Chapter 10 Departure for Shanghai

Mother Sheng spat and said, "That girl is anything but honest."

I knew about buying and selling secondhand goods even when I was a child, and I never got caught.

When she grew up, she learned to sell herbs and even haggle with the shopkeeper. Such a shrewd girl was anything but honest.

"No, we're going to ask Sheng Yueqing for the money right now."

Although Sheng Dahu didn't think Sheng Yueqing would steal the betrothal gifts, he still went over to check.

When they arrived at Sheng Yueqing's new homestead, they discovered that the young couple had already disappeared.

Mother Sheng slapped her thigh in anger, "Damn it, that brat must have run off with the money."

She went to the police station to report that they wanted to arrest Sheng Yueqing, but the police asked her to produce evidence.

Mother Sheng had no evidence; she simply believed that Sheng Yueqing had stolen her betrothal money.

The police thought she was being unreasonable and naturally wouldn't help her arrest anyone.

Mother Sheng cursed and swore that she would make Sheng Yueqing pay in the future.

Sheng Yueqing was on the train at that time.

Trains in the 1980s also had a very large passenger volume.

The entire train corridor was packed with people.

The staff selling cigarettes, melon seeds, and snacks have to shout out if they want to pass by.

Sheng Yueqing bought two sleeper tickets, since it would take several days to get from here to Shanghai.

She shared a bunk bed with He Yushen, and there were two other men in the carriage.

The two men kept their eyes on Sheng Yueqing, as if they were appraising merchandise.

He Yushen had a gut feeling that they weren't good people, so he let Sheng Yueqing sleep in the lower bunk with him.

Sheng Yueqing waved her hand, "This sleeper berth is so narrow, it can't fit two people at all."

He Yushen insisted, however, that he always felt the two men were human traffickers and was afraid his wife would be abducted.

He insisted that Sheng Yueqing sleep in the lower bunk with him no matter what.

Seeing that she was stubborn, Sheng Yueqing had no choice but to sell the upper bunk to a vigorous old lady.

The two men didn't expect He Yushen to be so wary, and they glanced at him.

He Yushen immediately glared at him.

He was already tall and muscular, and with his tanned skin, he looked intimidating, which immediately made the two men afraid to look at him.

Sheng Yueqing smiled silently.

He Yushen is particularly good in this respect; he is very protective of his own people, and coupled with his strength, he makes me feel very safe as a husband.

She'll sleep on the lower bunk for a while, then switch shifts with He Yushen in the evening.

He Yushen said no need, "I'll just sleep on the floor."

He lay down immediately.

Because of his height, when he stretched out his leg, his size 43 foot dangled out of the carriage.

The corridor was already full of people when those big feet suddenly stretched out and stomped on the face of a man who was sleeping soundly, deforming his features.

The man was startled and exclaimed, "Whose stinky feet are those?!"

Sheng Yueqing almost burst out laughing.

He Yushen sat up, tied a rope around Sheng Yueqing's waist, and then tied the rest of the rope around his own waist, so that he wouldn't have to worry about his wife being stolen away.

Sheng Yueqing was also afraid of encountering bad people, so she let him be.

The next morning, while Sheng Yueqing was still half asleep, she felt someone carry her on their back.

Next came the action of tying up a pig.

She opened her eyes half-asleep, saw He Yushen, and then fell asleep again.

I didn't wake up until after 10 o'clock.

At this moment, everyone on the train was eating cornbread, along with hot water they had brought from home.

Sheng Yueqing looked down and saw that she was still on He Yushen's back, so she asked He Yushen to put her down.

He Yushen untied the ropes after seeing that she was awake.

With a diligent expression, he said, "Wife, I just went to heat up some steamed buns for you."

He was a diligent person; he would go out early in the morning to help the staff prepare breakfast and even help them hawk their wares.

Half of the people taking the train are reluctant to buy food, but some will.

As long as the price isn't too high, most people will buy some steamed buns and porridge.

He Yushen is good at math and can make change quickly. He helped the staff sell a lot of breakfasts that morning.

He didn't want any wages, just some hot water and four vegetable buns.

Seeing him carrying a woman who was unconscious, the staff assumed that Sheng Yueqing had a health problem. Out of sympathy, they gave He Yushen an extra steamed bun.

Sheng Yueqing....

She just took a nap and suddenly became a poor person with health problems...

She glanced at He Yushen sideways and said, "You're really something."

He Yushen smiled slyly, "I just can't sit still, I want to make more money."

He knew that everything cost money when he went out, so he wanted to earn more.

But fearing that his wife would be stolen if he left, he simply carried her on his back.

My wife is a good sleeper; she sleeps soundly even when he carries her around. It's so reassuring.

Sheng Yueqing again...

I don't even know what to say about him.

However, when looking for a partner, you need someone who is considerate like this. He Yushen not only earned her hot buns, but also prepared hot water for her to wash her face.

Sheng Yueqing felt a warmth in her heart.

The old lady on the upper bunk saw that she had three steamed buns in her hand and reached out to ask for one.

"Girl, I don't think you can eat three buns by yourself, give me one."

That big hand was stretched out with such confidence; you'd think the steamed buns belonged to her family.

Sheng Yueqing replied with a smile, "Sure, five cents each. Do you want one or two?"

The old woman's face stiffened. "I could buy a bowl of beef noodles for five cents! Why don't you just rob me!"

Sheng Yueqing smiled and took a bite out of each of the three buns. "Since you don't want them, then forget it."

She has no compassion for shameless people.

The old lady was furious. "I bought you the top bunk, how can you be so stingy?"

Sheng Yueqing replied while eating, "You bought the top bunk so you could sleep in it, not so I could sleep in it. Why should I be generous?"

The old lady was unhappy. "Then I won't buy it. Give me my money back."

Sheng Yueqing chuckled, "We've already slept together, and now you're telling me you don't want it? Then let the sun set again, and let yesterday happen again."
