Yan Xin has a terrible temper when she wakes up. In the past, if she hadn't had enough sleep and the maid dared to bother her, she would throw her pillow, blanket, or even sheets at her as weapons.
It was only five in the morning when Yan Xin was woken up. She yelled in annoyance and reached for her pillow, but it was hard and heavy, and she couldn't move it no matter how hard she tried.
"If you keep dawdling, I'll leave you here alone." Lin Xiazhu snatched the pillow from Yan Xin's hand and threw it onto the wooden bed with a thud.
Yan Xin was jolted awake by the voice that made her heart tremble. Damn it, she had almost forgotten that she had transmigrated and had long since lost the right to throw a tantrum.
"Don't leave me behind, I'll get up and come with you right away." After a moment of chaos, Yan Xin had already dashed out of the wooden house.
The blisters on her feet haven't gone down yet, and now she has to travel again. Will she be able to walk tomorrow after all this?
Lin Xiazhu didn't care whether she was comfortable or uncomfortable; she had to get back to Linjia Village before noon.
"Sister, sister, you've only been calling us for a few days, and you're already telling us to go home? Weren't you supposed to be watching over the mushrooms? Why didn't you stay in Tongli? What were we doing bringing so much stuff with us? Weren't we exhausted?"
She and her older sister not only had to carry loads, but also had to carry someone on their backs; it was really exhausting.
Lin Chacha spoke Yan Xin's mind; she had long wanted to grab Lin Xiazhu by the collar and question her, but she hadn't dared to.
"We didn't have money before, so why are we wasting time guarding those undeveloped mushroom buds now that we have money? It's a waste of time," Lin Xiazhu replied somewhat perfunctorily.
Before heading into the mountains, she wasn't sure if she could find the place where she had found wild ginseng in her past life, nor did she know if she would encounter wild boars again. She was prepared for a long battle.
To my surprise, everything went so smoothly. On my first outing, I found wild ginseng and even killed a litter of wild boars. Now that I have money in my hands, I feel more secure in my life and there's no need for me to stay in the mountains and live a secluded life any longer.
"Wait, wait, I need to pee, I need to use the restroom," Yan Xin, who was walking at the very back, called out pitifully to them.
"What are you yelling for? There's not even a ghost here. If you need to relieve yourself, just do it here. We don't want to smell your odor." Lin Xiazhu didn't turn her head and walked even faster.
"Don't go too far, I'm scared." Yan Xin was already crying.
"Sister, Mom's mind isn't working well right now, so let's be nicer to her." Lin Chacha was very filial.
Lin Chacha's persuasion had an effect. Lin Xiazhu stopped a hundred meters ahead and waited. She still didn't look back, but just stared at the road ahead expressionlessly.
Suddenly, Yan Xin screamed, "Ah...ahhh...help! A snake! A huge snake!"
Lin Xiazhu immediately turned around and saw Yan Xin clutching her pants and falling on the road, scrambling towards her. Lin Xiazhu frowned, picked up a carrying pole, and ran over.
A python thicker than an arm was found under a big tree. Normally, a python will not attack a person unless you attack it. But Yan Xin's brainless yelling and screaming startled the three-meter-long python.
"Hiss... Beep beep..."
The python, with its gaping maw, charged swiftly toward Lin Xiazhu, as if to swallow her whole or to coil around her and suffocate her to death.
Lin Xiazhu kept a calm expression, gripped the carrying pole tightly, and struck the python's head hard just as it charged. The snake's head slumped down, its eyes rolling back, but the carrying pole broke as well.
The snake was not dead; it twisted its body and lashed out, coiling itself around Lin Xiazhu and then tightening its grip, trying to suffocate her.
"I was going to spare your life, but you insisted on courting death, so I'll grant your wish." Lin Xiazhu cursed angrily, then channeled all her strength into her fist, and with that punch, the snake's head exploded.
For the rest of the journey, Lin Xiazhu not only had to carry someone on her back and a load on her shoulder, but she also had to drag a python weighing over 100 pounds.
When she got home, she was exhausted. She threw the python on the ground, found a low stool to sit down, and then put Lin Xiaoxue off her back.
"Xiaoxue, give the water bottle from the basket to your sister." Lin Xiazhu's mouth was dry, and she was panting as she spoke.
Lin Xiaoxue ran over and found the water bottle, then ran back and handed it to Lin Xiazhu, who drank the whole bottle in one go.
Yan Xin looked at the python on the ground, her face growing paler and paler. Linjia Village was truly a horrible place, and she didn't want to stay there for another second.
Waaaaah, when will this ever end?
Lin Chacha also put Lin Taozi down. Although she was tired, she was even more excited. She squatted next to the python with a deep smile on her face, and a suspicious liquid slid down the corner of her mouth.
"Sis, we can roast one part of this, make soup with another part, and marinate the rest. It'll last us for about ten days." Being able to eat meat for the next ten days or so—this is such a wonderful life.
"Let's take a break. We'll call Uncle over later and divide this python among ourselves." This thing can't be left out for long; it'll easily rot and spoil now that the weather's warming up. Let's divide it up and eat it quickly.
"Oh? What a pity." Lin Chacha felt a pang of regret. She only wanted to eat it herself and didn't want to share it with others, not even her uncle's family.
However, the python was obtained by the eldest sister, and she had no say in it, so she had no choice but to reluctantly part with it.
When Lin Shanfu came over and saw the python, which was thicker than his arm, his feelings became complicated again. His niece was too fierce; even he, a grown man, felt that she was far beyond his reach.
"Wow, this thing is really big. Xiaozhu, you're really something." Zhao Yinxiu gave her a thumbs up, genuinely admiring her niece.
Not only did Lin Shanfu's family receive a basin of snake meat, but other uncles and cousins who were a generation or two younger also received a basin each, while Lin Xiazhu's family only kept one basin.
One basinful was enough; she didn't want to eat until she was sick. She had also caught a few wild rabbits along the way, so she wouldn't run out of meat these days.
