"Get as far away from me as you can," Jiang Xue said, rolling her eyes at Ji Chen.
Ji Chen was rebuffed and very unhappy, but he still refused to let go of her hand.
"Let me go." Jiang Xue struggled to break free, but she couldn't.
"I won't let go. Promise me one thing and I'll let go."
Jiang Xue was very curious, blinking her peach blossom eyes as she looked at Ji Chen, "What's the matter?"
"Don't associate with that pretty boy anymore."
Seeing that Ji Chen's hand was loosening, Jiang Xue quickly pulled her hand back. "I thought it was something serious. It's just a little thing. Why are you making such a fuss? You're really troublesome."
Ji Chen was instantly stunned. This Jiang Xue was not a woman at all. Not only was she clueless about romance, but she also said that she saw his jealousy as a nuisance, and most importantly, she said that he was nagging.
Ji Chen clutched his chest in anger, but Jiang Xue, seeing that he had nothing else to say, left without looking back.
Back in her room, she couldn't resist adding insult to injury, "There's no way we're going to be together. Be careful next time. If you act like you did today, then we should live separately. I'll move to the city tomorrow."
Ji Chen bit his lip, even angrier. He clenched his fists, feeling like crying but unable to. He hadn't expected that Jiang Xue seemed to have completely stopped liking him.
He was furious that someone who had once fawned over him could remain unmoved by his forceful kiss.
Ji Chen, who hadn't slept a wink all night, arrived at the construction site the next day and saw Gu Xiaohei and a group of fellow workers chatting there.
Then they noticed that the gates of the residential area were not yet open. They usually arrive half an hour in the morning and wait outside.
He saw Gu Xiaohei chatting with a few young men.
He pursed his lips, pretending nothing was wrong, and leaned closer to listen.
I think I overheard Gu Xiaohei saying something about winning over his crush.
"Let me tell you, when you're pursuing a girl, you can't be too nice to her. Being too nice to her makes it seem like we can't live without her."
"That's right, they should be left hanging, let them taste what it's like to not get what they want."
"Women are just like men; the more unattainable something is, the more they want it."
"..."
Ji Chen listened from the side and felt that it seemed to make sense. He used to ignore Jiang Xue, but she would serve him rice and do his laundry.
Now it seems like he's the one doing all these things, and Jiang Xue doesn't even want to look at him.
It really is necessary to make her feel like she can't have him/her.
Ji Chen's mind wandered, thinking about returning home:
"Ji Chen, call the workers to eat."
"I'm not going." He put on a cold and aloof expression, as if he didn't want to talk to Jiang Xue.
"Clean up the dishes."
"No, I'm busy." He should have been firmer.
His mind flashed back to Jiang Xue looking at him timidly. After one or two such encounters, Jiang Xue would realize that he didn't like her at all, and that he wasn't the kind of man she could just get whenever she wanted.
……
Ji Chen felt happier the more he thought about it, and secretly resolved to treat her the same way when he got back, ignoring her as before.
Let Jiang Xue repent. She'll cry and tell me she'll never associate with that pretty boy again, that she'll be devoted to me from now on, and that she'll never bring up divorce again.
"Brother, what are you grinning about?" Gu Xiaohei was chatting with his coworkers when he noticed the tall Ji Chen standing behind them, smiling with his lips pursed, occasionally covering his mouth with his hand.
Gu Xiaohei's untimely remark shattered Ji Chen's illusions.
In the blink of an eye, his face turned cold, and his whole body exuded an aura that commanded respect. "Don't talk nonsense. If you don't speak, no one will think you're mute."
Gu Xiaohei's vision went black, and he almost fainted. Just now he was secretly smiling, but now he was pretending to be serious. If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he would have thought they were not the same person at all.
