Chapter 138 A harmonious family

When Grandpa Xia arrived in the yard, Grandma Liu and Grandpa An were coaxing Dudu to memorize the multiplication table. The old man was shocked when he heard this. Other girls had to wait until second or third grade to memorize multiplication tables. The two girls who were currently in school hadn't even started memorizing them yet. How could this child, who hadn't even started kindergarten (actually, his mother didn't want him to go), already be learning this?

The old man couldn't help it and rushed to the door. Unexpectedly, the person inside lifted the curtain first and said, "It's sunny outside, come in!"

Old Master Xia walked into the house with his hands behind his back.

"I'm Zheng Zheng's father, and I just arrived today." Xia Chunfu introduced himself first.

"Oh, Zhengzheng told us that you will be here soon to help her look after the children. She also said that she hopes we can sit together and talk more." Grandma Liu was quite enthusiastic, with a smile on her face. She always had a cold face towards others.

Old Master Xia felt that one should not hit someone who smiled at him, and that he seemed to be a good person.

Grandma Liu brought Xia Chunfu a plate of fruits and said, "Old An will come out to say hello to you later. He's reciting the multiplication table to the child right now! If it weren't for something important, he wouldn't interrupt the child."

Xia Chunfu nodded, thinking of what Xia Ruzheng said. Grandma Liu and Grandpa An were both educated people. It was really luck that the children could learn from them. Other families wanted to learn but didn't have the chance!

The sound of Dudu reciting the multiplication table came from next door. Xia Chunfu tilted his ear to listen and it seemed that he really didn't stutter at all. It seemed that he was reciting it quite smoothly. Could this child really be that talented?

"Zheng Zheng talked about you and said that you have always taken care of him and he is very grateful to you." Xia Chunfu said to Grandma Liu.

Grandma Liu smiled and said, "You really have a good daughter. We did help a little, but the couple treated us just as well! They never forgot us when they had something delicious, and they would send us a portion of anything new. We don't lack anything, but this is the child's thoughtfulness, right? Sending something once or twice might be a spur of the moment, but to always remember it means they care about us."

Xia Chunfu had no idea that his eldest daughter was such a good person, so he agreed repeatedly. But in his heart, he felt that his daughter had finally grown up and no longer needed her to worry about him. The spoiled, arrogant, and unreasonable daughter was gone, and time had polished her into the sensible, intelligent, and interpersonal-skilled daughter she is today.

After a while, Dudu and Grandpa An came out. Grandma Liu introduced Xia Chunfu to Grandpa An. After Dudu came out, he walked straight to Xia Chunfu and climbed onto his lap to sit. He didn't feel strange at all.

Grandma Liu exclaimed in amazement, "This child never actively approaches others. Apart from his parents, others have to see if he's willing to touch him. I didn't expect him to be so close to Grandpa."

Xia Ruzheng had complained to Xia Chunfu about Dudu's personality, but he hadn't described it in detail. Xia Chunfu had assumed his grandson was a rather quiet person, and he hadn't expected such a thing. But Grandma Liu's words also made Xia Chunfu very happy. This was his real grandson!

Grandpa An laughed and said, "Isn't it? We had to hang around him for quite a while before he let us hold him. Otherwise, he would have looked unhappy when we held him. Now that he's familiar with us, it's okay. If he were with someone else, it would be even worse. Just be careful next time."

Everyone was talking about the children, and the distance between them was invisibly shortened a lot. Xia Chunfu thought this was really good.

She picked up the watermelon from the plate and handed it to the child on her lap. Dudu started to eat it by himself. After eating, he put the watermelon rind aside without throwing it away, and spit the watermelon seeds into the small plate handed to him by Grandma Liu.

"This child is very particular. Zheng Zheng said that he won't go out unless his clothes are properly dressed and his hair is combed."

Grandma Liu smiled happily.

Xia Chunfu wiped the watermelon juice from his grandson's mouth and said, "He's really a child with a unique personality."

"Isn't it? The key is that his brain is still working well. I've met some smart people, but it's rare to find someone like this kid. Last year during the Chinese New Year, the young couple and Juan'er and her daughter didn't go home, so they had the New Year's Eve dinner in our room! The children were coaxed into performing, and guess what? This kid recited "Pipa Xing"! Actually, the poem was mainly taught to the two girls, but I didn't expect him to remember it right away. Look what a good memory he has!"

So that's how it is! Xia Chunfu was also a little shocked. He didn't expect this little grandson to be so smart! Zheng Zheng didn't say anything on the phone, just saying that the two girls did well in the exams and that the teacher often praised them. He thought the two girls were smart enough, but he didn't expect this grandson to be even smarter!

After sitting and chatting for a while, Grandma Liu took Dudu's hand and went to play, while Grandpa An and Xia Chunfu sat together and chatted.

Grandpa An was considered an intellectual, as his ability to maintain his own safety for those ten years was crucial. He had also represented the country at numerous international academic conferences and was, in short, well-informed. Xia Chunfu, on the other hand, had spent most of his life in Xia Village, the furthest he had ever been was the city, and it was only thanks to his daughter that he had even made it to the provincial capital. It was hard to imagine two people with such different life stories having anything in common, but unexpectedly, they actually found a common ground.

At the beginning, the two old people were talking about their children. The baby was lively and cute, could dance, and had a good voice; Ni'er was calm but smart; this child was introverted, and so on. Xia Chunfu smiled and said that the baby's temperament was like her mother's. He couldn't stop talking when he talked about Xia Ruzheng's childhood. She said that when she was a child, she could sing, dance, and play the piano. It was just that the years were bad and an old piano was burned. The child cried so much that she took a book and imitated how to play. After ten years passed, she hurriedly bought a new one.
