Chapter 11 The Blood Mold is Coming

Although they weren't bad people and wouldn't usually do anything bad to others, Liu Guoqing, with his youthful ingenuity, actually came up with a solution within a day. He simply improved Xia Ruqian's method.

Xia Ruqian's eyes sparkled as she listened and said, "This idea you came up with is better than mine!"

"Of course!" Liu Guoqing was very proud.

Xia Ruqian's expression suddenly changed, and she said fiercely, "Then don't you think about these things every day?"

Liu Guoqing's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly protested, "My dear grandma! Why am I dwelling on this all the time? I'm already worrying about farm work every day!"

Xia Ruqian snorted and said, "That would be great, but I was just kidding. I know a little bit about what kind of person you are."

The villain in Liu Guoqing's heart breathed a sigh of relief. His great-grandmother was truly capable of changing in so many ways.

After the two people discussed it, they started to act.

Liu Guoqing went to the town to buy some wine that day, and sat in the fields to invite people to drink.

Liu Guoqing is a nice person and is usually willing to help his fellow villagers. He has a good reputation in this area, so he is happy to sit with me and have a drink when I take a break from work.

A burly man took a sip of beer and said, "Is this also alcohol? It's too bland."

Liu Guoqing chuckled and said, "You don't know this. This is the fashionable drink in the city, called beer! What a bunch of country bumpkins!"

The men didn't care about the word "cowardly". The man asked curiously: "Leather wine? Is it made of leather?"

Men who are used to drinking strong liquors such as white wine and yellow wine really don't like this thing that tastes like no alcohol, is not much different from drinking water, and is more expensive than water.

"It's not that kind of skin! They say this is made from northern wheat. You know wheat? It's the kind that can be ground into flour to make buns and dumplings!"

Xia Village is located in the south, and its main crops are rice, wheat, etc., which no one has ever seen.

Although the beer is not strong, it is refreshing to drink, and it is free.

Everyone was talking excitedly when Liu Guoqing spotted Huang Zhong coming along the ridge of the field.

"Hey! Isn't that Ah Zhong from Tile Village? Come over and have a drink!"

Although they are different village names, we are close to each other and the fields are staggered, so we are quite familiar with each other.

Since the men all greeted him together, Huang Zhong was not polite.

The men were chatting and drinking very lively, and it took a long time for them to disperse. Huang Zhong was almost drunk. Of course, Liu Guoqing did not do it obviously. Everyone was urging each other to drink, and Huang Zhong was forced to drink a lot.

To be honest, Liu Guoqing was a little reluctant to give up these wines because they were fashionable items and were not cheap, and they cost Xia Ruqian a lot of her private money.

"No... I can't drink anymore. I have to go to class tonight!" Huang Zhong's face flushed, his tongue tied, and he raised his hand with a finger raised.

Beer is not intoxicating, but Huang Zhong is not a good drinker, and some man took out two bottles of white wine from his home and shared them with everyone to satisfy their cravings. Even though it was a mixed drink, it was natural to get drunk easily.

Liu Guoqing supported him and said, "I think you shouldn't go tonight. How can you listen to the class like this? The whole classroom will reek of alcohol, and the teacher won't be happy. How about I ask for leave for you and then lend you my notes to copy?"

Huang Zhong was persuaded and staggered along the ridge of the field to go home. Liu Guoqing wanted to throw him into the field. Who told him to treat his sister-in-law like that? But it would be unkind of him to fall and destroy someone else's crops.

Liu Guoqing sent Huang Zhong back home, and everyone greeted him. Some expressed concern for his health after drinking so much, while others reprimanded the person who had given him the drink. Liu Guoqing stood there, and no one said anything like "thank you for your hard work," let alone offered him a glass of water.

Liu Guoqing didn't stay any longer and hurried out. Feeling the weirdness of this family, Liu Guoqing also felt that he must not become a brother-in-law with such a family. Although they were relatives, why would such a weirdo care about these things?

In the evening, Liu Guoqing had no choice but to let Xia Ruqian follow him.

"It's pitch black at night, what are you doing there? What if you step into a ditch? It will be more trouble than good!" I learned a new idiom tonight, and it comes in handy.

Xia Ruqian snorted, "Of course I have to go and watch the fun. I won't be happy if I don't see him fall into the pit. I spent so much money!"

Liu Guoqing thought to himself that he was really destined to be with such a girl, but didn’t he like her straightforward personality?

Two people stood guard outside the toilet. Toilets today weren't flushable like they are now, not even cement. Better-off families dug a pit in the ground, half-buried a vat, and placed two wooden boards on top. To use the toilet, they simply stepped on the boards. Poorer toilets were incredibly filthy. Huang Zhong's toilet was one of those unimaginable ones. They couldn't afford to bury a large vat in the ground, so they dug a pit without even a wooden board, just a few rocks. The rocks weren't stable, and squatting there required complete concentration. You couldn't squat like you do in the 21st century, looking at your phone while you do it. Furthermore, the roofs leaked. If it rained outside, it rained inside too. Some had no roof at all. On a rainy day, not only muddy water but also fecal matter came out.

Xia Ruqian scratched herself and asked, "Are you sure you've done everything?"

Liu Guoqing felt sorry for her suffering here. The area near the toilet was the most mosquito-infested place. He was a big, rough man, so it was fine, but wasn't she, a delicate girl, here to feed the mosquitoes? I guess the mosquitoes here had never tasted such sweet blood.

"I'm absolutely sure, his toilet is absolutely awful. I've never seen one so filthy..."
