Chapter 3 Severing Relationships

Zhang Dahua was furious that they still wanted Sheng Jinjin after all this fuss. She cursed loudly.

"You shameless bastard! Sheng Yueqing has already been sent to your new house, and you still want to defile my second daughter? Bah!"

"You can only take Sheng Yueqing with you today, otherwise I will tell the police that you are being a hooligan and bullying my two daughters."

"We'll arrest you all and charge you with hooliganism!"

Old Mrs. He was truly taken aback, and she and her daughters-in-law stared at each other.

The daughters-in-law were quite shrewd. "Go ahead and call the police. Anyway, you got the wrong bride, so it's only natural that we want the original bride back."

When Sheng Jinjin heard that she was going to the He family again, she burst into tears.

"Mom, I'm not going."

This old lady He looks like someone you shouldn't mess with, and her daughters-in-law are even more shrewd. If you go there, you'll be tormented to death.

She wants to marry a city man, not the He family.

Zhang Dahua knew that this matter couldn't be settled without money, so she had no choice but to reluctantly take out one hundred yuan.

"This hundred is to be given to Sheng Yueqing as part of her dowry."

She was shrewd too; she wouldn't give money to Zhang Dahua.

It was stuffed directly into Sheng Yueqing's hand.

What I wanted was for Old Mother He to torment Sheng Yueqing.

Sheng Yueqing put the money into her spatial storage and sneered, "Mom, I didn't agree to this."

"I'm going to marry into the Lu family, and I need to go there later to explain."

Zhang Dahua, hands on her hips in anger, said, "You unfilial daughter! You've already married into the He family, how dare you go back to the Lu family?"

"Besides, it's the parents' decision to arrange their children's marriages. Today, I'll make the decision and marry you off to the He family."

Sheng Yueqing looked at her coldly, "You've been bad to me since I was a child, and now you want to harm me?"

Knowing full well that the He family was a mess, they still insisted on harming her.

"Fine, since you're so heartless, don't blame me for being ruthless too."

"We're severing ties today. We'll never see each other again, and don't come looking for me even after you're gone."

Zhang Dahua retorted angrily, "How dare you curse me?"

She was now eager for Sheng Yueqing to leave, and called Sheng Jinjin to bring paper and pen, saying, "If we're going to sever ties, then so be it. Since you're unfilial, don't blame me for being ruthless."

Sheng Yueqing knew that the letter severing ties had no legal effect; what she wanted was to expose her mother's ugly face.

The village chief felt it was inappropriate, saying, "She's still your mother, don't really get angry with her."

Sheng Yueqing knew that the villagers were best at persuading people to be magnanimous, so she put down her pen.

“Okay, since she’s my mom, let her put my name on the land certificate, and Sheng Jinjin and I will each have half.”

Zhang Dahua objected, "No way!"

This house is for her retirement; she can't possibly give it to Sheng Yueqing.

Sheng Yueqing gave the village chief a wry smile, "See? I treat her like my own mother, but what does she take me for?"

Everyone else couldn't stand it.

"This house was originally built for you with money earned by Yueqing. You're being too biased."

Zhang Dahua didn't care what they said; she only cared about money.

Sheng Yueqing's goal wasn't the house; she wanted to get a separate household registration so it would be easier for her to move out in the future.

Although many rules changed in the 1980s, it was still very inconvenient for a woman to travel long distances without proper documentation.

Zhang Dahua also wanted to prevent Sheng Yueqing from getting a house, so she agreed to let her separate her household registration.

However, to separate household registrations, one needs a house. Fortunately, Grandpa Sheng used to have a dilapidated house at the very end of the village, so dilapidated that it was uninhabitable.

But the land title deed does exist.

Sheng Yueqing wanted the house transferred to her name so she could be the registered owner.

Zhang Dahua initially disagreed, but the village chief declared, "If she can't have the old house, then she can have half of the new house."

Zhang Dahua was reluctant to part with it, but thinking that the old house was too dilapidated to live in, she decided to give it away.

Since they've already given me the old house, I can forget about getting a new one.

The village chief wanted to say something, but Sheng Yueqing shook her head, "Forget it, just consider it a gift to her. After I get married, I'll have Jinjin find a son-in-law to live with us, and the new house will be their wedding home."

The villagers felt that Sheng Yueqing was too generous, and that Sheng's mother was not human.

Sheng's mother didn't expect her reputation to be ruined so quickly. She wanted to lash out, but the village chief had already taken Sheng Yueqing to deal with the household registration issue.

Household registration is not so easy to obtain. The village chief suggested that she transfer He Yushen's household registration out of the village, and it would be easier for the two of them to form a household registration book than for her to have her own.

Sheng Yueqing recalled how He Yushen always unconditionally trusted and favored her in her past life. Sharing the same household registration with him in this life wasn't out of the question.

However, Old Mrs. He was eyeing the money in Sheng Yueqing's hands.

Chao Shengyueqing reached out her hand, "You're a daughter-in-law of the He family now, give me a hundred yuan."

How could Sheng Yueqing possibly give it to her? She gave her a lot in her past life, so she shouldn't expect a single penny in this one.

She spread her hands, "No money!"

Old Mrs. He's face fell. "You wretched girl! My family paid such a high dowry to marry you, and you dare not return it?"

As she was about to make a move, He Yushen immediately stepped in front of Sheng Yueqing to protect her.

"Mom, don't do it!"

Old Mrs. He was furious. "You brat, get out of my way!"

He Yushen wouldn't let her go, and pulled Sheng Yueqing away to run outside.

"You brat, come back here right now."

He Yushen didn't listen to her.

Sheng Yueqing told him, "Go to town first, I need to buy some things."

The two spent a few cents to take a tractor to town.

The tractor chugged along the country road. Sheng Yueqing sat in the back, looking at the fields on both sides of the road. She remembered that in her previous life, she felt that there was no future in working in the village, so she took He Yushen to the city to open a shop and make money.

He Yushen was observant and hardworking, and with her skills, the two opened a pastry shop.

Because of its delicious taste and affordable price, the business has been booming.

In this lifetime, she wants to return to her old profession, expand the shop, and ideally reach a higher level.

"Honey, what are you thinking about?"
