Chapter 63: Being scolded in public!
The little girl named Jiang Shiyi timidly raised her head, her eyelashes trembling, her cheeks flushed, and she said softly with a thick southern accent, "Uncle Gu, hello."
Gu Changhe couldn't help but look at the little girl in front of him. She had delicate features, a thin body, and a sense of restraint all over her body. She didn't look like the lively figure in his memory who ran around the yard holding a bamboo helicopter.
He suddenly thought of how much she must have suffered during the years she was away from home. To be honest, Yun Ting was also responsible for her disappearance. He felt heartbroken and guilty.
His throat rolled heavily a few times, and he responded with tears in his eyes: "Hey, my dear child, you have suffered a lot outside these years. It's good that you are back, it's good that you are back..."
He kept muttering the words "I'm glad you're back". His hoarse voice concealed the unspeakable guilt and debt that the Gu family had felt towards Jiang Shiyi over the years.
When Jiang Weilong saw this, a deep meaning flashed in his eyes.
Su Mengxue realized that her stay here was a bit redundant, so she stood up and said to Gu Changhe, "Grandpa Gu, I have something else to do. You guys chat, I'll leave first."
Gu Changhe finally came to his senses. Shi Yi came back suddenly, and he was afraid that Meng Xue would misunderstand her and Yun Ting, but he couldn't explain it clearly in front of Weilong and Shi Yi.
After hesitating for a moment, he could only say hesitantly: "Mengxue, when you have time in the future, remember to come and take care of grandpa often."
Su Mengxue smiled and replied, "I understand, Grandpa Gu."
After she finished speaking, she walked out. Her eyes soon met Jiang Shiyi's. She saw that Jiang Shiyi's eyes were full of curiosity and scrutiny towards her. She turned her head and looked away.
When she passed Jiang Weilong, she saw a sharp flash in his eyes. Before she could think about it, she heard him say with a smile: "Uncle Gu, Shi Yi came back in a hurry. I haven't informed Yun Ting yet. He will definitely be happy when he knows."
Su Mengxue was of course clear about what Jiang Weilong was thinking when he deliberately mentioned Gu Yunting in front of her. She sneered in her heart, she didn't care about Gu Yunting, so he was really worrying too much.
The only thing she was worried about when she walked out of the ward was that Jiang Shiyi had returned. The fact that Gu Yunting was in solitary confinement could no longer be concealed. She was afraid that the old man would be angry if he knew about it, but she couldn't stop Jiang Weilong, so she could only leave with a heavy heart.
…
Su Mengxue stayed in the hospital for another two days before completing the discharge procedures. Only then did she find out that Gu Yunting had paid two hundred yuan for her. She thought that she would find an opportunity to return the money to him in the future.
She just walked out of the hospital with her things when she ran into Lu Yuanzhou. She had clearly told him again and again yesterday not to ask for leave, and this man just agreed without hesitation, but now he appeared in front of her again.
When Lu Yuanzhou saw Su Mengxue appear, he ran forward in two steps, took the bag from her hand, and told her that the car was parked not far away. Seeing that he was already here, Su Mengxue didn't say anything more. Just as she was about to walk forward with him, a figure suddenly blocked their way.
The person who came was a middle-aged woman wearing a cheongsam. She had a dignified look in her eyes and exuded nobility in her every move.
Zhu Li's eyes pierced Su Mengxue like a knife, then turned to look at Lu Yuanzhou and scolded him, "Yuanzhou, have you been asking the aunt to cook all the meals for her these days? If Suqin hadn't kindly told me, I wouldn't have known you were secretly associating with such a shady person."
Lu Yuanzhou's face suddenly changed when he heard this. He leaned forward to block Su Mengxue, frowned and retorted: "Mom, what do you mean by a person of questionable character? You are also an educated person, how can you speak so harshly? Mengxue is not what Aunt Sun said. You misunderstood her."
Zhu Li glanced at Su Mengxue, a sardonic glint in her eye. "Misunderstanding? Everyone in this circle knows about her and Gu Yunting's affair. She resorted to all sorts of underhanded tactics to marry into the Gu family. Now that she sees the Jiang family's daughter back and can't keep up with Gu Yunting, she's thinking about you again."
After she finished speaking, she sneered at Su Mengxue and said in a more serious tone, "The Lu family is not a garbage recycling station. Do you think you can get in? You're just dreaming!"
Su Mengxue dug her fingers into her palms to barely suppress her anger. If someone else had said that to her, she would definitely have fought back, but she was Lu Yuanzhou's mother, and Lu Yuanzhou treated her so well, and she didn't want to put Lu Yuanzhou in a difficult position.
She took a deep breath, a stern look on her lips. "Auntie, you're slandering me like this, just like a street shrew. I respect you as my elder, so I'll pretend I didn't hear what you said today. But if there's a next time, don't blame me for not considering Yuan Zhou's face."
Lu Yuanzhou followed closely and said, "Mom, what you said is too much. You should apologize to Meng Xue immediately."
"Yuanzhou, you want me to apologize to a woman like this? She doesn't deserve it." Julie looked disgusted.
Just as Lu Yuanzhou was about to speak, he heard a deep voice: "Aunt Zhu, I know Su Mengxue's character ten times better than you do. If you don't take back what you said today, don't blame me for not recognizing you as my elder!"
Gu Yunting's eyes were as sharp as a blade, and the air pressure around him was terrifyingly low. He completely ignored Julie's face that turned pale in an instant.
Su Mengxue saw Gu Yunting suddenly appear beside her and blurted out, "Gu Yunting, aren't you imprisoned... why are you here?"
Gu Yunting glanced at Su Mengxue, his eyes filled with anger. He ignored her and turned to look at Zhu Li. He said in a deep voice, "Aunt Zhu, let me make it clear to you first. Between Su Mengxue and me, I was the one pursuing her the whole time. There is no such thing as her using despicable means to get close to me as you said."
"As for me and Shi Yi?" He said, his eyes unconsciously glancing at Su Mengxue. After a pause, he added, "I've always treated her as my sister."
Seeing Gu Yunting defending Su Mengxue everywhere, Zhu Li recalled what Sun Suqin said yesterday and understood how much he cared about Su Mengxue. She forced a stiff smile and said unnaturally, "Yunting, I misunderstood her."
Gu Yunting took a half step forward and said in a firm tone, "Aunt Zhu, you should show some sincerity when admitting your mistakes. You should apologize to her."
Zhu Li frowned slightly. This wild girl from the countryside, relying on her beauty, actually let Gu Yunting openly teach her a lesson for her. However, she also knew Gu Yunting's character. Out of consideration for her feelings, she looked at Su Mengxue and reluctantly squeezed out a sentence: "I misunderstood you. I hope you don't take it to heart."
Su Mengxue turned her eyes away without saying a word.
Zhu Li lost face in public and didn't want to stay here for long. She turned to look at Lu Yuanzhou and ordered, "Yuanzhou, take me home."
Lu Yuanzhou's mind was full of what Gu Yunting had just said. He was in a daze when Zhu Li dragged him out. He stumbled a few steps before coming to his senses and refusing, "Mom, I can't go home with you yet. I want to take Mengxue back."
Zhu Li gave him a sharp look and warned him, "Are you so tactless? Do you really have to stand here and act like a light bulb?"
Lu Yuanzhou curled his lips and explained, "Mengxue doesn't like Brother Yunting, so why should I be a light bulb?"
As soon as the words fell, Su Mengxue spoke: "Lu Yuanzhou, go back. Gu Yunting and I have something to talk about."
