Chapter 87 Returning Home

It was really boring in the car and not many people were playing poker. After all, the psychological trauma left by those ten years was still too large to be estimated. The voices of people chatting were quite loud at the beginning, but then gradually became quieter.

After spending most of the day on the train, we finally arrived at the provincial capital station.

Wen Zhichao and Xia Ruzheng got out of the car. The packages they carried were extremely heavy. Fortunately, they soon met Liu Guoqing and Wen Zhichao's two brothers who came to pick them up.

When relatives meet, they are naturally very excited. They shake hands for a long time before parting.

Liu Guoqing came on a bicycle, and Wen Zhichao's brother also rode Wen Zhichao's bicycle. However, it looked much older, and it must have been used a lot in the past year.

Xia Ruzheng didn't take it to heart. For a couple, a bicycle was not a valuable thing.

They first went to find a place to eat. Xia Ruzheng felt that the provincial capital was indeed worse than Guangzhou. It was not as lively. The place where he ate was a state-owned restaurant. It was expensive and the food was not tasty. The waiters were also arrogant.

After a quick meal, I took a bus to my hometown, and then went back from the city.

The big car was also packed, with several bicycles tied to the roof.

After wandering for a few more hours, we finally arrived in the city, and the only way to go from here was on foot.

Xia Ruzheng glanced at Wen Zhichao with some resentment, wondering if he had been living too comfortably in Guangzhou. He felt exhausted after just one trip.

It was midnight when they arrived home. Xia Ruzheng wanted to keep Liu Guoqing overnight, but his mother-in-law was the head of the family, so Liu Guoqing said he wanted to go back and bring Xia Ruqian and their son over tomorrow. Xia Ruzheng felt a little happier.

After eating a bowl of fried egg noodles and washing up quickly, Xia Ruzheng and Wen Zhichao climbed onto the bed. They didn't even have the strength to turn over and fell asleep directly.

When I woke up the next day, it was already early in the morning. My sisters-in-law were all at home, but my brothers were not.

Seeing everyone's expectant eyes, Xia Ruzheng knew what was going on, and hurriedly pulled out two large packages for distribution.

"Besides, the clothes in Guangzhou are quite cheap and of good quality! Zhichao and I used our connections to buy these. The state-owned factories don't even have this style or color! This is for Mom, try it on!"

The dress Xia Ruzheng chose for his mother-in-law was dark red, but it was embroidered with flowers. Although it was machine-embroidered, it looked unique and exquisite. The style was also good and not bulky at all, making her look younger when she wore it.

My mother-in-law was a little shy: "Does it look good? Is the color a little brighter?"

Xia Ruzheng helped tug at the hem of her clothes and said, "No, it's perfect for your age! It looks stylish and beautiful! Many mothers-in-law in Guangzhou dress like this; it's convenient for working and warm!"

My mother-in-law touched the fabric of the clothes and said, "I'm afraid it's quite expensive, right?"

Xia Ruzheng said, "I told you, I bought it through connections. It's a small private factory, so it's not easy to sell. I have some inventory, and because of our good relationship, I gave them a discount! I have to make it clear today, otherwise you still think these clothes are expensive! Guangzhou is similar to Shanghai, the prices are cheap, and there are many colors and styles to choose from! It's not worse than Shanghai products! This dress would definitely cost dozens of yuan to buy in our provincial capital, but I only bought it in Guangzhou for ten yuan! Mom, don't worry, we haven't been home for more than a year, and it's a rare trip back, so buying you something nice is our duty!"

The mother-in-law was moved by what she said.

Xia Ruzheng also took a pair of cotton trousers and a pair of shoes for his mother-in-law, both of which were very warm and thick.

After giving my mother-in-law her share, the next step is for my sisters-in-law.

Xia Ruzheng didn't pay attention to anything else but the price. He bought things of similar value so as to avoid feeling unbalanced over a difference of one or two dollars.

"This dress is for my eldest sister-in-law. She's thin, and this dress makes her look even thinner. It's light and beautiful! This pair of shoes is for my second sister-in-law. I know your feet are prone to frostbite, so I bought you a pair with fur lining! They're so warm! This dress is for my third sister-in-law. You have a big chest and a thin waist, so I even asked a tailor to make some alterations for you, to make the waist a little tighter. It's going to look great on you!"

As the gifts were distributed one by one, the sisters-in-law became much closer. After all, it's not wrong to be lenient when receiving gifts from others.

Each child was given a pair of corduroy pants, a cotton jacket and a pair of shoes. The shoes didn't have to be warm or of good quality, as long as they were novel.

"I bought them based on everyone's size. If anyone's size is too big or too small, come find me and I'll alter it for you in the next few days so you can wear it for the New Year!"
