Chapter 7: Move if there's a place to go

Jiang Xue politely looked up and said, "This is the current price. If there are too many people and we can't keep up, I'll consider adding one or two yuan."

Sincerity is the best strategy.

The villagers found that what Jiang Xue said was not only practical, but also straightforward.

"I'll go home and get a piece of clothing to make a dress for my daughter."

"Me too, me too."

The power of the masses in this era is no joke.

Soon, a long queue formed in front of Jiang Xue's stall under the big tree at the village entrance.

There's no time to draw sketches now, so she took a ruler and measured the children and women, carefully noting down the styles they wanted.

My pockets were stuffed full of one- or two-yuan bills.

After a busy morning, a pile of old clothes was left next to the sewing machine.

Jiang Xue realized she couldn't continue taking orders, otherwise the delivery date would be delayed and the customers would be dissatisfied. She glanced at the estimate that all the work could be completed within two days.

"I received the clothes here today. You can pick them up at my house in two days."

"Also, come over tomorrow morning when you have some free time. I'll draw up the designs, and you can choose the styles," Jiang Xue shouted at the top of her lungs.

After giving a series of instructions, she efficiently and neatly dismissed everyone.

It was lunchtime, and Jiang Xue, whose stomach was growling with hunger, quickly packed up her stall.

She could tell that her conspicuous behavior would attract even more people in the afternoon.

She packed up her stall and collapsed onto the bamboo couch in the house. Her two little ones, covered in dirt, came over.

"Aunt, we're hungry."

Jiang Xue's vision went black for a moment; she was so busy that she forgot about her two babies who were crying for milk.

She jumped up busily, saying, "I'm a model worker." Without another word, she rushed into the kitchen, quickly fed the two little ones, and put them to sleep.

Although she was very tired, she counted the money in her pocket and found that she had a full twenty-five yuan, which is equivalent to twelve yuan and fifty cents a day.

Jiang Xue thought of Ji Chen, who worked from dawn till dusk, and only earned five yuan a day.

Jiang Xue stuffed the money into the iron box, her whole body surging with energy, for the power of money was extraordinary.

"Let my sewing machine smoke."

When Jiang Xue got busy, she forgot the time. When Ji Chen returned home, he found Jiang Xue sitting in a pile of clothes, taking scissors and taking them apart.

Two children were also sitting in the pile of clothes, playing with buttons.

Seeing that the pots and pans were still cold, he asked in bewilderment, "Aren't you going to eat?"

A deep, magnetic male voice startled Jiang Xue, making her shudder.

She looked up at the sky and saw the setting sun painting the horizon red. She hurriedly put away her scissors, saying, "Oh dear, I forgot, I forgot."

She quickly squatted down and picked up Shaomeng, "Oh dear, my little baby is starving. Auntie will make you some food now."

Jiang Xue was too busy to pay attention to Ji Chen, but she genuinely loved the child.

Ji Chen ignored Jiang Xue as if she were invisible, and blatantly led the two children past him.

Jiang Xue completely ignored her nominal husband.

He stood frozen in place, unsure of what to say.

Jiang Xue was like a little motor, constantly turning as she changed the clothes she had altered that morning for the two children.

Ji Chen, who was sitting at the table studying the furniture styles, saw two fair-skinned girls wearing very fashionable little skirts and overalls.

He asked in surprise, "Did you buy it on the street today?"

He never imagined that this lazy woman would be so good to the children, and the two children were always clinging to her.

"I made it." Jiang Xue didn't even glance at Ji Chen; she was busy folding paper airplanes for the two children to play with.

I need to make time to draw all the blueprints that the villagers will be choosing tomorrow morning.

Ji Chen's cold face was filled with disbelief.

I wondered, could it be that every lazy woman has potential, and only children can unleash this deeply buried potential?

He asked again, puzzled, "You did this?"

Jiang Xue calmly hummed in agreement and then picked up a piece of white paper to prepare to draw.

"Lend me some blank paper first, I'll buy some and return it to you in a couple of days, I'm a bit busy these days."

Jiang Xue treated Ji Chen like a business partner, showing him the utmost politeness and respect.

Ji Chen put down the book in his hand, unable to contain his curiosity, "Why are you using white paper?"

He realized that speaking like that made him seem petty, so he quickly changed his words, "I didn't mean anything by it, you can use it, I just don't know what you'll use it for."

As soon as he finished speaking, Ji Chen wished he could disappear into a crack in the ground. He was actually curious about this lazy and shameless woman.

He clenched his fists, holding his breath, unable to look at Jiang Xue.

The two sat together at a square table, with Jiang Xue facing Ji Chen.

Jiang Xue raised an eyebrow, her alluring eyes fixed on Ji Chen. "What? Curious about me?"

The look in his eyes sent chills down Ji Chen's spine, and his heart inexplicably began to pound wildly.

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Ji Chen glared angrily at Jiang Xue before looking down at his book.

But I just couldn't get into that book; something always felt off.

Jiang Xue seemed like a completely different person in the blink of an eye, drawing the design drafts seriously and attentively.

That look Jiang Xue gave Ji Chen just now was simply a reminder that since they were going to divorce sooner or later, they shouldn't interfere too much in each other's private lives.

The children's laughter made Ji Chen put down his book.

He caught a glimpse of Jiang Xue sitting in the dim light, her skin glowing white, and her posture elegant and composed.

He couldn't help but turn all his gaze to Jiang Xue, who was wearing an elegant and simple gray and white plaid shirt, with long black hair hanging down to her waist. At that moment, a breeze came in from outside the door.

Jiang Xue didn't put down her pen; she used one hand to brush her wind-blown hair behind her ear.

Ji Chen stood there dumbfounded. For a moment, he felt that Jiang Xue resembled one of the city's high-class intellectuals, not only cultured but also possessing excellent temperament and appearance.

At this moment, Jiang Xue gave him a feeling of being far beyond his reach. For a fleeting instant, he seemed to see Jiang Xue's entire body radiating light.

He realized something was wrong and turned around abruptly.

You've misread it, you've misread it. She must not have rested well lately. This woman is always throwing tantrums and saying all sorts of things.

Ji Chen recalled Jiang Xue's previous foul language, her reckless cursing at people, her unreasonable behavior, and how she would strip naked and wave her arms around in front of him for no reason.

He couldn't help but shiver. "I've already started looking for a place for you."
