Chapter 114 Red Envelope

Bai Junbo has no time to care about Chen Ziming and Chen Tiezhu's affairs. Let them go wherever they want. His main task now is to bring Xiao An back to Beijing.

"Young Master Bai, Chen Ziming said to wait for you, he..."

"Shut up, are you his mouthpiece? You bring up every single nonsense he says in front of me. You're getting more and more tactless." Bai Junbai drove with his eyes fixed straight ahead, but his face was extremely impatient.

The bodyguard realized that things were not going well. After returning to Beijing, he would probably disappear from Bai Shao's sight and no one knew where he would be assigned in the future.

The road to Shanhe Town was winding and steep. Bai Junbai's face darkened. He should have driven an SUV.

After driving a third of the way, he couldn't keep going and had his bodyguard take over driving, giving him a few instructions.

"Take it easy, don't hurt yourself." Then he leaned back against the cushion and closed his eyes to rest.

It took three hours to drive all the way back to the county from S city, and now we've been bouncing around for another twenty minutes. It would be strange if I wasn't tired.

The bodyguard drove steadily all the way to Shanhe Town. He stopped the car and said to another bodyguard, "Wake up Young Master Bai."

"Why me?" Young Master Bai is very grumpy when he wakes up. The fact that he's not awake means he hasn't rested enough. Who would dare to provoke him at this time?

He'll definitely get beaten up.

“I have to drive, I’m busy. If you’re free, you should call him,” the bodyguard said matter-of-factly.

The two bodyguards started arguing, each trying to shift the blame. The two, who were usually quiet and reserved, started shouting at each other until they woke up the young master.

"Shut up, are you old hens or old ducks? Why are you making such a racket? Can't you be a little more composed?" Bai Junbai opened his eyes in a bad mood and rubbed his temples in annoyance.

"Drive a little further ahead, and stop when you see a snack shop with a sign that says 'Old Zhang's Snacks'." This was what Zhao Ting told him. Lin Xiazhu has a house in town that she rents out to someone to run a snack shop.

"Bai Shao Lao Zhang Snack Shop is closed and not open for business." Bodyguard Two was eager to make his presence known.

"I have eyes, I can see." Enough with the nonsense. "You two go down and search around, find them quickly."

Thankfully, it wasn't market day, or he would have exploded. Just thinking about the deafening noises that surrounded him last time made his head start buzzing.

"Rat poison, two packets for one yuan."

"Selling vegetable seeds, vegetable seeds, cabbage seeds, water spinach seeds..."

"Orange, orange, very sweet orange, sweeter than sugar."

"Apples, golden sand fruits, and pears that are as sweet as sugar."

Bai Junbai shook his head violently, quickly interrupting his thoughts. His mood worsened. Who knew that after so many years, he could still remember every single word of those small vendors' hawking cries?

The two bodyguards got out of the car and went for a walk. Bai Junbai was trying to calm down when someone knocked on the window. He thought it was the bodyguards and immediately erupted like a volcano.

"Fool, Shanhe Town is such a tiny place, do you need me to show you the way?"

The car's sound insulation was pretty good; Lin Xiazhu could roughly hear the person inside getting angry, but she couldn't make out what he was saying. If she hadn't guessed that Bai Junbo was there to see her, she wouldn't have bothered to come over and say hello.

"What a bad temper?" Lin Xiazhu muttered. "Hey, if you have something to say to me, get off the bus quickly. I have things to do."

Bai Junbai had already seen her and realized he had lashed out at the wrong person. He felt a little embarrassed, but he didn't show it. He quickly got out of the car.

"Xiaozhu, the test results are in."

"Xiao An is your older brother's son."

"You already know?" Bai Junbai said with some annoyance. He had chased him all the way to town. Wasn't the matter obvious?

For some reason, he always felt that every time he and his bodyguards came to this small place, there was a risk of them losing their minds.

Lin Xiazhu's feelings were also a little complicated, but she didn't think about it for the time being. She said, "My uncle's family is having a happy occasion. Do you want to come and have a big meal together?"

"A grand feast?"

"There are many dishes for weddings, which we people here usually call a big meal."

"Is that even a question? Otherwise, where am I supposed to eat lunch?" It's almost lunchtime now.

"I'm afraid you won't be used to it. There will be a lot of people. Think it over carefully." Lin Xiazhu gave him a heads-up in advance so that he wouldn't be picky later.

"Xiao An is here too, and I'm sitting at the same table with her."

"Okay, here you go." Lin Xiazhu took out a red envelope from her pocket and handed it to him.

"Huh?" Bai Junbai didn't quite understand.

“If you’re going to eat out, you have to give a gift. You have two bodyguards, and they eat such big meals. Eating out at a restaurant costs money too. You’re not short of a few dollars.”

Lin Xiazhu didn't feel awkward at all. She would give the red envelope to her uncle and say it was from Xiao An's family, which would make Xiao An look good.

Bai Junbai took out his wallet from his pocket and was about to stuff all the cash inside into a red envelope when Lin Xiazhu quickly stopped him.

"Just put the hundred-yuan bills in, and forget about the fifty-yuan and ten-yuan bills."

"Not enough?"

"Why think so much? Who would put together such a bunch of odds and ends to give as a red envelope? If people knew, they would say that he had put all his savings in it; if they didn't know, they would say that he was so poor that he had to dig out his spare change."

Lin Xiazhu took the money from his hand, returned the change to him, counted the hundred-yuan bills, there were more than a dozen, she took out six to make a red envelope, and returned the rest.

"Isn't this too little? Don't embarrass me and Xiao An." This guy quickly included Xiao An in his group and even knew that this was a donation for Xiao An.

"There are so many! This red envelope of yours is definitely the biggest one today. It'll scare them to death if I tell them." Lin Xiazhu rarely joked like this.

However, she wasn't exaggerating. In the countryside at that time, the most extravagant gift was a hundred yuan, many people gave fifty yuan, and even thirty or twenty yuan were common. Six hundred yuan was considered a huge sum.

Lin Xiazhu went home and brought out a few stools. Her uncle's family didn't have enough stools, and they had already borrowed some from other families yesterday. But her uncle had invited a lot of people, and since the children didn't have to go to school during the summer vacation, they all came, so there weren't enough seats.

"Are you waiting for your bodyguard?"

Bai Junbai gave her a look that said, "Are you kidding me?" and told her to wait for the bodyguard. Did the bodyguard want to die?

Lin Xiazhu understood. "Let's go then. It's not far ahead. We can just call someone over to tell them to go back for dinner later."

"Put the stool in the trunk, and I'll drive you there."

Actually, it's probably because he doesn't want to walk.

"No need, it's only a hundred or two meters away, why bother with a car? Making such a big fuss won't do, it'll overshadow the bride and groom." I heard last night, when they picked up the bride, they used a van.

Bai Junbai didn't insist and followed Lin Xiazhu. He then said with some dissatisfaction, "Why didn't you tell me about your cousin's wedding? You guys were always running off the other day, were you actually going back to town to help with the wedding arrangements?"

Seeing his expression that said everyone else knew, but he was the last to find out, Lin Xiazhu felt confused.
