring them to them tomorrow morning?"

With a sudden stop, Jiang Xue, holding Shao Meng, bumped headfirst into Ji Chen's back.

With a sturdy back, Jiang Xue rubbed her head, wincing in pain. "What happened? Why did you suddenly brake?"

"It's nothing, I'm just so hungry my eyes are blurry and I can't see the road clearly." Ji Chen didn't know why, but all he could think about was why he should give it to that brat.

"Oh, oh, then let's hurry up. If we know that, we can finish eating in the city and come back later."

"Shall we go to Yaohe Hotel?"

Jiang Xue was speechless for a moment after being caught off guard by his sudden remark.

He thought to himself, "He really is a strange person."

After dinner, Jiang Xue leaned on the square table, calculating the day's income, expenses, and the cost of goods needed for tomorrow's purchases.

Just as I was engrossed in my calculations, I heard a rapid knocking sound at the door.

Ji Chen unlatched the door and saw a man wearing bell-bottoms, sunglasses, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, and curly hair.

Jiang Xue burst out laughing at the bizarre look.

"Ji Dong? When did you get back?" Before Ji Chen could finish speaking...

Ji Dong barged in, dragging Xie Xiaotian behind him, followed by Liu Aiyue.
