Chapter 45 The Huang Family's Trouble

After haggling for almost ten days, the two sides finally agreed on a price. Then, after sending the betrothal gifts according to the procedure, Mrs. Du sent her eldest daughter to the old widower's home.

It was like buying something, negotiating a price. The betrothal gift was the price, and the eldest daughter was the commodity. Despite this, the Huang family's eldest daughter didn't dare complain. She was the oldest in the family, even older than Xia Ruzheng. The Huang family had no money, and compared to Xia Ruzheng, she wasn't as pretty, let alone a good reputation. Everyone knew the Du family's ways and could imagine what kind of character her daughter would have. Marrying her would be a troublemaker. No one with any sense would want to marry a Du family daughter. Therefore, the market value of the Huang family's daughter was indeed very low.

Most people would try to avoid such a situation, but the eldest daughter of the Huang family didn't think of resisting. Mrs. Du had already warned them that marrying into a wealthy family was impossible. And all the sisters were like this. As long as the sisters married similarly, there was nothing to complain about. But if one sister married well, the others wouldn't agree. It's not the lack of wealth that's worrying, but the inequality.

The Huang family was embarrassed to hear about this, but at this point, they couldn't care less about their reputation; they were just waiting to exchange their daughter for money. However, the Xu family, as in-laws, felt deeply ashamed. How could they be related to such a family? Others wouldn't think of the Xu family as their in-laws, but when they talked about it, they couldn't help but think of them as in-laws. And then they looked at the Huang family's other in-laws. Wouldn't others have the same impression of the Xu family as the other Huang family in-laws? And if someone like that were Xu Xianhua's brother-in-law, you could imagine how damaging their reputation would be.

Father Xu has been irritated by his daughter countless times. Other people's children are naughty, but his daughter is the most irritating, causing him more anger than his several sons combined.

"Don't worry about her life or death from now on! It's so embarrassing. She wanted to marry into that kind of family, and now she's bringing shame upon us! It's really... it's really..." Father Xu usually only scolded his son and never scolded his daughter. For a moment, he felt that he couldn't even say anything.

Yang's face was filled with gloom, and she increasingly regretted her momentary weakness in allowing her daughter to marry into such a family. If it was Du who had bullied her daughter, she could have gone to the house and made a scene, but marrying off Du's daughter was her own family affair, and she couldn't possibly interfere in other people's affairs. But every time she thought about this, she felt as sick as if she had swallowed a fly.

The Du family had successfully married off their eldest daughter, Huang Damei. It wasn't long before word spread that this was the case. Xia Ruzheng, now active, soon caught wind of the news. However, the Huang family's affairs were no longer of concern to her, so she simply smiled and let it go. No one delved into the reasons behind this, simply believing it was typical of the Du family. Having sold Huang Damei, it was likely that Huang Ermei would be the next to go.

This incident not only shows that Du was a cruel mother, but also that Huang Zhong was a heartless person. If Huang Zhong had stopped Du from selling his eldest sister, Du would definitely not have been so cruel, and Huang's eldest sister would not have suffered so much. But he didn't, and he probably would have been content to enjoy the money he got from selling his sisters!

This made Xia Ruzheng even more disgusted with Huang Zhong. In his previous life, he had seen him being quite caring towards his sisters, and he had thought he wouldn't be so cold-hearted towards his family. He had never expected that in this life, he would see Huang Zhong's true nature so clearly.

While others treated it as gossip, Xia Ruzheng was filled with emotion. She felt fortunate in her life that she did not marry that devil again and did not fall into that devil's den. Otherwise, she would have had no chance of getting out of this life.

As time went by, father and daughter gradually got used to life without Xia Ruqian. When Xia Ruqian returned on the third day, she seemed fine and had become closer to Liu Guoqing. Life at her in-laws' house was probably off to a good start. After finally returning, she didn't say anything good and instead started urging Xia Ruzheng to get married quickly to avoid worrying them.

Xia Ruzheng rolled his eyes when he heard this. This guy didn't enjoy his honeymoon days, but instead worried about him.

"If you're willing, I'll let my mother-in-law meet you! Although Grandma Chunhua is a matchmaker, she can never be as accurate as someone who knows her own face."

Do you turn into a mother-in-law after you get married? Just like Jia Baoyu said, when a girl gets married and is exposed to the foul smell of a man, she turns from a pearl into a fish eye.

"Stop worrying about it and tell me how you're doing. Guoqing is a good person, but he has a lot of brothers and sisters at home, and sisters-in-law, aunts, and mothers-in-law. I'm afraid he has a lot of lawsuits, right?"

Xia Ruqian didn't care at all and said, "Every family has an account book like this, right? How many are as clean as ours? Don't worry, I can handle it. If there are any difficulties, I won't hide them to myself. I will discuss it with you during the National Day holiday. If all else fails, I will come back to discuss it with Dad and you. I'm not that stupid!"

Xia Ruzheng knew Xia Ruqian's personality and knew that she would not be so easy to bully, nor did she like to keep everything in her heart and feel miserable.

Unexpectedly, Xia Ruqian turned the topic to Xia Ruzheng again: "I asked Guoqing about Wenzhi Chaoren, and Guoqing said he was a good person and a loyal friend. As a man, he is responsible and his father seems nice too. I think if he has the same intention, you should agree to it!"

Xia Ruzheng was about to retort, but she held back and sighed. She had never met Wen Zhichao in her past life, nor had she heard of him before, but based on her current impression, he was quite good. However, Xia Ruzheng had other things on her mind, so she told him about what happened the day after the wedding.
