Chapter 10 Completely Unfounded Stories

Xie Xiaotian's eyes widened, her heart filled with surprise and joy. She ran to the kitchen door and looked at Ji Chen, wanting to ask but not daring to, pacing back and forth.

The veins on Ji Chen's forehead bulged, and he gave Xie Xiaotian a cold look.

"Don't listen to her nonsense, it's all baseless." Ji Chen forcefully suppressed his anger.

Xie Xiaotian pouted, stomped her feet angrily, snorted, and ran crying into Liu Aiyue's room.

After washing the dishes, Ji Chen, feeling icy cold, went inside.

He picked up the book, feeling irritated and frustrated, finding it increasingly annoying no matter how he looked at it.

Seeing Jiang Xue drawing the blueprints so seriously, completely nonchalant, he felt increasingly uneasy.

"Watch your words from now on."

Jiang Xue was startled by Ji Chen's sudden words, and she patted her chest in fear.

She cried out, on the verge of tears, "I was so scared! I was so scared!" She kept patting herself.

She seemed to remember something, "What did you just say?"

Ji Chen wished he could crumple the book in his hand into a ball and throw it at Jiang Xue's face.

He took a deep breath and said calmly, "It's nothing, I'm just talking to the child."

Jiang Xue quickly breathed a sigh of relief, "Oh, I thought you were calling me for something. You go ahead with your work, I won't bother you anymore."

Ji Chen clenched his fists tightly, feeling as if there was a wall blocking his heart, making it hard to breathe.

But seeing Jiang Xue so focused on drawing, he felt embarrassed to overstep his bounds, so he suppressed his displeasure and buried himself in his book.

Ji Chen, who had a restless night, bought wheat seeds early in the morning, and also bought some vegetable and radish seeds.

After changing her clothes, Jiang Xue saw Ji Chen mixing seeds in the yard. Curious, she went up to him and asked, "Aren't you going to work today?"

"Didn't you ask me how to grow wheat yesterday?"

"Thank you, but you'll have to accept those kinds of clothes." Jiang Xue helped the two children change their clothes.

"Your aunt will take you to play on the ridges of the fields."

Jiang Xue's trouser legs were wet with dew. She and Ji Chen each carried a small baby as they went to the field.

Ji Chen rolled up his sleeves and used a hoe to loosen the soil.

As Jiang Xue efficiently mixed the seeds according to Ji Chen's instructions, she instructed Ji Chen, "Plow deeper, bury the seeds my parents planted deeper."

If the seeds are buried deeper, they won't sprout, and they won't steal nutrients from the wheat.

Ji Chen stopped what he was doing, his face full of embarrassment. "Won't they come after me for this?"

"Don't worry, I already gave them a heads-up."

As soon as Jiang Xue finished speaking, a series of cursing and swearing voices came from behind.

"What are you doing? I've already planted the seeds inside!" Jiang Chunsheng stormed up to Ji Chen and snatched the hoe from his hand.

Ji Chen stood frozen in place, not knowing what to do in this situation.

Jiang Xue wasn't going to tolerate her father's exploitative ways of taking advantage of his daughter, so she stepped forward and snatched the hoe from him.

"Ignore him, let's get to work." Jiang Xue felt that they were not on the same wavelength at all, and saying another word would be a waste.

Jiang Lai walked up and pushed Jiang Xue away, saying, "What do you want to do? We've already planted the seeds. If you want to plant them, you'll have to wait until next year."

Upon seeing this, Ji Chen immediately stepped forward and shoved Jiang Lai back, saying, "Why are you hitting a woman?"

When Xie Chunmei and Jiang Chunsheng saw their son stagger backward after being pushed by Ji Chen, their expressions changed drastically.

Xie Chunmei, like a shrew, lunged forward to hit Ji Chen, shouting, "How dare you treat your brother-in-law like this? Is there no law anymore?"

Jiang Chunsheng pointed at Ji Chen and shouted, "The son-in-law beats his brother-in-law and wants to ruin our seed. What a shameless scoundrel!"

"You're a scoundrel, we're going to report you!" Xie Chunmei cursed through gritted teeth.

Jiang Xue was so angry that she burst into laughter. What a bunch of illiterate people!

Upon seeing this, Jiang Lai vanished in a flash.

Before long, Jiang Lai arrived with the village party secretary, the women's federation director, and many villagers, including Xie Xiaotian.

Jiang Xue sneered, "There are so many people who are just bored and have nothing better to do than meddle in other people's business."

"Village Secretary, please be the judge for us. We've already planted the seeds, and now they're going to destroy my crops." Jiang Lai pointed at Jiang Xue with a sidelong glance, looking aggrieved at the village secretary.

Before the Party Secretary could even speak, Xie Xiaotian's aunt rushed forward and launched into a tirade against Jiang Xue.

"Your laziness is known throughout the surrounding villages. Now you're ruining the crops. How can you face the people who have shed so much sweat?" She glared fiercely at Jiang Xuehou.

She grabbed Ji Chen's arm. "She gave the land to her family to cultivate, and now she wants to take it back. Isn't she just deliberately making fun of you?"

This whole mess left Jiang Xue completely bewildered; no matter what they said, it could be interpreted in any way, whether it was the right way or the wrong way.

Ji Chen awkwardly pulled his arm away.

The village party secretary, hands on his hips with an air of righteous indignation, said, "My father-in-law has already planted the seeds. Isn't this a waste?"

"That's right, don't we grow crops just fine every year? Living life isn't about having grand dreams or doing whatever comes to mind."

"I guess she was afraid that Ji Chen would divorce her, so she rushed to do this."

The villagers were all talking at once, discussing the matter animatedly.

......

Jiang Xue shouted directly into the crowd, "I have already notified you in advance. If you continue to slander me without any evidence, I will use legal means to protect my personal reputation and dignity."

"Ha ha ha ha......"

The people in the field burst into laughter.

Xie Xiaotian, who was hiding at the very back of the crowd, was laughing the loudest.
