Chapter 26: Rescue people in the family compound!

Chapter 26: Rescue people in the family compound!

Su Mengxue's brows knitted together instantly. She looked at Gu Yunting and said, not understanding why: "Gu Yunting, you..."

"Since I promised my dad to take you there, I can't go back on my word." Gu Yunting said coldly, then he grabbed her wrist and walked quickly towards the jeep not far away.

Before Su Mengxue could react, Gu Yunting stuffed her into the back seat. He slammed the car door shut with such force that the car body shook twice. Then he quickly walked to the passenger side, opened the door and sat down.

"Gu Yunting, I don't need you..." Su Mengxue was about to get angry when she saw his reluctant look, but she noticed the man sitting in the driver's seat. He was Gu Yunting's orderly and the man who took her to the department store last time.

In front of Gu Yunting's subordinates, Su Mengxue still wanted to save some face for him. After all, she was living in the Gu family now, and when you are under someone's roof, you have to bow your head.

"Let's go to the Hepingli family compound first." Seeing that she didn't say anything else, Gu Yunting turned his head and instructed Wang Qi.

Wang Qi responded readily, "Yes, Captain!" After that, he started the car, and the car quickly and smoothly merged into the traffic flow.

Su Mengxue had nothing to say to the two of them. She leaned sideways and looked out of the car all the way. She was full of curiosity about everything in the 1980s.

The streets were dotted with grayish-gray brick houses, and the buildings on either side were not very tall, with slogans painted on the walls: "Hard work brings wealth; laziness brings shame." There were not many cars on the streets, and most people rode 28-bar bicycles, humming little songs.

After her curiosity subsided, she focused her attention on the clothes of the people passing by. She looked along the way and saw that most of the men were wearing blue and white striped sailor shirts or white shirts, paired with army green overalls and a belt around their waists. Occasionally, there were people wearing sportswear. Most of the women were wearing braids and Dacron shirts, paired with khaki or black trousers.

She stared at the poster of Teresa Teng posted at the door of a nearby audio-visual store. With the introduction of Hong Kong and Taiwan films and European and American culture into the mainland in the 1980s, it would not be long before bell-bottom pants and bat-sleeved floral shirts would set off a fashion storm here. This was also a great opportunity for her to quickly make her first pot of gold.

Just as she was thinking about the business opportunities in the 1980s and how to make a big splash here, Gu Yunting suddenly said in a cold voice: "Get out of the car."

She was startled to realize the car had stopped. She looked up, but there was no sign for the Hepingli Family Compound. She was about to ask when Gu Yunting said impatiently, "The car is turning left. Get off here. Turn right at the next intersection and it's about 200 meters away."

Couldn't he just send her there? How much time would it take him? Su Mengxue pouted and pushed the car door open. Just as she was about to get out, she heard him add, "If you want a ride back, wait here at 4pm. No waiting after that time."

Gu Yunting's voice was too cold, and everyone could hear the perfunctory tone in his words. Su Mengxue frowned. Gu Yunting had to agree to her request under the pressure of Gu Changhe, but she was not the kind of person who would go to extremes.

She raised her eyebrows and deliberately raised her voice, "I'll take the bus when I go back, so I won't bother Captain Gu."

She emphasized the word "trouble" and slammed the car door shut without waiting for Gu Yunting to say anything.

Just as she was about to take a step forward, the jeep beside her suddenly roared out, and the exhaust fumes and dust flew all over her face. It looked so anxious, as if it was in a hurry to get rid of something dirty.

Su Mengxue looked at the direction where the jeep was going, put her hands on her hips and stamped her feet, and cursed Gu Yunting a few words in a bad mood before continuing to move forward.

Fortunately, after walking for a while, she saw the sign of Hepingli Family Compound. She looked up and saw that this place was completely different from the old building where Gu Yunting lived. There were no old-style buildings and the atmosphere of time accumulation here. Six-story red brick buildings stood in a row, and the beige exterior walls did not look old at all. It was clearly the style of the new urban area.

She walked straight to the sentry stationed at the door, told him her name and the person she was looking for, and the sentry questioned her a few more times before letting her pass.

This family compound was much larger than Su Mengxue had imagined, but it was empty and there was not a single person in sight.

She was mumbling the address of Xu Rong's home and was worrying about the house number when she suddenly saw a young man in front of her.

"Comrade, wait!" She shouted and quickly chased after him. Before she could stop, she saw the man raise his hands to cover his head, and after shaking twice, he fell straight to the ground.

She was stunned for a moment and then quickly reacted. She rushed closer and saw that the man's forehead was oozing with cold sweat and his lips were pale. He was lying on the ground with his eyes closed and motionless, obviously unconscious.

"Comrade, wake up, wake up... wake up quickly..."

Su Mengxue called out several times, but the man didn't respond. She looked around and saw no one was around. She squatted down and gently patted his shoulder, but the man still didn't move.

She stretched out her finger and touched his nose, only feeling a faint breath. Her heart tightened and she immediately recalled the steps of CPR in her head.

Then she sat astride the man, quickly unbuttoned two of his shirt buttons, placed her hands on his chest, and began to press hard and rhythmically.

She continued pressing for a few minutes and saw that he still showed no signs of waking up. She didn't bother to wipe the sweat off her face, but leaned over to his face, pried open his jaw and pinched his nose, closed her eyes and tried her best to pass the air in her mouth into his.

Just as she was giving the man artificial respiration, his tightly closed eyes suddenly trembled. He slowly opened his eyes and met Su Mengxue's delicate face.

It was not until he cried out in surprise that Su Mengxue suddenly came to her senses and opened her eyes.

As their eyes met, Su Mengxue saw a handsome face so close to her. Her eyelashes trembled under the man's gaze, and she explained, "I'm giving you artificial respiration! Please don't misunderstand me."

The next second, the man turned his face away and covered his mouth to cough a few times. Then he looked at her slowly and said, "Comrade, can you let me get up first?"

Su Mengxue reacted instantly, quickly jumping off him and stepping aside. The man propped himself up with his arms, feeling a dull pain in his chest from the pressure, but he didn't bother to rub it. His eyes were fixed on her red earlobe as he asked, "You?"

As soon as the man finished speaking, Su Mengxue responded: "I was passing by here, and I saw that you were not breathing, so I..." She knew very well how conservative people of this generation were, and was afraid that the other party would misunderstand, so she hurriedly explained.

The man smiled gently at her: "I'm a doctor. I know you're trying to save me. Thank you very much, but I still want to remind you that next time you encounter this kind of situation, don't press too hard, otherwise it will easily cause secondary damage to the patient."

Su Mengxue's eyes couldn't help but fall on his slightly open shirt. The red mark on his chest left by the pressure was particularly clear, and she suddenly felt embarrassed and her cheeks turned hot.

Just when she didn't know what to say, the man spoke again: "My name is Lu Yuanzhou, and I'm a cardiac surgeon at the First People's Hospital. Thank you for saving me just now. If you need my help in the future, you can always come to the hospital to find me."

Su Mengxue looked up at him. He had a handsome face and a gentle air all over his body. No wonder his temperament looked different. It turned out that he was a doctor.

She nodded in agreement, a warm feeling passed through her heart, and she felt a little fortunate that this man was not saved in vain. She had just arrived and needed connections, and she might be able to use him someday.

Then she remembered that the man also lived here, so she asked, "Do you know where Room 13, Building 7, 2nd Floor, is?"

Lu Yuanzhou's eyes darkened and he asked her, "Are you looking for Aunt Xu?"
