Chapter 29: Lost Something

Lin Yulan was originally leaning on the bed. When she heard the quarreling and crying outside, as well as the various noises of the conductor and crew getting closer and closer, she subconsciously hugged Su Jianwei in her arms.

"It's okay, Mom is here."

Su Jianwei felt warm in her heart when she was protected in someone's arms for the first time.

She listened to the noise outside, held Lin Yulan's hand with her left hand, and her right hand dug into the quilt, where a small knife with a sheathed blade appeared.

Although Su Jianwei was already alert, she looked at the passengers opposite her who had woken up and said softly to Lin Yulan, "Well, I'm not afraid as long as my mother is here."

The young couple across the street, the girl hid in the boy's arms, grabbed his sleeve and said, "Chen He, I'm a little scared!"

The boy named Chen He turned around and put his girlfriend at the foot of the bed, then said seriously, "Don't be afraid."

As the only... stupid man in this carriage, he had to be brave.

"I'll go out and ask to see if it happens..."

Before Chen He could finish his words, the door of the box was suddenly opened.

"Check your ticket and destination."

This time the inspection was very strict, even the ID cards were checked. Although the luggage was not searched, any items that looked wrong were touched.

The most important thing is that this time, no matter what you say, Captain Liu must leave as long as you don’t have a sleeper ticket.

Seeing that the investigation was so strict, Su Jianwei knew that something must have happened outside, or someone was being looked for.

Su Jianwei held down Lin Yulan who was about to get off the bed and said, "Mom, you stay here. I'll go out."

Lin Yulan grabbed Su Jianwei's arm and said, "No, how can a child like you be out there alone?"

Su Jianwei has been independent for too long and has never considered herself a child, but Lin Yulan does.

She put on her shoes and pressed Su Jianwei onto the bed. "I'm going out."

Su Jianwei looked at Lin Yulan's tough attitude and said, "Then I'll go out with you to find our seats."

Lin Yulan shook her head. "I'm not a child. You stay here and look after the luggage. I'll just grab my coat and go out."

"I'll come find you when it's daybreak."

Not only Lin Yulan left the carriage, but also the boy from the young couple opposite and a little girl on the upper bunk.

Although Su Jianwei did not leave with Lin Yulan, he stood at the door and watched her walk into the carriage.

When he could no longer see Lin Yulan, he looked in the direction the conductor and the others had left.

Su Jianwei did not rush back to the carriage, but listened to the discussions of the people around him at the door to see if he could get any information from their chat.

"I don't know what you're doing so late at night?"

"It looks like he lost something!"

"What's so important? I saw several flight attendants coming over."

"My only concern now is whether I can get back the extra fifteen dollars I gave the flight attendant."

Su Jianwei glanced at the man, then turned and returned to his carriage.

The two girls opposite, not knowing whether they were scared or what, were now sitting together on the lower bunk. Seeing Su Jianwei come back, they took the initiative to ask, "Classmate, do you know what happened outside?"

Su Jianwei shook his head and said, "I don't know. He said he seemed to have lost something."

"You don't even take care of your own things. We're on a train, and some traffickers might take your things away!" The girl on the upper bunk said as she hurriedly took a look at her luggage.

She breathed a sigh of relief when she found that her luggage was not missing.

"I don't know if my boyfriend has found a seat. It must be tiring to sit on the bench outside all night." The female voice of the young couple leaned on the bed, hugging her knees and said.

"He's a boy, and boys should be more willing to pay attention. Are you going to go out?"

The girl said with a sad face, "When we came in, they passed by our carriage. The people sitting around us were all some not-so-clean farmers. There were shovels and spades in bags on the ground, and they were all covered in dirt. It was filthy."

"There are so many grown men here. It's so dangerous for a girl like me to sit there."

"My boyfriend loves me the most, he definitely wouldn't let me go through that." The girl began to choke up as she spoke. "I thought traveling would be fun, but why are there so many problems? I wouldn't have come out if I had known."

The girl on the upper bunk curled her lips and said nothing. Instead, she looked at Su Jianwei who was sitting in the middle of the bed opposite her and said, "Where are you going, classmate?"

"Hangzhou."

Su Jianwei is used to covering his tracks.

"What a coincidence! I got off at the next stop after you." The girl couldn't sleep and became interested. She asked, "Are you going out to play or do something else?"

"Visiting relatives."

"What about you?" Su Jianwei threw the subject back.

The girl sighed and said, "Let's go out and have fun before we get married."

"Meeting is fate. My name is Meng Jiao. What are your names?"

The sadness was fleeting, and the girl immediately asked Su Jianwei and the girl next to her happily.

"My name is Wang Jingjing."

Su Jianwei followed suit and said, "Su Wei."

Su Jianwei spoke so quickly that the two girls across from her only heard the word "Wei". Remembering that Su Jianwei's mother had called her "Weiwei" before, Meng Jiao called out directly, "Weiwei, you look young, are you in high school?"

Su Jianwei actually doesn't like this kind of chat style that involves questioning people's background, although this method is the fastest way for the other person to understand him.

Su Jianwei nodded.

Next, Meng Jiao took the initiative to chat for a few sentences, but when she found that Su Jianwei had no desire to chat, she just chatted with Wang Jingjing beside her.

While the two were chatting, Su Jianwei habitually analyzed the people and things in front of him.

Meng Jiao comes from a well-off family, but the girl traveling with her comes from an ordinary family, or in other words, not very well-off.

So from the moment she entered the carriage, the girl basically acted as a follower and was always ordered around by Meng Jiao.

It is estimated that Meng Jia was afraid of going on this pre-wedding trip alone, so he found a companion for himself.

The young couple in front of us are relatively simple, and there is basically nothing to delve into.

Except when Wang Jingjing was talking about the migrant workers in their carriage.

Su Jianwei didn't know much about that era. Passengers brought all kinds of things with them. Migrant workers even got on the bus with shovels and spades, and it didn't seem to be a problem.

As for the big guy on the upper bunk who hadn't said a word from beginning to end...

Just as Su Jianwei thought of this, he was attracted by the voices of the two girls opposite.

"You're not talking about migrant workers, are you? What can you do with such a narrow and oddly shaped shovel..."

"Really, I just took a look and the man picked up the bag!" Wang Jingjing explained.

Su Jianwei listened to Meng Jiao's voice and watched Wang Jingjing's measuring movements, and suddenly thought of something that fit Wang Jingjing's description.

That thing is called a whirlwind shovel, and it is a tool for digging and robbing tombs.
