Chapter 12 The Fault-Finders Arrive

When Ji Chen saw Jiang Xue, her skin was rosy from the sun, her cheeks were flushed, and her bright, captivating eyes were mesmerizing.

What's most striking is that this woman, for some reason, unbuttoned her collar, revealing her fair and delicate skin, which was truly eye-catching.

Ji Chen quickly removed Jiang Xue's hand and got up to get back to work.

Jiang Xue touched the blisters that had subsided and said excitedly, "Thanks!"

Ji Chen remained silent and ignored him.

A long day's work left Jiang Xue exhausted.

After finishing her meal, Jiang Xue collapsed into a rocking chair, exhausted.

Before I could even lie down properly, I heard a loud crash—the wooden door, which had no latch, was kicked open.

Ji Chen was drying the two children's hair after their bath when he frowned and said irritably, "Mom, why didn't you knock?"

"Knock on the door? I don't have the mind to knock on the door. It's a letter from your sister. I can't read. Quickly, read what this good-for-nothing has written." Liu Aiyue was panting anxiously.

Ji Chen took the letter and immediately read it aloud: "Brother, my husband doesn't agree to me bringing our two sons with me to live with him. I have no way out now; I can't keep the two children..."

"Stop reading." Jiang Xue realized his sister's intention, but saying it directly to the child would always affect the child's mental and physical health.

Jiang Xue immediately led the two children into the room, saying, "Shaoheng, Shaomeng, play here for a while. Your aunt will be here in a bit."

As soon as she stepped out of the room, she heard Ji Chen muttering, "Give them someone else, or have them adopted, that's fine. She should sever some ties with the two children from now on."

Ji Chen's pupils dilated in shock. "What? She doesn't want it anymore?"

Liu Aiyue immediately flew into a rage, "Shameless thing, having children with random men and then abandoning them."

She was so angry that her lips turned pale. She sat on the stool, clutching her chest and panting heavily.

"You just throw these two burdens away like that? How am I supposed to marry Xiaotian now that you've left them with you?" Liu Aiyue was so angry she could hardly breathe.

"Mom, stop talking nonsense." Ji Chen was also at his wit's end.

Ji Meng was disobedient from a young age. When the peddler gave her some novelties, she disregarded everything and ran away with him.

"Anyway, you can decide what to do with this child. Either send him back or give him away. I'm not taking him with me unless you and Xiaotian give me a grandson. That's the bloodline of the Ji family."

Liu Aiyue was so angry that her face turned pale. She got up and left, cursing.

She didn't want to cause so much trouble. If Ji Chen refused to send the two children away and instead insisted on taking care of them, she might as well just die.

She noticeably quickened her pace, leaving this huge mess directly to Ji Chen.

"Ji Chen, handle this matter yourself. Mom will keep things stable for you with Xiao Tian for now." After saying that, Liu Aiyue didn't forget to raise her face and give Jiang Xue a smug look.

However, she now knows that Jiang Xue is not someone to be trifled with, so it's best not to directly provoke her.

Ji Chen stood there, completely perplexed.

The children are innocent. Now she's abandoning two children, just like that. He has to earn money to make a living; how can he stay home all day to take care of her children?

He frowned and paced back and forth in front of the square table.

Jiang Xue couldn't help but chuckle. Is this what they call being blinded by one's own involvement?

"What are you laughing at?" Ji Chen looked up at Jiang Xue coldly, his heart already burning with anxiety.

"Why don't you go to your sister and ask her directly first?" Jiang Xue said calmly.

"It's no use asking her clearly. That's just the kind of person she is. All she thinks about is getting married and enjoying life. If a man treats her well, she gets carried away. She doesn't even want her two own children and wants me to give them away."

Ji Chen angrily slammed the letter on the table.

"Give it away, why not give it away?" Jiang Xue deliberately probed.

If she really wanted to give them away, she would adopt both children. Before she transmigrated, she never wanted to get married; she only wanted to have a child and participate in and accompany the growth of a life, which she considered a very happy thing.

If I can raise two more children to be successful, then I will truly have no regrets in this life.

Moreover, from the time I've spent with Shaoheng and Shaomeng, the younger ones know nothing and are like blank slates, but although Shaoheng is very well-behaved, he is insecure and timid, and it's obvious that he lacks affection.

"Give it away? I'd rather raise it myself than give it away." Veins bulged on Ji Chen's forehead, and his sharp eyes seemed to want to tear Jiang Xue apart.

Seeing his expression, Jiang Xue instantly lost her patience. "Tch, I was originally thinking of adopting him, but it seems there's no need for that now."

Jiang Xue turned around without any hesitation, went back into the room, and cuddled her two children to sleep.

Ji Chen stood frozen in place, as if he had misunderstood Jiang Xue's meaning. But seeing that Jiang Xue's door was tightly closed, he had no choice but to sit back on his bamboo couch.

He lay on the bamboo couch, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.

If Ji Yun really didn't want the child, he was truly in a dilemma, as he couldn't rely on his mother.

After thinking it over and over, he couldn't help but get up. He remembered what Jiang Xue had said and wondered why he didn't ask her directly.

He quickly got dressed, grabbed an old-fashioned flashlight, and without saying a word, headed to the address where his sister had written.

Sunlight streamed into the house through the gaps in the roof tiles.

Jiang Xue watched the two children play while sewing clothes, the sewing machine making a clattering sound.

Her mind was racing with calculations.

It seems that fewer and fewer people are coming from the surrounding villages to have their clothes made.

Income has clearly plummeted. If this continues, Jiang Xue will never be able to fulfill her grand ambitions.

She planned to get up and take her two children to the county town to see if there was a good place to set up a stall, so she could get more work there.

She'll rent a place not far from where she can set up her stall, saving on shop rental costs.

Just as I was deep in thought, a commotion arose outside the bamboo fence gate.

"This is the company that took away people's livelihoods. They charge by the piece for making clothes, so now people have to pay carpenters and bamboo craftsmen by the piece."

"Look at all she's capable of. If it weren't for the village secretary's warning at the meeting, all those shameful things she did before, she'd be nothing but a whore. Bah..."

...

"I'm a whore? Who said that? Say it again if you dare." Jiang Xue threw down the clothes in her hand and rushed out of the house.

Seeing Jiang Xue's appearance, and considering that a village meeting had already been held, everyone fell silent instantly.

Jiang Xue glanced at the villagers and noticed that Master Leng, who was standing at the corner, had his face buried very low.

So it turns out they've taken a bite out of someone else's business; these people are here to nitpick.

Wu Mazi from next door couldn't contain himself any longer and shouted into the crowd, "Why are you leading the way in charging by the piece? Are you trying to make a living for us old craftsmen?"
