Chapter Seventy-Six: Trying to Get It for Free

"What are you shouting for? Shut up!" Lin Chacha immediately covered Luo Hua's mouth with her chubby little hand.

There was no challenge at all; it felt like an unfair victory. The Luo family is too weak. Is that all they are? And they dare to come and provoke us?

Lin Xiazhu waved her hand, indicating that that was enough and it was time to go.

Lin Chacha, however, felt that wasn't enough, and said in a cute but fierce tone, "You'd better avoid us from now on, or we'll beat you every time we see you."

"You, you're bullying me! This is thuggish behavior! I'm going to report you to the police station and have you arrested!" Luo Hua howled again after being freed.

"Fine, then go ahead and report it. We'll be waiting for you," Lin Xiazhu sneered, pulling Yan Xin over. "My mom was beaten up and is covered in bruises today. If you call the police, we can all go to the hospital for a check-up together and see who's in the wrong then."

Hmph, don't be fooled by Luo Hua and her four sons being beaten and howling. In reality, apart from being in a lot of pain, there are no visible injuries. Even if they were to get a medical examination, no injuries would be found.

However, the bruises on Yan Xin's body were real. Although a medical examination would only reveal superficial injuries, they at least appeared more serious, and they would be in the right in the end.

“She has no injuries. I only hit her a few times lightly. She couldn’t possibly be injured. It’s me and my son who are injured.” Luo Hua was stunned at first, and then burst into tears.

Such fights are common in rural areas, so why is a medical examination required? It's clearly her and her four sons who were beaten!

Lin Xiazhu's purpose in coming to their door tonight was to show everyone that her family was not to be trifled with, and that they would immediately retaliate against anyone who dared to hit or scold them. No one could look down on them.

Judging that the effect was about right, she was impatient to argue any longer and wanted to take her family home.

Unexpectedly, the door to Luo Hua's house was kicked open, and two police officers in uniform entered, holding flashlights and shouting, "Who told you to fight? None of you are leaving. Come back with us and we'll get to the bottom of this."

Then, Lin Xiazhu's family and Luo Hua's family were both taken to the police station. The incident was somewhat unexpected. They had intended to settle it privately, but someone who liked to meddle in other people's business quietly reported it to the police station.

However, there was no panic. It was nothing serious, just a minor civil dispute. After the police officers from the local station understood what had happened, they mediated the situation.

Luo Hua wanted to cause a scene and demand compensation from Lin Xiazhu's family, but at this moment, the former's four sons were all full of energy and showed no signs of injury. What compensation could they possibly have?

"You started this whole thing. If you hadn't gone to someone's shop and beaten them up, they wouldn't have come after you. Look at this comrade, he's covered in bruises. If anyone has to pay compensation, it's you," the police officer said sternly.

Luo Hua was indignant and wanted to yell again, but the police officers stopped her, saying, "Alright, stop yelling. Can't you be quiet this late at night? Since nothing serious has happened, go home and stop causing trouble." It's so late, and you still have the energy to make a fuss? Don't you let people rest?

So the matter was dropped. After leaving the police station, Luo Hua and her sons were still quite arrogant, cursing and swearing endlessly. However, when Da Lin and Xia Zhu glared at them, they immediately shrank back and ran far away.

Lin Xiazhu didn't take today's incident too seriously. Anyway, no one would dare to cause trouble again. The shop had also hired a new person, a seventeen-year-old girl who graduated from junior high school last year and could write and calculate.

It was the end of the year, and everyone was busy buying New Year's goods, so the store was quite busy. Yan Xin breathed a sigh of relief. A few days later, Lin Xiazhu and the others also started their winter vacation and helped out at the store.

Lin Xiazhu also went to the county town to buy a lot of fruit to sell. When she went to the market, she would take Lin Taozi and Xiao An to set up a fruit stall in front of the shop to sell fruit, while Yan Xin and Xiao Gong were in charge of the shop.

Lin Chacha and Lin Xiaoxue also helped out in the store, mainly because there were many people and they wanted to keep an eye on things to prevent anyone from stealing them.

In Shanhe Town, it's a custom to make fried rice cakes during the Lunar New Year. As a result, oil and sugar sell very well at the grocery store, especially white rice cakes, which are bought by the 10 or 20 jin (5 or 10 kg) at a time. Brown sugar is just a little bit added.

The oil and sugar were sold in bulk. People who bought the oil would bring their own bottles. The sugar was in plastic bags, and finally, everything was put into a burlap sack.

"Lin Xiazhu, come in and help out. We're overwhelmed." Yan Xin was sweating profusely and almost going crazy. There were too many people. They had to sell clothes and groceries, and the noise from everyone was so loud. They all squeezed in at once, giving her a headache.

Oh no, she got greedy and sold too much stuff, and now she can't keep up. Lin Xiazhu is sweating profusely with anxiety. Oh well, once these fruits are sold out, she won't order any more.

Lin Chacha has a loud voice and sharp eyes. She can remember the address of anyone who bought something but didn't pay. Just now, she grabbed a woman carrying a snakeskin bag and wouldn't let her leave.

"I just bought a bottle of oil, five jin (2.5 kg), and I haven't paid yet. Hurry up and pay. It's three yuan and twenty cents per jin, sixteen yuan in total. Pay up!" She was furious. She was already incredibly busy, and these people were trying to take advantage of the chaos to get something for nothing. Did they think she was dead?

The woman was also quite fierce. Her eyes were wide open, her sallow face contorted, and she shrieked, "I've already paid! You little brat, don't yell like that. Let go of me, I'm in a hurry to get home."

Think you can win just by being loud and shameless? You're underestimating her.

Lin Chacha snatched the woman's snakeskin bag and held it down with one hand, no matter how hard the woman tried to grab it, she couldn't win.

"I've been watching you the whole time. I'm the one who filled your oil tank, and you haven't paid. I just turned around to weigh some sugar for someone, and you tried to slip away. Pay up now, don't delay my business." Lin Chacha wasn't afraid of her. Whether it was a verbal fight or a physical one, she could crush the other party without backing down.

"I paid, I paid! Big Vat, come help! This little girl is trying to scam me!" the woman shouted, trying to get her husband to come over.

Unfortunately, Lin Xiazhu grabbed the back of his collar as soon as he walked over. Lin Xiazhu had grown taller in the past two years, and by the time she turned twelve, she was already almost 1.6 meters tall. The man was about 1.63 meters tall, but that didn't stop her from doing her job. She could lift him up whenever she wanted.

"Behave yourself, are you trying to cause trouble? Go ahead and lay a hand on me if you dare!" Lin Xiazhu shouted at the top of her lungs.

There was no other way; there were too many people at the market, and if I didn't shout, no one would hear me.

The man's dark face was startled. This little girl lifted him up effortlessly. He struggled several times but couldn't break free. With so many people watching, didn't he have any pride?

In recent years, at the end of the year, he and his wife would take the opportunity to sneak out and make some money. They would buy fake equipment, but then dawdle and not pay quickly. When the sales got busy, they would grab the goods and run away when no one was looking. So they could get all the goods for free.

He had just gotten five pounds of sugar for free from another grocery store and was feeling smug when his idiot wife was caught red-handed.

They had hoped to escape quickly amidst the chaos, but the couple ended up being subdued. They should have checked the almanac before going out today; nothing seemed auspicious.
