With a loud bang, Yan Xin slammed the door shut and ran next door.
Xiao An stared thoughtfully at the door. He had long noticed the strange way Xiao Zhu and Aunt Zhao interacted. They didn't seem like mother and daughter at all. He had never heard Xiao Zhu call Zhao Xiaolian "Mom".
Occasionally, he would hear an unfamiliar name. Xiaozhu called her mother "Yanxin," and her mother's reaction to her was a mixture of respect, timidity, and hatred. This was too strange.
However, no matter how smart Xiao An was, he couldn't have imagined that Yan Xin was a time traveler and Lin Xiazhu was a reborn person like him. Xiao An didn't have much of a concept of the word "rebirth"; he mostly felt that he had been resurrected.
In a decade or so, when the internet is more developed and online novels are everywhere, he will probably understand what time travel and rebirth mean.
Lin Taozi seemed quite used to this situation. Ever since her father died, her mother and older sister had been making a ruckus like this, never letting up. It was all her mother's fault, because her mother's mind had gone haywire after her father's death.
Lin Taozi firmly believes that Zhao Xiaolian is mentally unstable and only her sister Dafa can control her.
She obediently climbed onto the bed and lay down on the inner half of the bed that Lin Xiazhu had left for her. She draped the blanket over her stomach and said to Xiao An in a childish voice, "Brother Xiao An, could you please help me put down the mosquito net?"
The hotel bed was a simple four-poster bed with a mosquito net. Now that it's hot, there are a lot of mosquitoes. Without a mosquito net, the mosquitoes are so noisy at night that it's impossible to sleep, and you'll wake up with a head full of bites the next day.
Xiao An stood in front of their bed, swatted all the mosquitoes inside, and then lowered the mosquito net.
"Xiao An, you should go to sleep early too. Thank you." Lin Xiazhu said softly with her eyes closed.
Xiao An twitched his lips, said nothing, turned around and went back to his bed. He wanted to do something for Xiao Zhu, but he didn't need her thanks, just like she had always helped him but never wanted anything in return.
Whenever Xiaozhu saw that he was unhappy, she would say, "Xiao An, we are a family, and you are a part of our family."
They are a family.
