Cha Cha recognized Song Cheng just by the bicycle bell; her ears are incredibly sharp.
Lin Xiazhu put down her work and went out to greet them. She saw Lin Chacha walking over with a tall, slender boy, all smiles.
Is this Song Cheng?
He has a very delicate appearance, and at first glance he really looks a bit like a girl, but you can still tell he's a boy. He's about 1.8 meters tall, with fair skin, and his eyes look very gentle at Cha Cha, with a radiance that others can't understand.
The two of them walking together actually look quite presentable, if you ignore their age.
Song Cheng parked his bicycle next to a tree, carrying a bag of juicy apples in his hand. He looked a little reserved and walked over with Lin Chacha.
"Song Cheng, this is my eldest sister. Eldest sister, this is Song Cheng."
"Big...Big sister, hello." Song Cheng smiled awkwardly, suddenly unsure of what to do with his hands and feet.
"Hello, come in. Don't be too reserved. Chacha, take Song Cheng to Chacha's to watch TV, and bring the fruit platter upstairs." Lin Xiazhu responded with a gentle smile.
She couldn't read minds and couldn't immediately discern Song Cheng's character, but her first impression of him was quite good. His eyes were upright, and aside from being a bit shy, he didn't make any mistakes.
"No need, I don't want to watch TV. I'll help in the kitchen." Song Cheng handed a bag of apples to Lin Chacha and then rolled up his sleeves to wash the vegetables.
He was wearing a dark jacket, a worn-out sweater in the middle, a faded blue thermal undershirt underneath, wide black trousers, and faded Warrior sneakers.
They exuded poverty from head to toe, but they were all very clean, and their demeanor was also very pure.
Lin Xiazhu glanced at it briefly. Poverty wasn't the problem; the key was whether the person was good or not. Character and conduct were also very important. She would observe them first.
Before long, Zhang Yu and the others arrived, laughing and joking as they went into the kitchen to help. They couldn't not help, for fear that Xiao Zhu would lecture them; they had to be self-disciplined. They had already developed good habits in front of Xiao Zhu, helping out and clearing away the dishes after meals...
"Little Song, you're here too! Long time no see. How have you been? I didn't expect you to come today." Zhang Yu laughed like a simpleton, completely unaware that Song Cheng's face was slowly turning red.
"You and Song Cheng are very close?" Lin Xiazhu walked over quietly and asked Zhang Yu in a low voice.
"I've known him for a long time. We used to go to Xiaoquan Town a lot together, and we played together back then. But Song Cheng is a good boy; he doesn't steal chickens or do any of our dirty tricks."
His parents passed away one after the other when he was five years old. He was later adopted by his aunt from the same village. His aunt was a good person, but his uncle and his aunt's mother were not. They often beat and scolded him when his aunt was not at home. Two years ago, he was admitted to a vocational school, but his uncle did not want him to go. It was only after his aunt and uncle had a fight that he was allowed to go.
Zhang Yu clearly knew a lot about Song Cheng's situation and knew a lot about him as a person. "Actually, his grades have always been very good. His grades were more than enough to get into the top high school, but his uncle was afraid that he would have to pay for the tuition if he went to university, so he wouldn't let him go. He also thought of this, so he applied for a vocational school."
“He used to have to help with farm work at home and couldn’t come out to earn money. Now that he’s an adult, he comes out to work with me on the construction site during the summer vacation to earn his own tuition. His aunt’s family doesn’t have to pay for it, so his uncle stopped making a fuss.”
Zhang Yu said he was very hardworking and knew how to be grateful. His aunt's family was poor, and after paying his tuition, he would secretly give any money he earned to his aunt.
“His aunt is good to him, and he knows how to care for her. His aunt is not in good health and is reluctant to eat nutritional supplements, so Song Cheng will secretly buy them for her. But if his aunt’s mother finds out, she will snatch them away. That mother is very difficult to get along with.” Zhang Yu shook her head.
He sounds like a nice young man. If he's sincere towards Cha Cha, then it's a good match.
“You said he’s an adult.” Lin Xiazhu grasped the key point.
“Yeah, he’ll be twenty after the New Year. Is that normal? Do you think everyone is like your kids, starting school so early? Song Cheng’s age is the normal age,” Zhang Yu said seriously.
Lin Xiazhu glared at him, but didn't say anything more. She felt a little relieved after finding out enough. At least for now, Song Cheng was a worthy candidate. However, people can change. He was good-looking and hardworking, but who knew what would happen in the future.
Song Cheng is really capable. He cooked most of the dishes today, with Cha Cha helping out. He's an all-around good guy. He's good at studying, good at housework, and good-looking. Except for his family being poor, he's perfect.
"Mmm, it tastes really good. Song Cheng, your cooking skills are almost as good as Xiao Zhu's. You won't starve if you become a chef in the future," Zhang Yu said, eagerly taking a bite of the stir-fried beef with bean sprouts and praising it highly. "But Cha Cha, you're too clingy to Song Cheng. I never see you coming over when I'm cooking?"
Even the oblivious Zhang Yu belatedly noticed something else about her slender figure, and tentatively laughed it off.
Song Cheng blushed slightly, and even the usually thick-skinned Lin Chacha blushed, loudly trying to cover it up, saying, "How can you compare to Song Cheng? You're so rough, Song Cheng is a refined person." (Cough, he's the person she likes.)
"Ah, Chacha, you've hurt me so much! I've been so good to you, and you still despise me!" Zhang Yu clutched her chest and cried out dramatically.
"Time to eat, stop acting." Lin Xiazhu sighed in exasperation. So what if she's in her twenties? She's still acting like she hasn't grown up.
Zhang Yu and the others wanted to drink, and they also smoked, but Lin Xiazhu forbade them from smoking in her house. They had to go outside to smoke, as she didn't like the smell of smoke, so no one smoked.
