Chapter Ninety-Seven: Didn't Come Back All Night

Despite her young age, she secretly liked to boss Zhao Ting around, treating Zhao Ting like their maid. In her own words,

“My mom spent so much money to hire you to do this job. You don’t think it’s just about selling clothes, do you? Once you’ve received your wages, be more conscientious. From now on, I’ll wash all my clothes for you.”

For the past two years, Zhao Ting has been washing her clothes. It's not that she's afraid of her, but she sees that she's young and thinks that helping with laundry is no big deal. So she hasn't asked Zhao Xiaolian or Lin Xiazhu about it.

She even wanted to wash Lin Taozi's clothes as well, but Lin Taozi slowly shook her head and refused, "No, my older sister said I have to be good and do my own things."

Lin Xiaoxue had never left a good impression on her, but she never took it to heart; after all, she was just a child.

However, it's going too far to throw the clothes she took off directly at her face like this. Lin Xiaoxue is eleven years old this year, almost as tall as her, but unfortunately she only grows taller and not smarter. She doesn't even know how to respect people.

After throwing away her clothes, she tried to run away, but Lin Xiazhu reached out and grabbed her by the collar, pulling her back. "Apologize to Sister Zhao Ting right now, and then quickly pick up your clothes and wash them yourself."

“She volunteered to wash me herself,” Lin Xiaoxue cried.

"Don't give me excuses. We don't have that rule in our family. You have to do your own things. What are your hands and feet for? Do you have to ask others to help you with such a small thing?"

Lin Xiazhu threw Lin Xiaoxue in front of Zhao Ting and said, "Apologize immediately."

"Waaaaah... Waaaaah..." Lin Xiaoxue just kept crying and wouldn't apologize.

"Forget it, it's not a big deal." Zhao Ting was also quite embarrassed. No matter what, Lin Xiaoxue was Lin Xiazhu's younger sister, while she was just an employee and an outsider.

“She said herself that she didn’t need to apologize.” Lin Xiaoxue continued, taking advantage of the situation.

“Sister Zhao Ting’s attitude does not represent my attitude. I cannot let this go. You must apologize to me today, and be sincere. Otherwise, you can get out and sleep on the streets.”

Lin Xiazhu kept her word. Seeing that Lin Xiaoxue hadn't moved for a while, she grabbed her and dragged her downstairs.

"Waaah... How could you do this to me? Fine, I'm leaving. I'm never coming back. Don't regret it." Lin Xiaoxue suddenly shook off her, ran downstairs crying, and then opened the back door and left.

"It's almost ten o'clock. It's not safe for a girl to be out alone. I'll go and bring her back." Zhao Ting glanced at the time, feeling a bit of a headache. She was genuinely worried that something might happen to Lin Xiaoxue.

“I’ll go too,” Xiao An said, standing up.

"I'll go too." Lin Taozi obediently put down the microphone, ready to go find the person together.

"Peach, you stay home. Chacha, you go with Xiao An. Take a flashlight with you." Lin Xiazhu herself wouldn't go; she wasn't willing.

After sitting in the living room for a while, she took Lin Taozi to bed first. It was common for Lin Xiaoxue to throw tantrums. When she was unhappy, she would storm out late at night and threaten others with her own safety. Now that someone was willing to come and bring her back, she didn't stop them.

But once she's an adult, she shouldn't be treated like this anymore. Adults have to be responsible for their own actions. If something really happens, it's her own fault, so who can she blame?

However, sometimes accidents happen unexpectedly. Lin Xiazhu slept very soundly that night and slept until dawn. She got up at 6:30 and went to wake up her younger sisters.

Lin Chacha usually gets up earlier than her, but she probably stayed up too late looking for someone last night and hasn't gotten up yet. Lin Xiazhu knocked on her door, "Chacha, it's time to get up, it's already broad daylight."

After calling her several times without getting a response, she realized something was wrong and quickly pushed open the door. The blankets on the bed were neatly folded. Cha Cha hadn't come home last night.

Lin Xiazhu's heart skipped a beat. She knocked on Xiao An's and Zhao Ting's doors again, but neither of them came back. Finally, she dragged Yan Xin out of bed.

"What? I haven't had enough sleep yet, let me sleep for a while?" Yan Xin mumbled, but her eyes never opened.

"Where did you go last night? What time did you come back? Did you run into Chacha and Xiao An when you came back?" Lin Xiazhu pulled off the quilt and dragged her to the living room.

"Hey, hey, let go! What's going on so early in the morning?" Yan Xin was going crazy. She didn't get back until almost noon, and she went to talk to Butler Chen.

He gave Steward Chen a large sum of money and asked him to help inquire about the Yan family.

She needs to sleep at least eight hours every day, otherwise she'll be grumpy when she wakes up. But right now, with Lin Xiazhu holding her, she has no room to resist. Suddenly, she's sitting in the living room, and her mind clears up instantly.

"What happened? What's wrong with you?"

"Xiaoxue threw a tantrum and ran away yesterday. Chacha and the others went out to look for her, but they haven't come back yet. I asked you if you've seen them on the street," Lin Xiazhu said, trying to control her temper.

"No, I didn't see them." When she returned, it was Butler Chen who had someone escort her back, worried about her safety on the way.

"I'm telling you, you should tone down your temper. Although Lin Xiaoxue is indeed not likable, you can't just tell her to get out every time you argue. She's still a child after all," Yan Xin said, offering a fair perspective.

Lin Xiazhu: "..." It was she who was stubborn, because she couldn't let go of the grudges from her past life, so she always took her anger out on Lin Xiaoxue, who was still a child.

But every time Lin Xiaoxue acts up, she can't control herself. Well, she really wants her to get lost. Once Lin Xiaoxue comes of age, she'll definitely throw a sum of money at her and let her go to hell.

She knew it wasn't right; after all, she was her own sister. How could she be so heartless?

Alright, enough with the sweet talk. She's just that heartless; she's always been determined to get rid of Lin Xiaoxue.

Seeing Yan Xin's bewildered expression, and knowing that she really couldn't get anything out of her, Lin Xiazhu stopped arguing with her, went back to her room to change her clothes, and before leaving, she instructed, "Taozi is still sleeping, keep an eye on her, I'm going out for a bit."

"Don't worry, I'll take good care of Taozi." Then Yan Xin went into Lin Taozi's room, lay down next to her, and slept with her.

As soon as she went downstairs, the phone in the store rang. Lin Xiazhu answered the phone, and her pupils widened in shock upon hearing the contents.

"Comrade, can you explain more clearly what you mean by Lin Chacha's manslaughter? Are you sure you've got it wrong?" Chacha just went out to find someone, how could it have resulted in a death?

"No mistake, you're Lin Chacha's family member, right? Please come to the police station as soon as possible." The person on the other end of the phone hung up after saying that.

Lin Xiazhu quickly calmed down. She ran upstairs, found Yan Xin in Lin Taozi's room, and pulled her up. "Zhao Xiaolian, Lin Chacha and the others are at the county public security bureau. As a parent, you must go there."

"What the hell?" Yan Xin exclaimed in frustration.

"Cha Cha has been taken to the police station. They say someone died. Come with me quickly." Lin Xiazhu had no patience to explain further, and of course, she was also clueless about what had happened.

"Peach, get up quickly, we need to go out." Lin Taozi was also pulled up by her.

After Yan Xin and Lin Taozi changed their clothes, Lin Xiazhu dragged them to the police station.
